
Vivo X Fold 5 launch date and other key features officially confirmed
The Vivo X Fold 5 will debut in China on June 25 at 7:00 PM local time (4:30 PM IST). The official teaser highlights the phone's slim profile even when folded. The device will come in black, white, and green colour options. The back panel features a large circular camera module housing three lenses, including a periscope telephoto sensor, alongside an LED flash. The camera system carries the Zeiss branding. On the front, the cover display will have a centred punch-hole for the selfie camera. Vivo's product manager, Han Boxiao, shared sample photos which showed the camera's 1x, 20x telephoto, and telephoto macro capabilities.

The Vivo X Fold 5 will feature an 8T LTPO AMOLED display both on the inside and outside. It is expected to feature a 6.53-inch cover screen and an 8.03-inch main 2K AMOLED screen, both with 120Hz refresh rate support. The display will reach up to 4,500 nits of peak brightness and carry TUV Rheinland's global eye protection 3.0 certification.
Under the hood, the device will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, which promises roughly 30 percent better performance and 20 percent improved power efficiency compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the previous model. The phone could be equipped with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

In terms of optics, the Vivo X Fold 5 is expected to have three 50MP rear cameras: a primary IMX921 sensor, an ultra-wide lens, and a 3x periscope telephoto IMX882 sensor. It is also likely to have a 32MP camera on the front for selfies and video calling. Additionally, the device will boost the battery capacity from 5,500mAh to 6,000mAh. In addition, it will support 90W wired and 30W wireless charging.
Moreover, Vivo has confirmed that the foldable device meets several water and dust resistance ratings, including IPX8, IPX9, and IPX5. It will also support cross-platform features such as Apple Watch pairing, iCloud access, and dual-device interconnection with an iPhone.

Pre-orders for the Vivo X Fold 5 are now open on the official Vivo website. While the price remains undisclosed, the Vivo X Fold 3 launched at CNY 6,999 (approximately Rs. 83,200), which could offer a clue as to the pricing of the upcoming model.

Vivo continues to dominate as India's smartphone market grows modestly
India's smartphone market shipped 70 million smartphones in the first half of 2025, with a modest 0.9% growth YoY (year-over-year). The second quarter registered growth of 7.3% YoY, shipping 37 million smartphones, noted International Data Corporation (IDC). Vivo continues to lead the India smartphone market for the sixth consecutive quarter with a 19% share in Q2, 2025, followed by Samsung registering a growth of 21%. Oppo secured the third spot. Nothing registered the highest YoY growth of 84.9% followed by iQOO at 68.4%, Xiaomi lost 23.5% to slide to number five while Realme conceded 17.8% to reach fourth. OnePlus declined 39.4% YoY and sits on number 10 in the table. Apple maintained its strong performance, with shipments growing 21.5% YoY to 5.9 million units in the first half of 2025. The iPhone 16 was the highest-shipped model across India in 1H25, making up 4% of overall India shipments during that period. Apple came seventh in Q2 with a 7.5% market share. The ASPs have reached a record of $275 (nearly ₹24,000) in 2Q25, growing by 10.8% YoY. The entry level (sub-$100) witnessed a strong growth of 22.9% YoY to 16% share, up from 14% a year ago. Xiaomi led the segment with affordable Redmi A4 and A5 models. Shipments to the mass budget ($100<$200) segment grew by 1.1% YoY, as share declined from 44% to 42%. Vivo, Oppo and Realme continue to dominate the segment (together accounting for 60% share). The share of entry-premium ($200<$400) declined from 30% to 27%, a 2.5% YoY shipment decline. Vivo, Samsung and Oppo lead, while Motorola shipments grew multifold at fourth slot. The mid-premium segment ($400<$600) witnessed growth of 39.5%, while its share increased from 4% to 5% in 2Q25. Oppo and OnePlus were major gainers in this segment compared to 1Q25. The premium segment ($600<$800) registered the highest growth of 96.4%, with its share up from 2% to 4%. iPhone 16 and 15 together accounted for more than three fifths of the shipments in this segment. The super-premium segment ($800+) also grew by 15.8% and its share remained flat at 7%. Samsung surpassed Apple for the leadership position at 49% and 48% share respectively. iPhone 16, Galaxy S25, S24 Ultra, S25 and iPhone 16 Plus were key models in the segment. Qualcomm-based shipments grew by 37.6% YoY, at 33.9% share, while MediaTek's share declined to 44.3% from 56.1% on a shipment decline of 15.4% YoY in 2Q25. Shipments to offline channels grew by 14.3% YoY and share increased to 53.6%, while online channel shipments remained flat in 2Q25. The share of online channels dropped YoY to 46.4%, from 49.7% in 2Q24, while QoQ the share increased from 41.9% in 1Q25.
