Comelec affirms Abante's win in Manila 6th District, junks Joey Uy's MR
In a 12-page decision dated June 30, the Comelec En Banc junked the motion for reconsideration filed by initial poll winner Luis "Joey" Chua Uy against the June 18 resolution that voided his certificate of candidacy.
'The proclamation of Respondent LUIS 'JOEY' CHUA UY is hereby ANNULLED,' the Comelec En Banc said.
'Petitioner BIENVENIDO 'BENNY' MIRANDO ABANTE, JR., the only qualified candidate who garnered the highest number of votes is hereby declared as the duly elected Member of the House of Representatives for the Sixth (6th) District of the City of Manila,' it added.
Abante earlier filed a petition against Chua's win over questions about the latter's Filipino citizenship.
Following the June 18 decision, Uy filed a motion to reverse the ruling of the Comelec Second Division.
In its decision, the Comelec Second Division pointed out that Uy is not a natural-born Filipino citizen but a naturalized Filipino citizen.
'Hence, he is not qualified to run for or hold the position of Member of the House of Representatives. His proclamation as the winning candidate for district representative of the 6th District of the City of Manila was, thus, made in violation of the Constitution,' the Comelec En Banc said, citing the earlier decision. —AOL, GMA Integrated News

The camp of former president Rodrigo Duterte has questioned the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in handling his case, according to Vice President Sara Duterte. The Vice President made the remark during her visit to the Filipino community in Kuwait on Friday. 'Meron po silang finile yung pag-question ng jurisdiction ng korte sa kaso ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte. Simple lang ang sinasabi nila. OVP open to help distressed OFWs — VP Sara
The Office of the Vice President (OVP) is willing to assist distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who choose to return to the Philippines instead of continuing to work abroad, Vice President Sara Duterte said in a statement. Duterte made the remark during her visit last week to the Filipino community in Kuwait. She left the country on Friday. She shared that their helper at home chose to return to the Philippines because her employer did not provide her with meals. 'Huwag ninyong ipagpalit ang inyong pagkatao, ang inyong dignidad bilang isang tao. Kasi yung treatment o pakikitungo na ganyan ay hindi makatao,' the Vice President said during her speech before a group of OFWs. (Do not trade your dignity as a person, because that kind of treatment is inhumane.) 'Bumalik na lang kayo sa Pilipinas, pag-usapan na lang natin sa Office of the Vice President kung saan ba kami makatulong,' she added. Issued on August 14, NAPOLCOM's Resolution 2025-0531 had directed the return of Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez as Deputy Chief for Administration and Lieutenant General Bernard Banac as commander of the Area Police Command (APC) Western Mindanao. They switched positions earlier this month. Despite the resolution, several Police Regional Offices have expressed their support for Torre. ''The men and women of NCRPO express unshakeable support to the Chief, Philippine National Police and all of his legally-issued administrative and operational directives pursuant to the lawful exercise of his mandate as the duly-appointed leader of the country's police force,'' the NCRPO said. ''We firmly recognize that your directives, including necessary command adjustments, are fully aligned with Section 26 of Republic Act No. 6975 (The DILG Act of 1990). These actions are not only lawful but essential in ensuring an efficient, disciplined, and mission-ready police force,'' the Police Regional Office CAR added.
