Novitec enhances Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale with exhaust and chassis upgrades
German performance specialist Novitec has introduced an upgraded exhaust system for the Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale, designed to boost the supercar's output and sharpen its driving dynamics.
Available in stainless steel or lightweight Inconel — a high-performance alloy used in Formula 1 — the system adds 22kW to the 4.0l twin-turbocharged V8 engine. Combined with the SF90's three electric motors, this increases the total system output to about 780kW.
In addition to the exhaust upgrade, Novitec is offering a range of bespoke wheels developed in partnership with US-based wheel manufacturer Vossen. Buyers can choose from three designs and a wide selection of finishes. The 20-inch front wheels are paired with 255/35 tyres, while the 21-inch rears wear wider 325/25 rubber for improved traction and stance.
To complement these enhancements, Novitec also offers sport springs that lower the car by about 25mm at both axles. This modification not only sharpens the vehicle's appearance but also lowers the centre of gravity, potentially improving handling.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance Coupé is now officially available in South Africa. Recently seen flexing its muscle at the 2025 Simola Hillclimb in Knysna — where it claimed class honours in the road and supercar category — this German bahn-stormer is driven by a 4.0l twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine producing 450kW and 850Nm, paired with a 150kW/320Nm electric motor. Adding more clever tech into the mix is the AMG Dynamic Select system, offering eight driving modes: Electric, Battery Hold, Comfort, Slippery, Sport, Sport+, Race and Individual. These can be selected via the AMG button and central display on the centre console or through the AMG steering wheel controls. Each mode tweaks the behaviour of the powertrain, gearbox, steering, damping, and exhaust note. Drivers can also toggle between four levels of energy recuperation — one of which allows for near 'one-pedal' driving. Other performance-focused features include active aerodynamic aids, such as a deployable rear spoiler and a concealed underbody flap that improve downforce at speed. AMG Active Ride Control with semiactive roll stabilisation and rear-axle steering further boost agility and stability across various driving conditions. Braking duties are handled by a ceramic high-performance composite system: six-piston fixed calipers and 420mm rotors up front, and single-piston floating calipers with 380mm discs at the rear. Wrapping these are 20" AMG 10-spoke alloy wheels fitted with high-performance tyres (295/35 front and 305/35 rear), with forged 21" wheels available as an option. Inside, the GT 63 S E Performance is as luxurious as it is potent. Standard features include a fully digital instrument cluster, an 11.9" portrait-orientated touchscreen running the latest MBUX infotainment system, and exclusive AMG Performance and Track Pace apps for telemetry and lap-time logging. Occupants are treated to Nappa leather sports seats, carbon-fibre interior trim, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an ergonomic AMG Performance multifunction steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, and active steering and lane-keeping assist. The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance Coupé is priced from R4,369,287, which includes a standard five-year/100,000km service and maintenance plan.

China's rare earth export curbs hit Europe's car industry
BMW has deployed a magnet-free electric motor for its latest generation of electric cars, but still requires rare earths for smaller motors powering components such as windshield wipers or car window rollers. German carmaker Volkswagen said it is not seeing any shortages now. China's slow pace of easing its critical mineral export controls has become a focus of Trump's criticism of Beijing, which he says has violated the truce reached last month to roll back tariffs and trade restrictions. Trump has sought to redefine the US' trading relationship with its biggest economic rival by imposing steep tariffs on billions of dollars of imported goods in hopes of narrowing a trade deficit and bringing back lost manufacturing. Trump imposed tariffs of 145% against China only to scale them back after a sell-off in stock, bond and currency markets over the sweeping nature of the levies. China has responded with its own tariffs and is leveraging its dominance in key supply chains to persuade Trump to back down. Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to talk this week to try to iron out their differences and the export curbs are expected to be high on the agenda. In a social media post on Wednesday, Trump said Xi is 'VERY TOUGH, AND EXTREMELY HARD TO MAKE A DEAL WITH', highlighting the fragility of the deal.

DRC among five countries elected to UN Security Council
The UN General Assembly on Tuesday elected Bahrain, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Latvia and Liberia to the 15-member UN Security Council for two-year terms starting on January 1 2026. The Security Council is the only UN body that can make legally binding decisions such as imposing sanctions and authorising use of force. It has five permanent veto-wielding members: Britain, China, France, Russia and the US. The remaining 10 members are elected, with five new members joining every year. Bahrain, Colombia, the DRC, Latvia and Liberia — who were all elected in uncontested slates — will replace Algeria, Sierra Leone, South Korea, Guyana and Slovenia. To ensure geographical representation, seats are allocated to regional groups. But even if candidates are running unopposed in their group, they still need to win the support of more than two-thirds of the General Assembly. Bahrain received 186 votes, the DRC 183 votes, Liberia 181 votes, Colombia 180 votes and Latvia 178 votes. The General Assembly on Monday elected former German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock as president of the 193-member body for its 80th session, which begins in September.
