Kabir Bedi says Rekha is a very sensitive girl who is afraid of getting hurt: ‘Not like we sat down together and had lots of evenings talking'

While Rekha is known for a long list of iconic movies like 'Umrao Jaan', 'Khoobsurat', 'Silsila' and many more, 'Khoon Bhari Maang' also remains in her best work list. The actress broke stereotypes around actresses with the role and during those days, female-oriented scripts hardly existed. Kabir Bedi was Rekha's co-star in the film and in a recent interview, he has opened up on working with the legendary actress. The film was directed by Rakesh Roshan . Talking about how he came on board, Bedi said during a chat with Siddharth Kannan, 'Khoon Bhari Maang is the film I am most known for, it's the most remembered. The film was a superhit. I was shooting for another series, called Magnum PI, in Hawaii when I received a call from Rakesh Roshan. He offered me the role of a hero in his film, and I asked why he chose me for it. Then he told me that the hero becomes the villain in the movie, and no other hero was willing to do this. He also shared that starring another villain would have no surprise element, which is why he told me only I could play hero and a villain.' He further added, 'The minute he told me Rehka was the heroine, I said yes. Back then, it was a huge honor working with her. She had won some awards for Umrao Jaan and was a brilliant actor, so I re-routed my schedule in Hawaii and came to shoot here. Rekha made that film what it is; she was the heart and soul of Khoon Bhari Maang. The film made a big impression on people. And I didn't want to lose the opportunity of working with Rekha. ' Talking about how Rekha is as a person and how he bonded with her, Kabir added, 'We had mutual respect for one another. She is a private person; she guards her privacy. She is a very sensitive girl who is afraid of being hurt, so she protects herself, and I respect that. Even today, we meet very nicely, I embrace her, like her, but it was never like we sat down together and had lots of evenings talking about life. We would meet on set, speak there, but no great socializing after work. '

Amaal Mallik says his mother saw poverty after father Daboo Malik's failed career: ‘She was down to last ₹500'

Music composer Amaal Mallik grabbed headlines when he broke ties with his family and announced it on social media. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Amaal talked about his parents' financial condition. He recalled how his father Daboo Malik's failure in the music industry led him to be a composer. Amaal Mallik talks about his parents facing poverty. Amaal Mallik on parents' financial struggle Amaal recalled how her mother navigated the financial struggles and said, "My mother saw a lot of bad times and poverty because nothing worked out for my dad in the industry. She would guide us to do music, but never as a profession. She has seen the worst; she was down to the last ₹500. Mere liye aisa tha ki main ek 10 saal ka baccha yeh witness kar raha hun ki ek couple crumble ho raha hai. Inki jagah nahi bann rahi industry (For me, it was like being a 10-year-old child witnessing a couple fall apart. They weren't able to find their place in the industry), and those things added fuel to the fire that I really want to be a music composer just for my father. Otherwise, I wanted to be a cricketer." Amaal revealed that his mother often considered him 'foolish' for his approach to spending on music. He admitted to consistently exceeding budgets for his songs—if he received ₹20 lakh, he would end up spending ₹25 lakh; for a ₹30 lakh budget, he would push it to ₹35 lakh, often adding ₹5 lakh from his own pocket. According to Amaal, his mother didn't understand the reasoning behind such decisions and was uncomfortable with the fact that he wouldn't save money. He revealed that though his father knows everything about his money spending, he often tend to hide his dinner bills from his mother if they exceed a certain limit. Amaal further claimed that a lot of big producers won't clear almost 40 per cent of his payment, adding, 'I am owed around ₹25 lakh in total, but it doesn't matter because God has been kind, and you can make this in one night and one performance.' About Amaal Mallik Amaal made his debut as a music composer with Salman Khan's film Jai Ho. He went on to compose music in films like Khoobsurat, Baaghi, Golmaal Again, Kabir Singh and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, among others.

Mini Mathur Opens Up On Why She Quit Hosting: ‘TV Serial Bahus Replaced Skilled Anchors'

Last Updated: Mini said that she always chose projects that valued her skillset and where her presence added gravity. Television personality and seasoned host Mini Mathur has opened up about her decision to step away from television hosting, sharing how changing industry trends pushed her out of a space she once dominated. In an interview with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Mini revealed the real reason behind her departure from general entertainment channels (GECs). 'I'm not done with GEC. GEC was done with me," she admitted, explaining that she left not because of burnout or lack of interest, but because of a shift in industry priorities. Having spent nearly three decades in television, Mini built a career on being a trained and passionate host, presenting everything from game shows like Tol Mol Ke Bol, beauty-based shows like Khoobsurat, travel shows such as Indian Holiday, and reality hits like Indian Idol. She recalled, 'I wasn't in the business to be a star. I love television presenting. I love talking to people. I love presenting reality." Mini said that she always chose projects that valued her skillset and where her presence added gravity. However, she witnessed a change where television channels began prioritising social media metrics and TV serial popularity over experience. 'At the point that I was hosting everything, suddenly the trend changed to make the bahus of the serial stand in front of the teleprompter because she's popular," Mini said, referring to how lead actors from daily soaps were often handed hosting gigs with little regard for training or experience. She highlighted that in international markets, seasoned hosts are respected and often lead shows well into their 60s and 70s, citing Oprah and Jimmy Fallon as examples. But in India, she said, 'We are chasing numbers… This person has so many million followers, take her in your show, whether she knows acting or not." Mini explained that she chose to walk away when she realised she was being replaced not for lack of talent, but for lack of trending popularity. 'If I can be replaced by someone who's popular in a TV serial, I don't want to do your show," she declared. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
