President Sisi heads to Equatorial Guinea
Spokesman for the Presidency Mohamed al-Shennawy said that president Sisi is participating in the coordination meeting, which is usually limited to a few African leaders.
This participation comes in light of Egypt's chairmanship of the North African Regional Capability and its leadership of the Steering Committee of Heads of State and Government of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD).
During the summit, the president will review Egypt's efforts to develop the work of the two mechanisms, which will strengthen peace, security, and their connection to development and stability goals in the African continent.
President Sisi is expected to meet with a number of fellow African leaders to discuss the challenges facing the African continent and explore ways to bolster continental stability to fulfill the aspirations of African peoples for prosperity and development. (MENA)

El-Sisi reviews key AOI projects in civilian and defence industries
President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on Monday followed up on the progress of implementing key activities and projects at factories and companies affiliated with the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) in the fields of civil and defence industries. In a meeting with the Chairman of the Board of AOI Major General Mokhtar Abdel-Latif, El-Sisi was briefed on AOI's strategic framework focusing on enhancing local manufacturing, localizing modern technology, and partnering with leading local, Arab, and global companies to transfer expertise and develop national industries, thereby strengthening Egypt's position as a leading regional industrial power. Presidential spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy stated that this strategy is pursued through several principal axes, including modernizing production lines in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution to enhance manufacturing and technological capacities. It also includes qualifying and training human resources to keep pace with rapid technological changes, ensuring high standards of quality and efficiency, and supporting technical research in collaboration with research institutions. The strategy also focuses on deepening military industries manufacturing to meet the demands of the armed forces and export markets. It introduces new industries to cater to the needs and demands of both local and foreign markets. The official spokesperson noted that the meeting reviewed the developments in the civil industries undertaken by the organization, including transportation means, electronics, manufacturing of telecommunications towers and high-voltage electricity towers, design and manufacture of water pumps and sewage systems, water and sewage treatment plants, manufacturing of pipes for water, sewage, and natural gas, clean energy, wood industries, and medical industries. In this context, Abdel Latif mentioned that starting this year, in cooperation with the global Stellantis Group, production of the Citroën C4X car has begun on the production lines of the Arab American Vehicles (AAV) company, targeting an annual production rate of 7,000 vehicles and a total of 28,000 cars over four years. He added that the organization has also begun production of the new Jeep Cherokee, starting in September 2024, at an annual rate of 1,500 cars, and the Toyota Fortuner 4x4, at an annual rate of 1,200 vehicles. He explained that the organization is working on expanding local manufacturing of transportation means and, in the field of electronics, aims to add new production lines for laptops, tablets, mobile phones, prepaid electricity meters, and routers. The spokesperson also said that the Chairman reviewed the organization's efforts in the field of clean energy, particularly in producing solar panels using the latest technologies, including a project to establish a solar power plant connected to the government grid in Uganda, as part of the Egyptian initiative for Nile Basin countries. The Chairman also reviewed the most important new civil projects the organization is implementing, as well as the development of e-marketing tools and mechanisms within the organization in cooperation with specialized entities to promote products and services and expand the customer base through innovative digital platforms that align with market trends locally, regionally, and the requirements of digital transformation. He also reviewed the efforts made by the organization to qualify human resources through the Arab Institute for Advanced Technology, the AOI Academy for Engineering Training, the Helwan Academy for Technical Education, the Technical Secondary School for Dual Education and Training, and the Welding Academy in Helwan in cooperation with the International Institute of Welding in Italy. The spokesperson added that the President commended the organization's efforts in various fields. El-Sisi stressed the need to continue its endeavours aimed at increasing production and reducing prices to achieve competitiveness, deepen local manufacturing, localise advanced technology, and develop local supply chains to ensure the production of components with global quality and reduce reliance on imports, especially in vital sectors. The President also emphasized the importance of continuing ongoing coordination and fruitful, constructive integration between ministries, the private sector, and various Egyptian industrial bodies to achieve industrial harmony and optimize the exploitation of national manufacturing capabilities. Egypt's FM seeks deeper economic, security ties on five-nation West Africa tour
