Police execute NBW against Pocso case accused in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: The west all women police in the city on Saturday executed a non-bailable warrant against a 35-year-old man in connection with a Pocso case. The arrested person has been identified as M Riswan, 35, of Al-Ameen Colony at Ukkadam. In 2021, the west all women police (RS Puram) registered a Pocso case against Riswan. The case is under trial at the special court for Pocso cases in the city. While appearing for hearing in the case on June 27, Riswan pleaded innocent and ran out of the court hall, inviting contempt of the court. When police tried to apprehend him, Riswan created a ruckus by brandishing a blade and threatening to slit his throat. After four hours of struggle, police allowed him to leave the premises, fearing untoward incident. Subsequently, the Race Course police registered a case against Riswan, and the special court issued a non-bailable warrant against him. West all women police inspector Parimala Devi and her team arrested Riswan on Saturday and seized 10 razor blades from him. He was produced before the special court and was later remanded in judicial custody. He was lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.

Two held in Kutch with heroin worth Rs 58L

Rajkot: The Kutch East special operations group (SOG) arrested two men from Punjab— Kulvindersingh Hardevsingh (45) and 49-year-old Lakhvindersingh Gurnamsingh—for possession of heroin valued at Rs 58.08 lakh. The duo hail from Taran Taran district in Punjab. A case has been registered against the duo under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Gandhidham City B Division police station. The SOG recovered 116.16g of heroin and other items with total worth of over Rs 58 lakh during the operation. According to officials, Kulvindersingh was previously booked under the NDPS Act at the same police station in 2024. Acting on a specific tip-off that he had returned to Kutch with his accomplice to sell narcotics, SOG officials launched a targeted operation. The suspects were found standing suspiciously near a bush along the service road parallel to the national highway—between Gandhidham railway crossing and the ST bus station. On searching them, two pouches of heroin were discovered. Authorities have also launched a manhunt for another suspect Sukha, believed to be connected to the case. Forensic experts have been roped in to support the ongoing investigation.
