Coolie India Box Office Collection Day 3: Rajinikanth's gangster action drama sees 30% drop on Janmashtami holiday
Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial gangster action drama is dominating the India box since its release on August 14 on the occasion of Independence Day. The Tamil superstar Rajinikanth starrer emerged as the seventh biggest Indian opener at the worldwide box office. After registering record breaking opening for a Tamil film, the Kollywood movie crossed ₹ 300 crore mark worldwide within three days. The action thriller recorded 29.50 percent fall in earnings on Janmashtami holiday, August 16. Despite clash with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR starrer Bollywood film War 2, the highly awaited movie collected ₹ 38.6 crore net at the domestic box office. During its 3 -day run in theatres, the movie raked in ₹ 158.35 crore net in India, according to film industry tracker Sacnilk. The Tamil cinema is making long strides with the film produced by Kalanithi Maran under the banner Sun Pictures. The revenue flow of the action thriller is dominated mainly by Tamil shows, followed by Telugu and Hindi screenings. Available in multiple languages with massive Pan India appeal, the movie is on track to set new records. Film trade analyst Sumit Kadel in a post on X stated, '#Coolie shatters records with ₹ 300 Cr+ Gross in just 3 Days - emerges as the FASTEST TAMIL FILM ever to breach this mark !! 3-Day WW Estimate: ₹ 320–325 Cr The film is a MASSIVE HIT and firmly on course to attain BLOCKBUSTER status.'

War 2 Box Office Collection Day 3: Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's much-awaited War 2 had a shaky start but has since gained pace at the box office. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, and part of YRF's larger spy universe, the film opened strong on Day 1 with ₹52 crore on Thursday, August 14, just ahead of the Independence Day weekend. But the clash with Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna's Coolie, which stormed past ₹300 crore in only three days, made the battle tougher. For War 2, Day 2 saw a boost from the holiday, bringing in ₹57.35 crore, but Day 3 trends show the numbers dipping once again. On Day 3 (Saturday), the movie managed to pull in just ₹33 crore (all languages), which took the three-day India total to ₹142.35 crore net. (This is an early estimate for Saturday, and by the end of the day, it would have already crossed the ₹150 crore mark.) Despite the drop, the film has already gone past the lifetime earnings of Salman Khan's Sikandar (₹110 crore in India). The worldwide earnings of the movie on day 2 stood at 38 cr Net. Globally, the film has crossed ₹200 crore gross by Saturday, though overseas numbers are decent rather than record-breaking. War 2 clocked an overall Hindi occupancy of 31.42% on Saturday, August 16, 2025, weaker than Day 2. Tamil: 49% average on Day 3, Telugu: 42% average on Day 3. Sacnilk reported stronger occupancies in Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru, while northern cities like Delhi and Mumbai lagged. The film features Kiara Advani in the lead, Ashutosh Rana in supporting parts, and Anil Kapoor in a key role. Despite falling short of YRF spy universe benchmarks set by SRK's Pathaan and Salman's Tiger, War 2 is still faring better than many recent Bollywood flops. On Saturday, Hrithik and Jr NTR thanked fans on social media. Hrithik said watching celebrations in theatres made his heart 'fuller,' while Jr NTR called the audience's love 'incredible.' War 2's big competition is Rajinikanth's Coolie, which was released in the same window. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie is celebrating 50 years of Rajinikanth in cinema. Along with Rajinikanth, the film features Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, and cameos from Aamir Khan and Pooja Hegde. Coolie has already taken the lead in the box office clash. By Day 3, it earned ₹158.25 crore in India and ₹320-325 crore worldwide, compared to War 2's ₹142.35 crore in India. On Saturday, Coolie collected ₹38.50 crore, a much bigger number compared to War 2's ₹33 crore.
