Mini Mathur Opens Up On Why She Quit Hosting: ‘TV Serial Bahus Replaced Skilled Anchors'
Mini said that she always chose projects that valued her skillset and where her presence added gravity.
Television personality and seasoned host Mini Mathur has opened up about her decision to step away from television hosting, sharing how changing industry trends pushed her out of a space she once dominated. In an interview with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Mini revealed the real reason behind her departure from general entertainment channels (GECs).
'I'm not done with GEC. GEC was done with me," she admitted, explaining that she left not because of burnout or lack of interest, but because of a shift in industry priorities.
Having spent nearly three decades in television, Mini built a career on being a trained and passionate host, presenting everything from game shows like Tol Mol Ke Bol, beauty-based shows like Khoobsurat, travel shows such as Indian Holiday, and reality hits like Indian Idol. She recalled, 'I wasn't in the business to be a star. I love television presenting. I love talking to people. I love presenting reality."
Mini said that she always chose projects that valued her skillset and where her presence added gravity. However, she witnessed a change where television channels began prioritising social media metrics and TV serial popularity over experience.
'At the point that I was hosting everything, suddenly the trend changed to make the bahus of the serial stand in front of the teleprompter because she's popular," Mini said, referring to how lead actors from daily soaps were often handed hosting gigs with little regard for training or experience.
She highlighted that in international markets, seasoned hosts are respected and often lead shows well into their 60s and 70s, citing Oprah and Jimmy Fallon as examples. But in India, she said, 'We are chasing numbers… This person has so many million followers, take her in your show, whether she knows acting or not."
Mini explained that she chose to walk away when she realised she was being replaced not for lack of talent, but for lack of trending popularity. 'If I can be replaced by someone who's popular in a TV serial, I don't want to do your show," she declared.

Published By : Kashvi Raj Singh Trending Desk Last Updated: July 28, 2025, 15:51 IST BTS will release a new album in 2026. (Photo Credit: Instagram) With the Hallyu wave taking over the world, one name that is leading the charge is none other than the K-pop supergroup BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys. Formed in 2013 under BigHit Entertainment (now HYBE), the group has become one of the most prominent names in the music industry. Consisting of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook, BTS enjoys a fan following in millions, if not billions, across the globe. Following the completion of their mandatory military service, the septet is busy making their brand-new album, scheduled to be released sometime in the first half of 2026, if all goes well. And if you can't wait for the new songs, we suggest you revisit some of their old hits. Here are five BTS songs that you need to add to your Spotify playlist. N.O Also known as 'No Offence', the song was released in 2013 as the lead single of their first EP O!RUL8,2? (Oh! Are You Late, too?). Through this hip-hop song, the group questions Korea's take on education. They asked their peers not to be forced into following their parents' dreams. Instead, encouraged them to stand up for themselves and have their own dreams. Attack On Bangtan Another song from O!RUL8,2? (Oh! Are You Late, too?) It is one of their anthemic songs, which was released in 2013. The title is a playful nod to the popular anime Attack on Titan. The lyrics of the song are bold and full of confidence, as the group sings about their determination to succeed in the music scene. Run The lead single from their fourth EP, titled The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 2, was released in 2015. The lyrics of this rock song encourage its fans to persevere, rising up and running every time they are knocked down by obstacles in their path. BTS also tell everyone that it's alright to make mistakes. I Need U One of the tracks on their third EP, The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Part 1, I Need U explores the theme of pain and confusion in a toxic love. Through the lyrics, they sing about how they are being ruined by the love and want for that person, and want them out of their lives. Make It Right A song on BTS' 2019 EP Map of the Soul: Persona, 'Make It Right," is a collaboration between the septet and Lauv, co-written by Ed Sheeran. Through the song, the group sings about making the world a better place and their desire to give it back to someone who helped them find their way. In this case, it is interpreted as their way of showing appreciation to their ardent fans. Kashvi Raj Singh Kashvi Raj Singh is a Sub Editor at News18. Kaantha trailer: Dulquer Salmaan, Samuthirakani head a tale of bruised egos between father-son. Watch
Kaantha trailer: The trailer for Selvaraj Selvamani's Dulquer Salmaan and Samuthirakani-starrer Kaantha was released on Monday. Dulquer, who celebrates his birthday today, July 28, and Samuthirakani play son and father in what looks like a retro tale of bruised egos. Kaantha trailer: The Tamil-Telugu bi-lingual is produced by Rana Daggubati and Dulquer Salmaan. Kaantha trailer The trailer for Kaantha begins with a studio announcing a horror film called Saantha, the first horror film being made in Tamil/Telugu. Set in 1950s Madras, Samuthirakani is shown as the director of the film, fondly called Ayya by everyone, who doesn't seem happy about the film's cast. Leading the film is his son, a superstar who was trained all his life by his father to be in films, and yet, something has gone wrong between them. Even as Dulquer tells a co-star that no one respects Ayya more than him, the feelings don't seem reciprocated. Ayya is quick to choke his son and throw chairs at him. But after he decides to make the female actor, played by Bhagyashri Borse, both the 'hero and heroine', Dulquer seems at wits' end, deciding to hit back. He even tells the studio that the film will now be called Kaantha, not Saantha. The trailer ends by hinting at a war of ego between father and son. The internet thought the trailer of Kaantha was 'superb' if reactions on X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube are anything to go by. 'Big fan of your gemini ganeshan role in Mahanati. Now this one also giving same vibes. Can't wait to experience this on screen,' commented one fan. 'more than expected. seems another banger loading,' wrote another. One person thought Kaantha was a 'sureshot hit' while a few others praised Dulquer for his script selection. About Kaantha Kaantha is written and directed by Selvaraj Selvamani and stars Dulquer, Samuthirakani and Bhagyashri as the leads. Jhanu Chanthar composed the music for the film, which will be released in theatres on 12 September. Rana Daggubati, Dulquer Salmaan, Prashanth Potluri and Jom Varghese produce the film under Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films.
