OTTAWA, ON, June 9, 2025 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Rechie Valdez, Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Secretary of State (Small Business and Tourism), made the following statement to mark Pride Season 2025:
"Pride Season is a time to celebrate the strength, diversity, and resilience of 2SLGBTQI+ communities in Canada and around the world. It is also a reminder that, as hate speech and discrimination continue, the fight for equality, safety, and human rights is far from over.
When Canada supports 2SLGBTQI+ communities through inclusive policies and opportunities, everyone benefits. More people are empowered to fully participate in the workforce, become business owners, drive innovation and contribute to thriving communities. The result is a stronger, more competitive country – where poverty is reduced, health outcomes improve, and no one is left behind.
The Government of Canada is removing barriers still faced by 2SLGBTQI+ communities — from safe access to gender-affirming care to opportunities in entrepreneurship and skilled trades. Through the Federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan and Canada's Action Plan on Combatting Hate, we're funding solutions that improve safety, support mental health, and strengthen community resilience.
That includes a $25 million federal investment in Canada's first-ever 2SLGBTQI+ Entrepreneurship Program — launched in partnership with the Canadian 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce.
Pride is both a celebration and a call to action – and the Government will continue to stand with 2SLGBTQI+ communities to build a safer, more inclusive, and more equitable Canada for all.

Mayfair Provides Details on Open Pit Design Consideration and Confidence Drill Program to Support Preparation of Fenn-Gib Pre-Feasibility Study
Targeting near surface high-grade mineralization to support open pit mining operation Reverse circulation drill program planned to improve confidence in the zone targeted for early years of operations at Fenn-Gib VANCOUVER, BC, June 9, 2025 /CNW/ - Mayfair Gold Corp. ("Mayfair", "Mayfair Gold" or the "Company") (TSXV: MFG) (OTCQX: MFGCF) is pleased to provide an update on the conceptual pit designs being progressed to advance the Pre-Feasibility Study ("PFS") for the Fenn-Gib Gold Project in Ontario ("Fenn-Gib" or the "Project"). The PFS work is focused on advancing Fenn-Gib based on an open pit mining operation targeting a high-grade starter zone of mineralization. The Company's updated mineral resource estimate for the Fenn-Gib Project was released with an effective date of September 3, 2024 and originally presented in a news release dated September 10, 2024. At a 0.30 g/t gold cutoff, there is a total Indicated Mineral Resource estimate of 181.3 million tonnes at a grade of 0.74 g/t gold containing 4.3 million ounces of gold and an Inferred Mineral Resource estimate of 8.92 million tonnes at a grade of 0.49 g/t gold containing 0.14 million ounces of gold. The mineral resource estimate ("MRE") will be the basis for the PFS which is currently in progress and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. For the PFS, the Company is targeting a mine design focused on the high-grade mineralization in the upper elevations of the open pit MRE to maximize the feed grade to the proposed processing plant. It is anticipated that the design will include a conventional drill and blast, with truck and shovel open pit mining operation supplying the plant. By applying a strategy that emphasizes an elevated cut-off grade targeting the high-grade near surface mineralization within the MRE, the result will maximize the value of the Fenn-Gib asset in the short-term while maintaining the integrity of the overall resource. Figure 1 shows the possible pit outline of a design using 0.8g/t COG and targeting a high-grade pit. The quantity and grade of reported Inferred Resources are uncertain in nature and there has not been sufficient work to define these Inferred Resources as Indicated or Measured Resources. It is reasonably expected that many of the Inferred Mineral Resources could be upgraded to Indicated Mineral Resources with continued exploration. 7. Reverse Circulation Drilling Program to Commence in Summer 2025 To provide additional data and improve confidence in the near surface high-grade zone of mineralization targeted in the early years of the proposed mine plan, Mayfair plans to complete a 20,000-metre reverse circulation ("RC") drill program at Fenn-Gib. The RC drilling program is to be completed in two stages. The first stage of the RC drill program is planned to begin in the summer of 2025, utilizing the existing onsite road network to partially test the near surface high grade zone. The second stage of the RC drill program will begin after the 2025 winter freeze-up, when ground conditions improve to allow Mayfair to more effectively complete the remaining RC drill program. This program will also advance additional diamond drilling with open pit geotechnical holes for improved clarity on pit wall designs needed for future operations. Nick Campbell, President and CEO of Mayfair Gold, stated, "Many open pit gold deposits have better grade deeper in the deposit. We believe Fenn-Gib is unique in that some of the highest grade mineralization occurs near surface. This allows for the potential to start operations at Fenn-Gib with a smaller, targeted, mining operation, focused on the near-surface, high-grade gold mineralization. Rather than targeting a larger scale operation, we think this approach allows Mayfair to focus operations on higher margin material at the start of operations, it mitigates construction execution risk, reduces initial capital requirements and provides a clear Ontario Provincial permitting path. With a current Canadian gold price in excess of C$4,600/oz, Mayfair is excited about the opportunity to advance Fenn-Gib into a new gold producer within the current gold cycle. The PFS is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. A nimble, smaller, targeted, high-grade operation should provide a path forward for the company to consider a production decision within the next three years. Advancing Fenn-Gib to production and cash flow should help fund potential future growth opportunities, including the potential to permit and develop a larger operation at Fenn-Gib that optimizes the full MRE." Bishop Budde hopes Pride Month can be ‘antidote' to ‘unnecessarily hurtful' rhetoric
Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde, who asked that President Trump 'have mercy' on LGBTQ children and immigrants during a prayer service he attended in January, says she hopes Pride Month celebrations this year help LGBTQ people heal from months of amped-up speech and policies targeting their identities. 'I pray that it is a really joyful, inspiring gathering where people feel safe, where they feel seen, where they feel supported, where they can laugh and learn,' Budde said about Pride in an interview with USA Today published Monday. 'Maybe it is a good antidote to some of the meaner rhetoric that has been unnecessarily hurtful. And just be a balm for people. We all need that.' Budde, the Episcopal leader for the Washington area, made national headlines when she used a prayer service following Trump's inauguration to make a direct plea to the president — who sat in the first pew of the National Cathedral with first lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance and second lady Usha Vance — on behalf of 'people in our country who are scared now.' 'There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican and independent families, some who fear for their lives,' Budde said during the service. She said most immigrants, even those without proper documentation, were good neighbors, and the vast majority are 'not criminals.' She told ABC's 'The View' in the days following her sermon that she would welcome a one-on-one conversation with Trump but would not apologize, as he demanded in a lengthy post on Truth Social. 'I am not going to apologize for asking for mercy for others,' Budde said. Since returning to office in January, Trump has signed several executive orders directly targeting transgender Americans, including one he issued on his first day declaring that the U.S. recognizes only two unchangeable sexes, male and female, and prohibiting spending on 'gender ideology.' Other orders aim to bar transgender people from serving openly in the military, end federal support for gender-affirming care for minors and ban transgender girls from participating in girls' and women's sports. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said last week that Trump has 'no plans' to issue a proclamation recognizing Pride Month this year. Budde told USA Today that Pride and its message of community and acceptance carries an 'urgency' with it this year. 'It feels as if there are some values, some accomplishments, some strides that are being called into question, and a fairly aggressive effort on the part of many to take away some of the things that have been so hard fought for,' she said. 'It's both a time of celebration and a reminder that this is who we are, and these are our beloved and this is who we stand with.' 'There seems to be a lot to be gained by keeping us divided and to project really false statements onto whole groups of people. That has not stopped, which is just worrisome and a bit heartbreaking,' Budde said. 'This is not, for me, a partisan thing. But I do want to constantly stand for and remind people of the values that are bedrock to me as a person of faith, but also to our country and to emphasize that we have far more in common with one another than we differ.'

Nissan, Walmart dial back Stonewall Columbus sponsorships for Pride 2025
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WMCH) — Stonewall Columbus said a few corporations that previously backed the Pride march and festival are cutting off support this year amid efforts to roll back diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Densil Porteous, executive director of Stonewall Columbus, said the organization has seen a reduction in corporate sponsorships totaling about $150,000 for this year's Pride celebrations. Notably, companies such as Lowe's, Walmart, Nissan, and Anheuser-Busch, which supported Stonewall's events in 2024, are not participating this year. Out in Ohio: Stonewall Columbus gets ready for Pride 2025 'This trend aligns with a broader national pattern where corporations are reevaluating their diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments amid political pressures and economic uncertainties,' Porteous said. Lowe's, Walmart, and Anheuser-Busch didn't respond to NBC4's request for comment. Nissan said in a statement it's 'currently reviewing all marketing and sales spending — including select consumer auto shows, sports properties and other entertainment activations — to maximize both efficiency and breakthrough effectiveness.' Despite these setbacks, Porteous said, 'The support from our community and remaining partners has been heartening.' Anticipating some shifts in economic support, Porteous said the organization worked to secure a $276,000 grant from the Franklin County Board of Commissioners to offset the shortfall. List: 2025 Pride Month events, festivals in central Ohio Porteous noted many local businesses and organizations continue to stand with Stonewall, as the organization has raised additional support from the community totaling about $34,000. The organization's Pride events remain scheduled as planned, with the march taking place at 10:30 a.m. on June 14. 'We anticipate a vibrant turnout, celebrating under this year's theme, 'United in Power,'' Porteous said. Stonewall is losing some corporate backing as several other central Ohio Pride festivals have also had their sponsors dial back. The Union County Rainbow Coalition, host of Marysville's Pride Fest, said it has encountered funding challenges as the coalition has spoken out against anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric. That advocacy has yielded a drop in support from some local companies, organizers Christian Downey-Thompson and Betty Elswick said. The Rainbow Coalition has forged ahead with the Marysville Pride Fest, taking place June 14 from 3 to 9 p.m. in Partners Park, in part because of several Marysville families who stepped up to replace those local businesses with even larger donations. The coalition was also the recipient of prize money from Folx Health, an online healthcare provider for LGBTQ+ people. Locals paint rainbow fence at German Village bar that had Pride flags stolen The Westerville Queer Collective, the group behind Westerville's Pride Festival, said this June's festival has about the same number of sponsors as last year, even though the collective has needed 'to do a little bit of extra campaigning' in the wake of President Donald Trump's reelection and anti-LGBTQ+ proposals at the Ohio Statehouse. Delaware Ohio Pride, the organizers behind the city of Delaware's Pride festival, told NBC4 in March that some local entrepreneurs who previously backed the organization have cut off support and no longer offer their businesses as event space since Trump's reelection.
