'EPIC' trouble for Tejashwi: RJD leader's 'name missing' from Bihar poll roll claim prompts EC to look into 'forgery'; what poll panel said
NEW DELHI:
Rashtriya Janata Dal
(RJD) leader
Tejashwi Yadav
's name is in the Bihar draft electoral rolls with the EPIC number used in the last poll. Meanwhile, a probe in on to ascertain if his second EPIC numbers is forged,
Election Commission of India
(ECI) sources told news agency ANI.
The poll body reportedly noted that it is "quite likely that the second EPIC (Election Photo Identity Card) was never made through official channel".
EPIC is issued by the ECI to eligible voters. It serves as both proof of identity and eligibility to vote in elections.
The poll body sources also rejected Tejaswi Yadav's allegation that his EPIC number was changed, saying that the RJD leader used the Electoral Roll with
EPIC No. RAB0456228
for filling his nomination papers on affidavit in 2020.
The sources told ANI that the former Bihar chief minister was having this EPIC number even in the electoral roll in 2015 and his name with this EPIC number exists in the draft Electoral Rolls.
They said the other
EPIC number - RAB2916120
has been found to be non-existent, and more than 10 years of records have been checked, and further inquiries are being made to understand 'whether that is a forged document'.

More than ten years old records have been checked. No records have been found for the second EPIC number yet. It is highly likely that the second EPIC was never made through the official channel. Further inquiries are on to understand that reality of the second EPIC number, whether that is a forged document,' a source told the agency.
Tejashwi Yadav, who is Lalu Yadav's son, kicked off a political storm on Saturday after publicly claiming that his name had vanished from Bihar's voter list, despite holding a valid EPIC number.
Displaying the "no records found" message on a large screen during a press conference, the former Deputy CM alleged a larger conspiracy by the Election Commission to erase voters ahead of the assembly polls.
However, responding to the allegations, the Election Commission of India said Tejashwi Yadav's name is present in the draft voter list. The Commission also released a copy of the list with his name to counter his claim.

The former BJP MP received a warm welcome as she arrived at Raja Bhoj Airport in Madhya Pradesh. 'Dharma and truth were on our side, so we were bound to win. Satyameva Jayate! I had said this earlier, and this has been proven now. Vidharmion ke, deshdrohion ke munh kaale huye hain. They have received a reply. The country has always been with Dharma and truth, and it will always be," she added. Launching a scathing attack at Congress, she alleged that they 'tortured" Hindus and jailed them, slapping false cases, and stressed that the case was a conspiracy by Congress. 'Congresspeople have always adopted appeasement politics for Muslims. They used this in their regime. They tortured Hindus in every manner, jailed them and slapped false cases on them. They called it 'saffron terror' and 'Hindutva terror'. Congress harbours such a petty mindset. This was a conspiracy by Congress, and this qualifies as treason," she said. #WATCH | 2008 Malegaon blast case all accused acquitted | Bhopal, MP: BJP leader Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur says, 'I have said this again and again that Parambir Singh is a terrible man. ECI abusing its powers, must be fought politically, legally: Congress leader Chidambaram
Amid the raging row over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram on Sunday (August 3, 2025) alleged that the Election Commission of India is trying to change the electoral character and patterns of States, and asserted that this 'abuse of powers' must be fought politically and legally. The former Home Minister said the Bihar voter revision exercise is getting 'curious and curious.' While 65 lakh voters are in danger of being disenfranchised in Bihar, reports of 'adding' 6.5 lakh persons as voters in Tamil Nadu is alarming and patently illegal, Mr. Chidambaram said in a post on X. "Calling them 'permanently migrated' is an insult to the migrant workers and a gross interference in the right of the electorate of Tamil Nadu to elect a government of its choice," the Rajya Sabha MP said. Election Commission of India publishes draft electoral rolls for Bihar following SIR Why should the migrant worker not return to Bihar or his/her home State to vote in the State Assembly election, as they usually do, Mr. Chidambaram asked. "Does not the migrant worker return to Bihar at the time of the Chhath puja festival?" he said. "A person to be enrolled as a voter must have a fixed and permanent legal home. The migrant worker has such a home in Bihar (or another state). How can he/she be enrolled as a voter in Tamil Nadu?" Mr. Chidambaram said. 'If the migrant worker's family has a permanent home in Bihar and lives in Bihar, how can the migrant worker be considered as 'permanently migrated' to Tamil Nadu,' he further asked. 'The ECI is abusing its powers and trying to change the electoral character and patterns of States. This abuse of powers must be fought politically and legally,' Mr. Chidambaram said. The Opposition has been protesting in both Houses of Parliament against the SIR, alleging the EC's exercise was aimed at "disenfranchising voters" in Bihar ahead of the Assembly elections. They have been demanding a discussion on the issue in both Houses of Parliament.

Bihar LoP Tejashwi Yadav under ECI's scrutiny after 'second EPIC' surfaces
PATNA: Bihar Opposition leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav seems to have landed in trouble after a second EPIC (election photo identity card) issued in his name came to light on Saturday. Election Commission of India (ECI) is said to have ordered an investigation to ascertain if second EPIC issued to Tejashwi was forged. The poll body said that 'second EPIC' was not made through official channels. EPIC is issued by ECI to eligible voters, and serves as identity proof. On Saturday, Tejashwi told the media that when he searched for his details using EPIC number RAB2916120 on the Election Commission's portal, his name did not appear. 'How can I contest elections when my name is missing from the electoral rolls,' he asked.