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty began a five-nation tour of West Africa on Monday, leading a high-level business delegation in a push to bolster economic ties and deepen security cooperation across a region facing significant challenges. The tour, which will also include stops in Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, and Senegal, kicked off in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, where Abdel-Aty held a series of meetings with top Nigerian officials and the regional ECOWAS bloc, the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement. Abdelatty is accompanied by a delegation of 30 heads and representatives of major Egyptian companies, signaling a strong focus on leveraging trade and investment to reinforce diplomatic partnerships. During bilateral talks with his Nigerian counterpart, Yusuf Tuggar, Abdel-Aty stressed the growing momentum in relations, particularly since the first-ever ministerial-level political consultation was held in Cairo in January 2025. The two ministers discussed enhancing cooperation in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, energy, mining, construction, and information technology. Abdel-Aty said the business forum held during the visit was an ideal platform to deepen private sector partnerships and explore joint investment opportunities. In a significant diplomatic development during the forum, Nigeria's Foreign Minister Tuggar officially announced his country's support for the Egyptian candidate for UNESCO Director-General, Khaled El-Enany, ahead of elections in October. The Egyptian candidate, who was present at the meetings, also attended the bilateral talks where Abdel-Aty thanked Nigeria for its support of the candidacy within the African Union. In a separate meeting in Abuja, Abdelatty met with Abdel-Fatau Musah, the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The Egyptian foreign minister offered to expand cooperation with the regional bloc to combat rising terrorism and extremism in the Sahel and West Africa. He said Egypt was ready to share its expertise through training and technical support for the regional counter-terrorism force. 'Egypt will not hesitate to provide all necessary support and assistance to the countries of the region in their efforts to combat terrorism and extremist thought,' Abdelatty said, highlighting the role of Egyptian institutions like the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution and Al-Azhar in promoting moderation. The discussions also covered Egypt's ongoing capacity-building support for Nigeria through the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development (EAPD). The agency has so far trained 571 Nigerian personnel in 260 courses across various fields, a number Abdel-Aty said reflects Egypt's commitment to aligning its support with Nigeria's priorities. For his part, the Nigerian minister praised Egypt's active role on the African continent, particularly in reconstruction, sustainable development, and counter-terrorism. He expressed Nigeria's interest in benefiting from Egyptian expertise in infrastructure, technical education, healthcare, and modern agriculture. Before starting his West Africa tour, Abdelatty made a stop in N'Djamena on Monday, where he met with Chadian Foreign Minister Abdallah Saber Fadoul. During that meeting, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's support for development projects in Chad, particularly in infrastructure, energy, and health. He highlighted that a land road project to link the two countries and boost trade was a high priority.

Al-Sisi reviews progress on local manufacturing, urges deeper self-sufficiency
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met on Monday with Lieutenant General Mokhtar Abdel Latif, Chairperson of the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI), to review the progress of strategic civil and defence industry projects designed to strengthen domestic manufacturing and localize advanced technologies, according to a presidential statement. Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy said the meeting highlighted AOI's initiatives across multiple sectors, including transport, clean energy, medical supplies, and wood products, as well as its ongoing efforts to expand military production for the armed forces and boost exports. Abdel Latif outlined the AOI's strategic vision, which focuses on industrial modernisation, developing skilled human capital, advancing scientific research, and forging partnerships with major local, regional, and international companies to reinforce Egypt's position as a regional manufacturing hub. The AOI chief also announced that production has begun on the Citroën C4X in cooperation with global automotive group Stellantis, with an annual target of 7,000 vehicles and a cumulative goal of 28,000 over four years. Production of the new Jeep Cherokee is scheduled to start in September 2024, alongside the Toyota Fortuner SUV at a planned annual output of 1,200 units. In addition, AOI is expanding into electronics, with new production lines for laptops, tablets, smartphones, prepaid electricity meters, and routers aimed at meeting domestic demand and reducing reliance on imports. The meeting also covered AOI's clean energy initiatives, including the manufacture of advanced solar panels and the development of a solar power station in Uganda as part of Egypt's contribution to the Nile Basin Initiative.
