Evan Rachel Wood says she's being recast for 'Practical Magic 2'
Evan Rachel Wood, who played Kylie, the daughter of Sally Owens in the 1998 film, revealed in a since-expired Instagram Stories statement that her character is being recast for the upcoming film, even though she wanted to come back.
USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Wood and Warner Bros. Pictures for comment.
"I was not asked to come back and be in the #PracticalMagic sequel," Wood told her followers, according to People and The Hollywood Reporter. "I offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are recasting."
The "Westworld" actress, 37, added, "I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters."
A sequel to "Practical Magic" was officially confirmed in June 2024, and production on the film is now underway. Bullock, 60, and Kidman, 58, who played sisters Sally Owens and Gillian Owens in the original movie, are both returning. Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing will also reprise their roles of Aunt Jet and Aunt Franny, respectively.
Susanne Bier ("Bird Box") is directing a script by Akiva Goldsman and Georgia Pritchett.
"Practical Magic" was one of the first movies that Wood appeared in as a child actor, and she has previously expressed interest in reprising her role. It is not immediately clear who will play Wood's character in "Practical Magic 2."
New cast members for the sequel include Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod. The movie, which Bullock and Kidman are also producing, is set for release on Sept. 18, 2026.

The Brazilian supermodel, 45, shared a recap of her summer via Instagram and included a few rare snaps with her baby son. Bündchen, who welcomed her baby boy in February with boyfriend Joaquim Valente, shared a snap of her holding him close to her chest and another holding his hand. "Thank you, summer, you've been so good to us! 💛 Obrigada, verão, você foi tão bom conosco." she wrote in her caption. In addition to her baby son, Bündchen is also a mom to daughter Vivian, 12, and son Benjamin, 15, whom she shares with ex-husband Tom Brady, 47. In February, news broke that Bündchen welcomed her third baby and her first with Valente. TMZ was first to report the news. At the time, no further details — including the sex and name of the baby — were revealed. Bündchen has been dating Valente, a Jiu-Jitsu instructor, since June 2023. After news broke that Bündchen was expecting again, a source close to the model exclusively told PEOPLE that she was 'excited to embrace this new chapter openly.' Bündchen 'received many positive messages and congratulations,' said the insider, adding that she 'wanted to keep it private for as long as she could, doing so was starting to be a challenge.' In May, she marked Mother's Day by sharing the first photos of her newborn on Instagram — though she still has not revealed his name. The mom of three also acknowledged that she has been "quiet" on social media since her son's birth was revealed earlier in the year, explaining that she's been living in the moment. "I've been quiet over here but very busy living life ... Sometimes, the most beautiful moments aren't shared — they're simply lived," she began in her post, adding, "Lately, I've been embracing the slower rhythms, the real connections, the beauty in the lessons that come with being present." Bündchen then shared several photos of herself with the new baby, the first of which featured her cradling the infant — who sported a white "I ❤️ Mom" onesie — against her chest. Paris Jackson's Family Rift Over Michael's $2 Billion Estate Deepens Amid Broken Engagement
Paris Jackson recently ended her nearly three-year relationship to fiancé Justin Long — and according to sources, the breakup was fueled by a growing storm of money, manipulation and family tensions. While the 27-year-old singer and model confirmed the split on July 31, Star has learned that the drama swirling around her has little to do with Long himself — and everything to do with the vast fortune left behind by her late father, Michael Jackson. The King of Pop died unexpectedly in 2009 at 50 years old. Despite reports that he was $500 million in debt at the time of his death, People states that his estate is now valued at around $2 billion. Contrary to popular belief, Star can confirm that Paris will not automatically inherit her portion of Michael's massive fortune when she turns 30. At some point in the future, Paris may receive a partial distribution of her inheritance, but for now, the estate's funds are being invested and managed by court approved executors. The real pressure on Paris is said to be coming from Michael's siblings — relatives who are not beneficiaries of the late pop star's estate but who see his only daughter as vulnerable and an easy target for undue influence. They cannot legally claim any of Michael's fortune for themselves, but they are believed to be urging Paris to push for greater access to estate funds, desperately hoping they might personally benefit if she succeeds. Adding to the intrigue is the role of Paris's personal attorney and business advisor, Craig Peters. Observers note there may be arrangements between them, with suggestions that he, too, could be angling for a piece of the Jackson fortune. Paris — who has faced personal struggles and admits she often leaves her financial affairs in the hands of her lawyer — may be unknowingly opening herself up to manipulation. This latest chapter comes on the heels of Paris marking five years of sobriety from alcohol and 'all drugs.' In a candid Instagram post earlier this year, Paris introduced herself as 'an alcoholic and a heroin addict.' 'To say that I'm thankful would be a poor euphemism. gratitude hardly scratches the surface,' Paris wrote in the post. 'It's because I'm sober that I get to smile today. I get to make music. I get to experience the joy of loving my dogs and cat. I get to feel heartbreak in all its glory. I get to grieve. I get to laugh. I get to dance. I get to trust. I feel the sun on my skin and it's warm. I've found that life keeps happening regardless of whether I'm sober or not, but today I get to show up for it.' Star has reached out to Paris's personal attorney, but he has not responded. Play Farm Merge Valley

Lil Nas X arrested, hospitalized after reportedly wandering streets of Los Angeles in his underwear
Rapper Lil Nas X was arrested and hospitalized after reportedly roaming Los Angeles wearing nothing but underwear and matching white cowboy boots. In a video shared by TMZ, the 'Old Town Road' rapper tells a nearby driver, 'Don't be late to the party tonight,' before singing as he struts down the middle of Ventura Boulevard. In another clip, he asks why someone is continuing to record him before resuming his singing. The rapper, born Montero Hill, posed several times throughout the video. At one point, he placed an orange traffic cone on his head. The celebrity gossip outlet reports that LAPD officers responded to the scene early Thursday morning and that Nas was put in handcuffs after 'charging at' police. He was reportedly transferred to a hospital over concerns about a possible overdose. An LAPD spokesperson told People that a suspect 'was booked for battery on a [peace officer],' declining to identify the musician. Law enforcement sources who spoke to NBC News said that Hill 'punched an officer twice in the face' before being arrested.
