PM Anwar meets BN MPs to discuss policies and current issues
He said such meetings are held regularly as BN is a component of the Unity Government.
'As part of the Unity Government, BN frequently holds discussions, including regular sessions with top leaders not only from BN but also from other coalition partners.
'These meetings allow for the exchange of views and for the Prime Minister to provide updates on government policies and related matters,' said the Higher Education Minister after officiating the Jeli Umno Division Delegates Meeting in Bukit Nangka here today.
The Prime Minister held the meeting with BN MPs at his official residence in Seri Perdana, Putrajaya, yesterday.
The session, which lasted over an hour, is believed to have also addressed preparations for the upcoming Parliamentary sitting.
In his speech at the division meeting, Zambry, who is also a Umno Supreme Council member, urged party members in Kelantan to continue strengthening their resolve and confidence in advancing the party's mission in the state.
'The spirit of relentless struggle must be upheld by all Umno members in Kelantan, as demonstrated during the Nenggiri by-election last year, which BN won.
'Our machinery was mobilised and we went to the ground — few expected us to win, but we succeeded through unity and determination,' he said. - Bernama

National Education Council Expected To Hold First Conference In Fourth Quarter
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The National Education Council (MPN) which will be established this year, is expected to hold its first conference in the fourth quarter of this year to continue the education reform agenda. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the establishment of MPN, which is outlined under the new direction of the Malaysian Higher Education Policy 2025-2030, will serve as the highest committee at the national level and will be chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. 'MPN aims to coordinate the country's education policy comprehensively across various levels, namely early childhood education, higher education and lifelong education, in other words, it involves two main ministries, namely the Ministry of Education (KPM) and the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT). 'In this regard, we expect the relevant ministries to prepare a memorandum for the Cabinet and we will present it and finally convene for the first time in the fourth quarter of this year,' he said during the winding-up session of the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) motion for KPT at Dewan Rakyat today. He said MPN would also be comprised of various ministries, including the Ministry of Human Resources, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, in addition to also involving representatives from non-governmental organisations, communities and experts from within and outside the country, given that issues related to education involve the entire ecosystem. 'I also discussed for consideration the Special Select Committee on Nation-Building, Education and Human Resources Development chaired by (MP) Indera Mahkota in the MPN because this council needs to cross-party for the sake of the interests and future well-being of our country,' he said. In another development, Zambry assured that excellent students with disabilities (OKU) who were allegedly denied the right to apply for admission to public universities (UA) will still be offered places at public higher education institutions (IPTA). He said that although the university stated that there were no OKU-friendly facilities as a reason for rejection, the students involved obtained excellent 4A results and are eligible to continue their studies. 'We need to change university policies which must be more inclusive of OKU. Therefore, the application involving this 4A disabled student, God willing, he will get his place later,' he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: The country's financial management must be carried out prudently and with discipline, in line with the spirit of the Public Finance and Fiscal Responsibility Act 2023 (FRA), said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He stressed on this while chairing the Fiscal Policy Committee (FPC) meeting, which is an important platform for drafting clear fiscal policies and setting the direction of the country's economy. He said the MADANI Government needs to continue to find a balance between efforts to maintain the momentum of economic growth and ensuring the country's fiscal position remains sustainable, especially in the volatile global economic environment. "Although the world is still grappling with uncertainty, the national economy remains strong with a growth rate of 4.4 per cent for the first half of 2025. "The unemployment rate has also dropped to three per cent, the lowest in 10 years," the prime minister said in a post on his Facebook page. He added that the government has successfully reduced the fiscal deficit from 5.5 per cent in 2022 to 4.1 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2024, an achievement that demonstrates its commitment to responsible fiscal management. Meanwhile, in a separate statement following the FPC meeting today, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) said as the MADANI Government embarks on the 13th Malaysia Plan, fiscal space must be optimised to deliver public investments that materially transform the economy (Raise the Ceiling) and improve the rakyat's quality of life (Raise the Floor). In 2025, Malaysia's economy is expected to grow between 4.0 per cent and 4.8 per cent, underpinned by strong domestic demand, moderate inflation and a stable labour market. "The FPC meeting today reaffirmed the government's commitment to reducing the 3.8 per cent fiscal deficit target for 2025 and subsequently achieving a deficit of three per cent or below in the medium term, in line with the FRA commitment,' said Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister. The session also serves as an important step in setting the government's fiscal trajectory ahead of the forthcoming Budget 2026, scheduled to be tabled on Oct 10, 2025. Pursuant to the provisions of the FRA, the MoF said the MADANI Government is undertaking the Medium-Term Revenue Strategy (MTRS) to broaden the revenue base and establish a more progressive tax system, while strengthening compliance with international best practices. "Moving forward, priority will be placed on addressing leakages and enhancing efficiency through measures such as the phased implementation of the e-invoicing system. "These efforts underscore the government's resolve to build a fairer, more resilient and sustainable fiscal framework that supports long-term economic growth and the well-being of the people,' said the ministry. - Bernama
