Mini Mathur Opens Up On Why She Quit Hosting: ‘TV Serial Bahus Replaced Skilled Anchors'

Mini said that she always chose projects that valued her skillset and where her presence added gravity.
Television personality and seasoned host Mini Mathur has opened up about her decision to step away from television hosting, sharing how changing industry trends pushed her out of a space she once dominated. In an interview with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Mini revealed the real reason behind her departure from general entertainment channels (GECs).
'I'm not done with GEC. GEC was done with me," she admitted, explaining that she left not because of burnout or lack of interest, but because of a shift in industry priorities.
Having spent nearly three decades in television, Mini built a career on being a trained and passionate host, presenting everything from game shows like Tol Mol Ke Bol, beauty-based shows like Khoobsurat, travel shows such as Indian Holiday, and reality hits like Indian Idol. She recalled, 'I wasn't in the business to be a star. I love television presenting. I love talking to people. I love presenting reality."
Mini said that she always chose projects that valued her skillset and where her presence added gravity. However, she witnessed a change where television channels began prioritising social media metrics and TV serial popularity over experience.
'At the point that I was hosting everything, suddenly the trend changed to make the bahus of the serial stand in front of the teleprompter because she's popular," Mini said, referring to how lead actors from daily soaps were often handed hosting gigs with little regard for training or experience.
She highlighted that in international markets, seasoned hosts are respected and often lead shows well into their 60s and 70s, citing Oprah and Jimmy Fallon as examples. But in India, she said, 'We are chasing numbers… This person has so many million followers, take her in your show, whether she knows acting or not."
Mini explained that she chose to walk away when she realised she was being replaced not for lack of talent, but for lack of trending popularity. 'If I can be replaced by someone who's popular in a TV serial, I don't want to do your show," she declared.

Nitesh Tiwari Spent 10 Years On Ramayana Script, Studied Yoga Shastra And Consulted Pandits: Report

Nitesh Tiwari spent a decade researching and scripting his epic Ramayana, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and music by AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer. Nitesh Tiwari, known for films like Dangal and Chhichhore, has been quietly working for ten years on his epic retelling of the Ramayana. Every line, scene and dialogue has been meticulously crafted since 2015. According to a report in TOI, Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra spent years studying the Vashisht Yoga Shastras and consulting with pandits to weave spiritual wisdom into a story that speaks to today. The idea is to make the emotional journey of Ram relatable while honouring its ancient roots. The cast is star-studded. Ranbir Kapoor takes on Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Yash is Ravana, Ravi Dubey becomes Lakshman, and Sunny Deol portrays Hanuman. Supporting cast includes Amitabh Bachchan, Rakul Preet Singh, Kunal Kapoor, Lara Dutta, Arun Govil and Sheeba Chadha. Their vision was unveiled in a teaser that paired glimpses of Ranbir and Yash with a powerful score by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman — marking what may be Indian cinema's most ambitious East-meets-West collaboration. Filming began only after the script felt ready. Tech rehearsals were held in Los Angeles in 2024, while elaborate sets—over a dozen of them—were built back in India. Many have now been dismantled to make way for post‑production. The film also brings in co-director Ravi Udyawar and VFX by DNEG, the Oscar‑winning studio behind Inception and Interstellar. Tiwari's Ramayana will arrive in two parts—first in Diwali 2026 and the second in Diwali 2027. The first instalment will explore Ram and Sita's early lives, their exile and Hanuman's entry. The second will focus on Ravana and the epic final battle. Ranbir Kapoor has locked Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027 for Ramayana Part 1 and Ramayana Part 2. The film's first poster has been released along with the release date. Ranbir plays the role of Lord Ram. The two-part films are directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The release date was confirmed by Prime Focus Studios' Namit Malhotra. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. Male stars get better vanity vans, washrooms, says Nushrratt Bharuccha; recalls being dropped by her agency after biggest hit: ‘Had no work for 2 years'

Even among the privileged and the elite, women often have it worse compared to men, and often face sexism and discrimination. And the same holds true in the case of celebrities. Not just that female celebrities have to tackle objectification and exploitation on screen, but they are also forced to deal with casual sexism and discrimination off screen, leaving them to fight for virtually everything. Actor Nushrratt Bharuccha recently opened up about how such toxic practices of sexism happen in the workplace, with male actors receiving even better washrooms compared to women. 'As soon as a guy delivers a hit, no matter if he is an insider or an outsider, he will get five new options immediately. But women have to keep struggling. I have been saying this since the time of Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011). For a girl to break out and get those options… I am not saying that she has to become an overnight sensation or anything… What does an actor want once their movie is a hit? To get a few options for potential future projects from which they can choose. That's it. They just need opportunities. We don't get as many (options) as heroes do,' she observed during a chat Nayandeep Rakshit on his with YouTube channel. She also maintained that male stars often get bigger vanity vans. 'There have been times when I went around asking, 'Can I use the hero's vanity van for 5 minutes? He's not here anyway. Can I use the washrooms?' Because they are nicer than mine. However, I won't complain or bicker at that time. I tell myself that I will bring myself to that point where I get these things by default,' she noted. 'In my earlier days, I used to fly economy class. These days, I generally don't, unless there are no other tickets available and I absolutely have to travel that day. But when it's a matter of choice, I've always flown business class. Once, I was playing a small role in a film. All the other actors were seated in business class, while I was in economy class along with the assistants of technicians. It was an international flight, and the journey was quite long. I had made friends with some of the people (in business class). They said, 'Nush, come and sit with us.' That was an option as well. But I said, 'I won't come because this is the place that was given to me. But I will come to a place where I will fly business class and they will book my tickets with the production house's money, not mine.' I have managed to make that happen,' she added. She also recalled facing a rough patch in life where she had no work for two years, and this happened after she delivered the biggest hit of her career. While she did not name the film, she mentioned that she did not work for two years after she was dropped by her management agency after delivering her biggest hit so far. 'Once, one of my films became a blockbuster. I was with a certain management agency at that time. After the film became huge, my manager called me for a coffee. I went and started chitchatting. Meanwhile, the manager said, 'Sorry, we have to let you go. We can't manage for you anymore. We are not able to get things done for you.' But my film had just become a hit; what more should a person do? Though I tried to control my emotions, I started crying as they were giving out reasons,' she said. Nushrratt continued, 'After they left, I sat there alone, crying while drinking my coffee, after having just given the biggest hit in my career. It was a terrible feeling. I had no idea what to do after that. I had no work for 1-2 years at that time, nor did I have a team. Since I had just delivered a hit, it didn't occur to people that I hadn't signed on anything. They thought I was just being cautious with my choices. But the fact was, I was crying, without a team and a support system.' Nushrratt was last seen in Amazon Prime Video's Chhorii 2. She has appeared in hit films like Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Dream Girl, Pyaar Ka Punchnama among others.
