50-yr-old threatens to blow up CMO, arrested

Time of India5 days ago
Jaipur: City police Monday arrested a 50-year-old man from Jhunjhunu barely an hour after he rang up the police control room, warning of a bomb inside the chief minister's office (CMO) in Jaipur.
DCP (south) Rajarshi Raj Varma said the caller, identified as Sanwar Mal Saini, made the threat around 12:30pm. By 1:30pm, cyber teams traced his location to Jhunjhunu, and the local police were alerted to detain him. "We coordinated with Jhunjhunu police for a swift operation. He was rounded up without resistance," Varma said.
The caller claimed to be a well-wisher of chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and alleged that a bomb had been planted inside the CMO.
Immediately after the call, senior officials were informed, and multiple agencies, including bomb disposal units, were dispatched to the CMO for an extensive search. The premises were combed for explosives or suspicious objects, but nothing was found. While the motive remains unclear, Varma said preliminary inputs from locals suggest Saini is a habitual drinker prone to mischief when intoxicated. He is also suspected to be addicted to drugs.

Police suspect the threat may have been a drunken prank but are not ruling out other possibilities.
The latest threat comes just weeks after a similar scare on July 26, when an email warned of explosives at both the CMO and Jaipur airport. That alert, too, turned out to be false after thorough checks. Officials said repeated hoax threats not only waste resources but also stretch security forces and disrupt routine functioning.
In Monday's case, the control room relayed the threat to all police wings, triggering a coordinated response. "Every such call is treated as credible until proven otherwise. The priority is to neutralise any potential risk," an official said.
Saini is being brought to Jaipur for questioning. Police are examining whether he acted alone, under influence, or at someone's behest. Officials also plan to check his call records and past activities.
Police warned that issuing hoax threats to critical govt installations is a serious offence that invites strict legal action under multiple BNS sections.

Rajasthan Police arrests suspects for plotting I-Day attack in Delhi, linked to Lawrence Bishnoi gang

The Rajasthan Police announced the arrest of three persons allegedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, along with detaining three minors for allegedly planning to carry out terror strikes in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior on Independence Day. The arrested persons have been identified as Jitendra Chaudhary, a native of Tonk, Sanjay, a native of Hanumangarh district, and Sonu alias Kali, from Kapurthala, Punjab.(AI Generated/ Representative) The arrested persons have been identified as Jitendra Chaudhary, a native of Tonk, Sanjay, a native of Hanumangarh district, and Sonu alias Kali, from Kapurthala, Punjab. According to the additional crime branch director general of police (ADGP) Dinesh MN, quoted in an Indian Express report, the three accused were arrested from Jaipur and Tonk districts last week and handed over to the Punjab Police's Amritsar Special Operation Cell. The accused were wanted in connection with a July 7 blast in Nawanshahr, Punjab. He also said that three minors were also detained during the operation. The ADGP informed that the three had thrown a grenade in front of a liquor shop in Punjab's Nawanshahr and fled to Rajasthan. The motive behind the grenade attack was to spread terror and extort money. A case was filed under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) sections 49 (abetment outside India for offence in India), 55 (abetment of offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life), 61 (2) (Criminal conspiracy), as well as sections of the Arms Act by the Punjab police. Following the Nawanshahr blast, a team led by the additional superintendent of police (ASP), Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Siddhant Sharma, went to Jaipur Range and Ajmer Range. 'The team concealed its identity and, without caring for their lives, worked hard to collect intelligence about the wanted and arrested them on August 10,' the ADG told the media. The connection to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang The accused were interrogated upon their arrest, and the police uncovered their alleged ties to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. According to the police, their handler is Zeeshan Akhtar, the alleged mastermind of the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui in Mumbai. Zeeshan reportedly lives in Canada and was connected to the three accused through social media. ADGP Dinesh MN also said that Zeeshan Akhtar, Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti, Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist Manu Agwan and Gopi Nawanshahria are all allegedly connected with each other. 'They carry out criminal activities in different parts of the country and contact local youth by luring them with money to commit the crime. The accused in the present case are connected with Zeeshan Akhtar through Instagram and other online apps. Zeeshan Akhtar had also provided grenades to the accused for the Nawanshahr blast. He used to give instructions to them through online applications. He had also instructed them to carry out blasts in Delhi and Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, on Independence Day, August 15,' the ADG said. Mumbai police had said in June that Zeeshan Akhtar had been detained in Canada. However, there has been little clarity on the case or Akhtar's whereabouts since then.

Protests erupt after youth blames cops in suicide note in Anakapalli

Visakhapatnam: The suicide of a youngster, who was allegedly harassed and tortured by police, has sparked a protest in front of Butchayyapeta police station in Anakapalli district. The deceased was identified as M Krishnamurthy (23), a resident of Aithampudi village at Butchayyapeta mandal in Anakapalle district. In his letter, he claimed that he was wrongfully arrested in connection with a theft that occurred on May 28, 2025. Although the actual culprit, Reddy Shivakumar, was arrested, he along with his friend Shiva allegedly conspired with the police to falsely implicate him in the case. He also mentioned that he was tortured with candle burns and beaten up severely and robbed of his money during the interrogation in the case. While he was availing treatment at KG Hospital in Vizag city, Krishnamurthy wrote this letter but no action was taken by the authorities. After being released on bail from prison on Aug 4, Krishnamurthy confronted Shivakumar and Shiva, questioning why he and his family were dragged into a criminal case despite being innocent. Enraged by this confrontation, Shivakumar and Shiva allegedly used their influence to summon Krishnamurthy back to the police station through constable Ganesh and head constable Arjun. The officers reportedly threatened to frame him in another case, he mentioned. Deeply distressed by the continued harassment, Krishnamurthy died by suicide. He mentioned that Shivakumar, Shiva, constable Ganesh and head constable Arjun were responsible for his suicide. The youngster's death triggered protests in his village, with family members and friends demanding that murder charges be filed against the accused. However, the police claimed that the issue has been resolved by the villagers. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
