As actor Suriya celebrated his milestone 50th birthday on July 23, 2025, a sea of fans gathered outside his residence in Chennai to mark the occasion. Videos from the early morning celebration quickly spread across social media. It shows the actor's overwhelmed reaction as chants of his name filled the street.
In one of the widely shared clips, Suriya is seen in a simple white outfit, stepping out to greet the crowd. He smiles, folds his hands in gratitude, and waves to his fans as they cheer loudly from the packed street. A particularly heartfelt moment came when Suriya took out his phone and recorded a selfie video from a higher floor, showing the sheer volume of admirers assembled below. 'Love you all," he says in the video, blowing a flying kiss to the cheering crowd.

Suriya, who made his acting debut with Nerrukku Ner in 1997, has enjoyed a diverse filmography over the decades. While his recent outing Kanguva in 2024, in which he played both a warrior and a bounty hunter, underperformed with Rs 106.25 crore worldwide against its Rs 350-crore budget, he bounced back with Retro this year. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film earned praise from critics and grossed Rs 96.97 crore globally.
Currently, the actor is filming Karuppu with RJ Balaji, where he will once again portray dual roles. He has also signed a yet-untitled film with Venky Atluri, which will mark his debut in Telugu cinema.
On Suriya's 50th birthday today, the teaser of Karuppu was released by the makers. It opens with power power-packed avatar of Suriya. The scene keeps on shifting. It is set against the village carnival. A voiceover adds gravitas, as Suriya makes a compelling entrance.

Karuppu, starring Suriya in the lead, is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures and written and directed by RJB, with cinematography by GK Vishnu and music by Sai Abhyankar. It is planned for release this October during Diwali.

Sea of devotees flocks to Mathura to celebrate Janmashtami
Agency: PTI Mathura/Varanasi (UP), Aug 16 (PTI) Lakhs of devotees from across the world gathered in Mathura on Saturday to celebrate Janmasthami, with pilgrims queuing up since early morning to catch a glimpse of the deity in the birth place of Lord Krishna. Janmashtami was celebrated with great pomp throughout the Braj region, but the main ceremony was held at the Radha Krishna temple within the Bhagwat Bhavan complex here. Officials said the enthusiasm was palpable as devotees sought to catch a glimpse of 'thakur' (god), with queues forming as early as late Friday night at the northern gate of the temple. The eagerness of the crowd persisted late into the night, as the celebrations headed for a climax. The city and the municipal administrations transformed Mathura for the occasion, as roads and crossings were specially decorated, with scenes from 'Krishna Leela' set up as selfie points. Various cultural events hosted folk artistes from different parts of India, showcasing Awadhi, Bundelkhandi, Rajasthani and Haryanvi traditions through their art. Food, water and 'sherbet' were distributed free of cost to the pilgrims at multiple locations. To ensure the safety of the devotees, the city and the temple premises were divided into four zones and 18 sectors, with heavy police deployment at every point, the officials said. Janmashtami was was also celebrated with special rituals in Varanasi. According to the officials of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, clothes and gifts were sent from here to the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura for the occasion. The movie opened to collections of Rs 75.50 crore, added Rs 63.50 crore on day 2 (Independence Day holiday) and is likely putting up Rs 47.50 crore on day 3, taking the 3 day cume to Rs 186.50 crore. Going by how it is doing, the Sunday collections are going to drop down to around Rs 40 crore, giving the movie a weekend of a little over Rs 225 crore. The Day Wise India Gross Collections Of Coolie Are As Under Day India Gross Collections 1 Rs 75.50 crore 2 Rs 63.50 crore 3 Rs 47.50 crore Total Rs 186.50 crore Coolie's Rs 47.50 Crore Day 3 Is Excellent But Given How It Started, The Numbers Should Have Been Closer To Rs 60 Crore If the Saturday numbers of Coolie are seen, not taking into consideration the fact that it opened to the numbers it did, they are excellent and not many Tamil movies have really been able to manage it.
