Ronald Acuna injury update: Braves star pulled after experiencing Achilles tightness

Yahoo17 hours ago
Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. was pulled from Tuesday night's game against the Kansas City Royals after experiencing "right Achilles tightness," the team said.
The right fielder was lifted during the bottom of the sixth inning at Kauffman Stadium, shortly after he appeared to be hampered trying to get to a pair of balls hit in the air. The latter play resulted in a ground-rule double for Vinnie Pasquantino that moved the Royals' advantage to 9-3.
Eli White came in to replace Acuna, who lightly jogged off the field.
Acuna, the 2023 NL MVP, entered Wednesday's game batting .309 on the season with a .430 on-base percentage, both the best marks on the Braves. He has appeared in 54 games.

Reds acquire 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes from Pirates in all-NL Central trade

MLB's hot stove is heating up a day before the league trade deadline. The Cincinnati Reds are acquiring third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes from the Pittsburgh Pirates, USA TODAY Sports' Bob Nightengale has confirmed. Hayes, 28, has five more years of club control after this year thanks to the eight-year, $70 million extension he signed in 2022. The Pirates are receiving reliever Taylor Rogers and shortstop prospect Sammy Stafura in the trade. Hayes, a 2023 Gold Glove-winner at third base, has played in 100 games for the Pirates this season and owns a .236/.279/.290 slash line for an OPS of .569. He has hit two home runs so far this year. Braves' Chris Sale Could Be Out for Season After Unfortunate Update

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Atlanta Braves are among the biggest disappointments in Major League Baseball this year as injuries have all but ruined what could have been another competitive season. The team opened the year without superstars Ronald Acuna Jr. or Spencer Strider as they recovered from injuries, then it lost Reynaldo Lopez, AJ Smith-Shawver, Spencer Schwellenbach and several others to various injuries, plus Jurickson Profar was suspended. Now, after a brief and triumphant return from Acuna, he has been placed on the injured list once again with an Achilles problem. In what has been a brutal season for the Braves, perhaps the injury to reigning Cy Young Award pitcher Chris Sale was the harshest. As one of the team's only remaining effective starters, he went down with a fractured left rib in June. And now it seems he could be out for the rest of the year, after an update from manager Brian Snitker. "By the way, Snitker said that all of the Braves' rehabbing pitchers, including Sale, are still far from even starting rehab assignments," The Athletic's David O'Brien reported. "I'm not expecting any to pitch before September, if at all in this lost season." O'Brien did note that Sale could demand at least one more start if he recovers in time. But given the likely futile nature of the Braves' remaining games at that point, he might unofficially be done for the year. That would be one of the biggest disappointments amid the season, as Sale demonstrated how effective he can still be when healthy last year and enjoyed an All-Star nod to start this campaign. If Sale does sit out the rest of the year, though, the Braves can hope he will be a major part of their reset for next season. He has an $18 million club option ahead and it seems the Braves are going to exercise it, even if he can't take the mound again this year. Could Phillies' Youth Movement Clear Path For Ranger Suarez To Join Rival?

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Philadelphia Phillies are sitting behind the New York Mets in the standings with the trade deadline looming large. Though the Phillies have one of the best records in Major League Baseball so far, it's clear that there are some weaknesses to address. The team seems to be in need of an outfield upgrade as free agent acquisition Max Kepler struggles. And they are in need of a new closer without any true shutdown options currently in the bullpen. One area of strength, though, is the starting rotation. With the likes of Zack Wheeler, Cristopher Sanchez and Jesus Luzardo on the staff, the Phillies have plenty of options to start playoff games. But with several younger options waiting in the wings, one MLB writer wonders if they'll soon see Ranger Suarez depart for a hated rival in free agency. "The Phillies are about to transition into a slightly younger pitching staff, with Andrew Painter and Mick Abel both on the MLB fast track," Christopher Kline wrote for FanSided. "That opens the door for Atlanta to be aggressive in pursuit of the 29-year-old. The Braves missed out on a Phillies staple a couple years ago in Aaron Nola. If that just means they get Suarez in 2026, the team will be better for it." (Photo by) More Mandato/Getty Though he has dealt with some injuries, Suarez has been excellent for the Phillies in the last few seasons. He enjoyed an All-Star nod last year and has been even better this year, with a 2.59 ERA in 15 starts so far. But with several effective arms in the rotation and some potential rookies looking to debut, the Phillies might not be willing to invest a significant long-term contract in keeping Suarez. As a result, he could take a better deal elsewhere, including from a Braves team that will be looking to reset after a disappointing season. "Suarez has made it clear he wants to re-sign in Philadelphia, which would make it all the more sweet for Braves fans if Atlanta can lure him to the southeast," Kline added. Phillies fans can be grateful that their rotation has so many options, but losing Suarez to the Braves would still be a tough adjustment.
