Barcelona defeats Real Madrid in high-scoring El Clasíco, overcomes Kylian Mbappé's hat trick
Barcelona has ruled the rivalry lately, defeating Real Madrid four times this season starting with a 4-0 La Liga victory in October. Subsequent victories in the Supercopa de España and Copa del Rey further proved Barcelona's dominance this year.
Mbappé struck first with an early penalty kick in the fifth minute after an ill-timed tackle gave him a chance from the spot. He struck again in the 14th minute off an excellent assist from Vinícius Júnior.
Barcelona answered when defender Eric Garcia struck first in the 19th minute, followed by three Barça goals in less than 15 minutes: one from 17-year-old phenom Lamine Yamal in the 32nd minute, and then two from Raphinha after 34 and 45 minutes.

Mbappé came back with another in the 70th minute to bring the score to 4-3, completing his hat trick. But Real Madrid couldn't break through Barcelona's defense, as goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny made multiple key saves to hold the lead.
Barcelona midfielder Fermín Lopez nearly made it 5-3 in stoppage time, but his goal was called back due to a handball in the run-up. Barcelona instead settled for a one-goal victory, and El Clasíco bragging rights for another year.
Barcelona is currently at the top of the La Liga standings with 82 points, while Real Madrid sits in second with 75. With three matches remaining in the regular season, Barcelona needs only one win to secure the La Liga title.

MADRID (AP) — Villarreal is promising travel and tickets for free for season-ticket holders if its Spanish league match against Barcelona is played in Miami in December. The club said Tuesday that those who don't want to go, or can't go, will get a 20% discount on their season tickets. The Spanish soccer federation on Monday approved a request for the match to be played in the United States on Dec. 20. UEFA and FIFA now have to approve the request before it can be made official. 'We would be the first (Spanish) team to play a league match abroad,' Villarreal president Fernando Roig told a news conference. "It would greatly help us expand our brand in a key market like the United States.' Staging a match abroad has long been part of the league's goal to promote soccer and its brand in other countries. It first tried to stage a match in the U.S. in 2018, with a game between Barcelona and Girona, but the idea was dismissed after criticism from players, fans and clubs. Subsequent attempts to play there also failed. The league offered compensation packages for Girona fans when it tried to take its home match against Barcelona to the U.S. in 2018. It wasn't clear whether it would be Villarreal or the league paying for the travel and the tickets for the club's fans this time. The attempts to play in the U.S. are part of the league's long-term partnership with sports and entertainment group Relevent Sports, which is part of Stephen Ross' portfolio of companies including Hard Rock Stadium, the Miami Dolphins, the Formula One's Miami Grand Prix and the Miami Open tennis tournament. The 17th-round match in La Liga would be played at the Hard Rock Stadium. FIFA moved last year toward ending decades of soccer tradition by ordering a review of its policy that blocks domestic league games being played in other countries. Some fan groups in Spain and the country's players association on Monday expressed their disapproval of the plan to move the match thousands of kilometers away. Villarreal fans ‘will fly for free' if Barcelona game in Miami approved
Villarreal president Fernando Roig has claimed supporters will be able to fly to Miami for free or have a 20 per cent discount on their season-ticket if the proposed La Liga game against Barcelona in the United States gets the go ahead. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Monday approved La Liga's request for Villarreal's home game against Barca in December to be played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida and will submit a request to UEFA to initiate the procedures for FIFA to grant authorisation for the fixture change. Advertisement The game is currently scheduled to be played on the weekend of December 20-21 at Villarreal's Estadio de la Ceramica home in eastern Spain. It would be the first time a European top-flight league fixture has taken place in the U.S, although the Spanish Super Cup has been held in Saudi Arabia in the four of the last five seasons. The controversial proposal has sparked fury and raised questions about the league's integrity, with the Spanish football supporters' association, FASFE, joining with Villarreal and Barca fan groups to express their 'absolute, total and firm opposition' to the plans. In a joint statement, they urged the RFEF and the national sports council to 'stop this madness' and warned that they would 'take appropriate legal action' if the Miami game goes ahead. Roig – speaking at a press conference ahead of Villarreal's opening La Liga game at home to Oviedo on Friday – described the proposal as a 'great opportunity' and potential 'milestone', and claimed supporters' travel would be subsidised. 'Coming to the United States is a great opportunity,' he said. 'There has been the Club World Cup and the World Cup will be held (there) next year. 'If it happens, we will be the first European team to play a first division match there. It is a great milestone. Our fans will have some discomfort. But we will make up for it. Those who want to go to Miami will fly free. And those who can't or don't want to, they will have a 20 per cent discount on their season ticket. 'We have to promote Spanish football. And it is very important to take advantage of this opportunity. We have 12 football schools in the United States. We want to create some more in this country. We have been pioneers and we want to continue to be pioneers in international expansion. It is also an important step for our sponsors.' Asked by The Athletic, senior sources at Villarreal did not provide further details of how they might pay for fans' trips.
