Download ETTravelWorld App Get Realtime updates Save your favourite articles Scan to download App IRCTC-authorised platform redRail has launched a new feature aimed at easing travel uncertainty for Indian rail passengers. The 'Seat Guarantee' scheme offers users a threefold refund if their Tatkal ticket remains unconfirmed, setting a new industry benchmark in rail refund includes a full fare return and twice the ticket amount in voucher form, usable on redRail or redBus. The option is available to users booking waitlisted Tatkal tickets on select trains, with an additional charge over IRCTC's regular Tatkal ticketing is one of the most time-sensitive and stressful processes for Indian rail passengers. With demand often outstripping supply, confirmed bookings are not guaranteed, leaving many travellers without a confirmed seat. According to IRCTC, the e-ticketing platform recorded a peak hourly Tatkal booking figure of 1,85,513 during FY 2023–24, highlighting the volume and competitive nature of such new feature is designed to offer passengers a fallback in case their journey does not materialise due to waitlist issues. The feature has reportedly seen strong uptake in South India, followed by Western regions. It is currently available on select routes and supplements the existing 'Seat Guarantee' for general quota bookings.'Tatkal booking is one of the most stressful moments in an Indian rail traveller's journey. There's a narrow window, limited supply, and low confirmation rates, especially for waitlisted Tatkal tickets,' said Prakash Sangam, CEO of redBus. 'We saw that users wanted to book tickets but at times they held back due to uncertainty. That's what prompted us to build 'Seat Guarantee for Tatkal tickets'. It's a tech-led solution designed to unlock trust and confidence in last-minute train travel.'The company said that most users who opted for the feature eventually travelled on confirmed tickets. For those who didn't, the refund credits have enabled quick recovery and alternative arrangements.

Employment should not be end goal of education, be open to opportunities, MP tells students
Employment should not be the end goal of education, but a student should be ready to take on challenges and be open to various opportunities available in today's times, said Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Balashowry. Addressing the students as the chief guest of 'Achievers' Day' programme at the Krishna University (KrU) College of Arts and Science in Machilipatnam on May 22, Thursday, Mr. Balashowry said a student should take inspiration from entrepreneurs like Phanindra Sama, who, along with his two other friends, founded redBus, an online ticket booking company. Recalling how the platform came to be, Mr. Balashowry said Mr. Phanindra Sama's disappointment at not getting a ticket to go home for Deepavali led him to build an online ticketing platform in 2006 with just ₹5 lakh. Today, he sold the company at ₹800 crore, the MP said. Taking another example, Mr. Balashowry talked about Kallam Anji Reddy, the founder-chairman of Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, who started with a small position in Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited. Later, he went on to found the pharma company, the MP told the students. Later, the MP announced that proposals for setting of an athletic track, indoor stadium, swimming pool and tennis court on the campus have been sent to the Central government and that he would work towards improving facilities on the campus. Krishna Superintendent of Police R. Gangadhar Rao also spoke. He advised students to stay away from gambling and direct their focus on studies. Vice-Chancellor, K. Ramji, said students from the KrU College of Arts and Science have been offered jobs with an annual package ranging from ₹2.50 lakh to ₹4.50 lakh. Students who got the offer letters were felicitated.

IIT Delhi student stranded at midnight as bus stops midway in Rajasthan, shares ordeal
An Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi student said he was stranded at 2am along with other passengers after the private bus he boarded was pulled over mid-route for not paying road taxes for over a Jajodia detailed the incident in a now-viral LinkedIn post. He had booked a private bus from Delhi to Laxmangarh through redBus, paying Rs 900 for a single sleeper seat. The journey, however, took an unexpected said the bus was stopped near Shahjahanpur by Rajasthan Police in the early hours of the morning, who found it had been operating without clearing road taxes for over a year. All passengers, including women, children, and elderly people, were asked to deboard and left stranded without assistance. 'After two hours stranded on the roadside, I was forced into another bus that had no available seats, just standing space,' he said, adding, 'Some people had to board a bus that didn't even go to their destination. They were dropped off 60 km away and had to find their own way from there.'The student also slammed redBus support as he claimed the responses were generic and unhelpful throughout the ordeal. It's about safety and trust in public transport.'Jajodia questioned the absence of emergency protocols in such situations and called for stricter checks on bus operators listed on third-party platforms.'This isn't just about Rs 900. It's about trust, safety, and responsibility in public travel. If you're running a platform that connects people to travel services, the bare minimum is to ensure those services are legally compliant and safe. We deserve better,' Jajodia said as he concluded his post. Take a look at the post here: In a follow-up post, Jajodia said he was initially offered a partial refund, 15 per cent from the operator and 25 per cent from redBus. Delhi Metro tickets now available on more than 10 popular apps. Here's the list.
Travellers can now book Delhi Metro tickets through more than 10 widely-used apps, including Google Maps, redBus, Rapido, EaseMyTrip, and Namma Yatri, following the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's (DMRC) integration with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). The service is also available on Chartr, Highway Delite, OneTicket, Tummoc, Yatri Railways, and a Telegram bot operated by Miles & Kilometres. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC, Thursday said, 'This partnership with ONDC is part of our effort to simplify metro travel and bring it into the digital spaces people already use every day.' 'By offering ticketing through multiple familiar apps, we are removing the friction that often comes with transit access,' he added. According to a DMRC spokesperson, this integration is the first such large-scale rollout by an urban transit system in India and marks a step towards building open, interoperable digital infrastructure for mobility. DMRC went live on the ONDC Network in November 2024 in a soft launch. Enabled through a single-point integration, the ticketing system allows metro journeys to be planned alongside inter-city or local transport. For instance, a traveller arriving by bus from Jaipur to ISBT Kashmere Gate can now book both their bus and metro ticket via redBus. Similarly, users of the Rapido app can plan a bike ride to the metro station, book the metro journey, and then complete the last leg via the same app. 'The integration of DMRC into the ONDC Network illustrates how open digital ecosystems can enable broader, more seamless access to public services,' said Vibhor Jain, Acting Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer, ONDC. 'By connecting once to the Network, DMRC can now offer ticketing across a range of everyday apps without needing custom integrations for each one,' he added. The DMRC spokesperson emphasised that this collaboration aligns with the metro's broader digital vision of simplifying the commuter experience while expanding its service footprint.
