20% increase in intercity tourist bus reservations : redBus report
MUMBAI : redBus, the digital bus ticketing service, released its Annual BusTrack Report on Thursday, offering detailed analysis of intercity travel trends across private bus services in India.
The report presented a specific focus on Maharashtra's travel patterns, booking behaviours and favoured routes for 2024-25. The state recorded a notable 20% increase in intercity tourist bus reservations compared to the previous year, it stated.
The report highlighted a few findings for Maharashtra. This included the most popular routes -- the busiest travel corridors were identified as Pune-Goa, Pune-Hyderabad, Pune-Indore and Mumbai-Hyderabad, showcasing Maharashtra's vital transport links with Western and Southern India.
When it came to reservation patterns, nearly half (49%) of travellers opted for same-day bookings, while 46% secured their travel 1-7 days beforehand, suggesting a preference for spontaneous and short-term journey planning.
The study also showed small city growth. Smaller cities (Tier 3) in Maharashtra demonstrated a 23% rise in digital bookings year-on-year, indicating increased online platform adoption outside major urban centres.
In case of travel timings, weekday journeys constituted 69% of all bookings, suggesting a predominance of professional and business-related travel. Maharashtra's travellers also showed strong inclination towards Sleeper buses (87%) and AC buses (82%), reflecting demand for comfortable and overnight journey options, the redBus report added.

Airport lounge experience set for a change
NEW DELHI: Soon, you won't need to queue up to access an airport lounge. To boost lounge experience, several operators and credit card-issuing banks are planning direct business, removing aggregators on whose machine a flyer swipes their credit card to enter a lounge, reports Saurabh Sinha. They plan to launch an app where lounge access can be booked in advance. Then the passenger just needs to swipe their card at the lounge gate and be seated in a particular area as per their credit card status. "A flyer can log in with an OTP and link all his/her credit cards. The app will check whether he/she has lounge access available and then allow them to book a lounge at the airport they are flying out of," said an official. "For banks, lounge access is among key features of premium credit cards, but the experience at present is not good. So hard-selling premium cards using this as a USP becomes difficult. Full-service airlines are also upset that their premium passengers have to queue up in the same line with a credit card," said a source. However, many flyers have credit cards therefore the lounge use is no longer limited to those flying full-service airlines. Operators are planning to have separate areas for premium card, business, first class flyers to offer better experience at big lounges. However, two leading lounge operators said, "Aggregators have warned us of stopping lounge entry if they are removed from the business. We are taking legal steps to prevent that. ‘Beloved' airline's flight cuts short ex-AI loader's life
Ahmedabad: After Rajendra Patankar's long and dedicated service to Air India (AI), it was Flight 171 from his beloved airline that wrote his final chapter. The 63-year-old former Air India cargo loader was merely 20 minutes away from completing his morning shift as a Gujarat Industrial Security Force (GISF) jawan at Atulyam-4, when destiny dealt its cruel hand. Caught in the searing impact of the AI plane crash, he ran out of the building, partially burned. The miracle that got Rajendra out alive ended Wednesday evening when he succumbed to his injuries at Civil Hospital. Rushed to the hospital with 33% burns across his face, forearms, and hands, Patankar remained conscious through most of the six days, even walking and speaking with his family. His son Vishal, 37, who works with AI's security unit, was mobilised to help with rescue operations, and only learnt of his father's condition later. "My father said he recognised the sound of aircraft engines just before the blast. Look at the irony of fate. He loved Air India. It gave him a life. None of us had imagined it would also take it away," said Vishal. Vishal, his younger brother Ankit, 35, and their mother Meena, 61, found Rajendra alert at the hospital. "With so many doctors visiting him, he began thinking something was wrong," Vishal said. The anxiety spiked during a dressing replacement for his deep tissue burns, which amplified the pain. The next day, he lost consciousness and was placed on ventilator as his heart struggled to maintain the required oxygen level in his blood. His body gave up the fight the following evening. Doctors attempted CPR six times, but failed to resuscitate him. On Thursday, GISF personnel gathered in large numbers. Rajendra was given a salute of honour at the BJMC campus, said senior GISF inspector Girish M Thakur. His body was escorted in a police-protected convoy that passed through Meghaninagar, before reaching the crematorium in the Ashok Mill area. A man who worked most of his life around aeroplanes, was laid to rest in the shadow of one.

Online resolution for late MSE payments likely from next week
The government is likely to next week roll out Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) for speedier resolution of delayed payment disputes for micro and small enterprises , officials said. Presently, the Samadhaan portal provides limited digital services to MSEs such as registration for dispute resolution. Under the proposed mechanism, parties can not only register their delayed payment cases but also submit documents on the portal as evidence to strengthen their case. "Right from the filing stage, sending notice, and hearing every bit will be digitised. Samadhaan portal will be subsumed under ODR. The scheme promotes document-only dispute resolution, as in commercial disputes, documents override verbal submission, " a government official told ET. MSEs will also be provided concessions in application, documentation and other processing fees. The ODR mechanism under the MSME Development Act seeks to strengthen institutional support by building human resource and technological capacity of the Micro and Small Enterprises Facilitation Council (MSEFC), set up under the MSMED Act, the official added. These MSEFCs will be financially assisted under the scheme to create legal capacity. Live Events The MSMED Act prescribes a 45-day window for buyers to pay their MSME suppliers, failing which they become liable to payment of interest. As part of the ODR, the government is also giving a push to AI, allowing parties to opt for an AI-facilitated dispute settlement process before approaching MSEFC.
