
Armed Reserve police constable arrested for assault in Madurai
According to police, Lakshmanan, an alcoholic, returned to duty in May after being suspended for assaulting a Sub-Inspector of Police.
On Wednesday, he used abusive language against a woman. When her husband questioned him, the constable attacked him, causing bleeding injuries.
Keeraithurai police arrested him on charges of using abusive language, assault, criminal intimidation, and under the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act.

Wanaparthy police arrest constable-turned-builder on loan fraud charge
A police constable-turned-builder accused of duping his own department's Bharatha scheme and multiple banks to the tune of Rs. 2.61 crore was arrested by the Wanaparthy police on Tuesday. The 37-year-old accused Bandaru Rakesh, who joined back to duty after a long leave of nearly nine years, fabricated documents to secure multiple loans from three houses, Wanaparthy Superintendent of Police Ravula Giridhar said at a press conference. He got selected as Armed Reserve constable in 2007 and got converted his service into Civil a couple of years later. Using the connection while serving as a civil constable, he entered real estate business and created his own venture of houses. He first sold one of the houses in his venture to his aide Sunkari Shekhar. He created fake documents stating that he had purchased the house from Shekhar and availed home loan from police department's Bhadratha scheme. 'Using the same details, he fabricated documents and secured home loans from Indian Overseas Bank, HDFC and LIC,' the SP said. With this modus operandi, he collected Rs. 89 lakh in the form of multiple bank loans. In the same fashion, he availed multiple home loans from different banks. The accused spent most of the money he had earned for his lavish lifestyle and ended up behind the bars, Mr. Giridhar said.

History sheeter sentenced to 10 year-imprisonment in murder case
A Fast Track Court in Chengalpattu has convicted and sentenced a history sheeter to 10-year-imprisonment for murdering a 42-year-old man in Medavakkam in 2012. According to police, on February, 27, 2012, one Kabali, 42, was brutally attacked by Lakshmanan 25 who stabbed him with a broken beer bottle and caused his death, based on the incident, a case was registered at Pallikaranai Police Station. Subsequently it was transferred to Medavakkam Police Station, for monitoring and follow up of trial proceedings. Lakshmanan, 25, of Kovilambakkam who is a history sheeted rowdy was arrested and sent to the judicial custody. At the conclusion of trial, the court on Friday pronounced its judgement convicting and sentencing Lakshmanan to 10-year-imprisonment. He was also imposed a fine of Rs 3000.

File complaints against aggressors to get them imprisoned, SP tells women
Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan has appealed to the women facing harassments, threats, stalking etc. to file complaint with the police stations concerned as the new amendment made in the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act will guard them effectively by awarding imprisonment by the Revenue Divisional Officer. In a statement, Mr. Silambarasan said Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act had been enacted to save the women from harassment, stalking etc. As per the amendment made in Section 7 C of this Act, the Revenue Divisional Officers could proclaim orders to imprison the aggressors for saving the women. As complaints from the victims were received by the Station House Officers of Suththamalli, Seethaparpanallur and Sivanthipatti police stations, RDO, Tirunelveli, has invoked this Act against 3 persons under Suththamalli police station limits, 1 each under Seethaparpanallur and Sivanthipatti police station limits. When this order is in vogue, the aggressors can be awarded three years of imprisonment and slapped with the fine up to ₹1 lakh if they are found to be stalking, threatening, following and disturbing women directly or through electronic devices. Hence, the women, who are facing harassment or getting threats, should file complaints with the police station concerned to get legal protection, Mr. Silambarasan said.
