Jeremy Clarkson shares symptoms that led to 'days from death' diagnosis
Jeremy Clarkson has revealed he was 'days from death' after a terrifying health scare.
Writing in his Sunday Times column, the 64-year-old broadcaster detailed a string of sudden and severe symptoms that began during a holiday – signs he initially brushed off but which ultimately led to an ambulance ride, surgery, and a life-saving stent.
It all began, he says, with an ill-fated attempt to dive from a boat while on holiday. Mid-air, Clarkson second-guessed his abilities and tried to convert the dive into a jump, resulting in what he described as 'an almighty belly flop that caused pain 'you measure in acres.'
But more concerning was what followed: struggling to swim a short distance and arriving at the beach 'mostly dead.'
'I've never struggled with swimming before, and now, suddenly, I can't do it any more,' he wrote. Back on dry land, he found he could barely manage stairs without support.
'There's just no sense that my knees can handle the pressure,' he admitted, fearing he was heading toward 'a tumble.'
Once home, Clarkson's condition deteriorated further. He woke up one morning feeling 'clammy' with a tight chest, but ignored the signs and carried on with his day.
It was only after noticing pins and needles in his left arm that he decided to take action, and an ambulance was called.
Clarkson was rushed to hospital where he was told one artery was completely blocked and another was nearly closed.
'Days away? 'Maybe,' the doctor told him when asked how close he was to catastrophe.
He underwent an angioplasty, which involved inserting a wire through his wrist to explore the damage in his arteries. More Trending
'It's weird, lying there and feeling a metal pipe with a camera on the end wiggling its way round your shoulder and through your chest,' he wrote.
Fortunately, surgeons were able to avoid a full heart bypass and instead fitted a stent to keep the artery open.
Though he described the two-hour operation as 'not especially painful, just odd,' he made it clear just how close he came to disaster.
Now, safely back home and recovering, Clarkson is using his brush with death to try to implement a healthier lifestyle.

Jeremy Clarkson shares sad details of heart health scare that nearly killed him
Jeremy Clarkson has opened up about the health scare he endured last year while on holiday - which led to him requiring emergency surgery and the insertion of a stent Jeremy Clarkson has shared fresh details on a holiday incident that left him "days from death". The TV star was panicked in 2004 when a trip abroad resulted in a health scare. Jeremy, 65, suffered a health emergency in 2024 which resulted in emergency heart surgery, including the insertion of a stent. The Clarkson's Farm star was holidaying in the Indian Ocean when disaster struck. Now, almost a year on, the star has shed more light on his terrifying health emergency - revealing his ordeal began when he attempted to jump into the ocean. Having initially planned a graceful dive, he realised, mid-aid, that he would land awkwardly. He explained that he ended up performing a "belly flop" which then put a strain on his body as he tried to swim back to shore. Going into detail, he told the Sunday Times: 'When I finally reached the beach my lungs were full of water and I realised I can't do it anymore.' He was left fearing he would fall over, as he recalled: "There's just no sense that my knees can handle the pressure." He went on to recall awakening the next day feeling "clammy" and with a pain in his chest - but he ignored the symptom. After noticing pins and needles in his left arm, he decided to finally seek help and an ambulance was called. He was then rushed to hospital where he received emergency treatment. He said: 'It seems that of the arteries feeding my heart with nourishing blood, one was completely blocked and the second of three was heading that way.' Discussing just how close to death he had been, the star recalled a doctor telling him: "Days away? 'Maybe." The star then underwent an angioplasty, which is where a wire is inserting through the wrist to explore potentially damaged arteries. Recounting being conscious for the procedure, the star wrote: "It's weird, lying there and feeling a metal pipe with a camera on the end wiggling its way round your shoulder and through your chest." Surgeons fitted a stent to keep an artery open, meaning the star avoided the need for a full heart bypass. The star has explained he is now living a healthier lifestyle. Last year, Clarkson recounted in another column that he felt tightness in his chest and pins and needles in his left arm leading to his health diagnosis. He wrote at the time: 'I certainly wasn't having a heart attack. But if it hadn't looked that way, I never would have been sent to hospital.' He had also explained he sought help after noticing he couldn't make it up the stairs unaided, had struggled to swim, and needed to 'take a moment to make sure my limbs were working properly' when he stood up. He added: "These problems all manifested themselves in one day, which made the rest of my holiday extremely relaxing because all I did was sit in a chair drinking wine and eating chees."

A-ha's Morten Harket shares emotional statement after Parkinson's diagnosis
Morten Harket, the iconic frontman of 80s band A-ha, has announced that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The Norwegian band released a statement that read: 'This isn't the sort of news anyone wants to deliver to the world, but here it is: Morten has Parkinson's disease.' In an interview about the diagnosis on the band's official website that serves as Harket's statement on the matter, the 65-year-old said: 'I've got no problem accepting the diagnosis. With time I've taken to heart my 94-year-old father's attitude to the way the organism gradually surrenders: 'I use whatever works.'' He elaborated: 'Part of me wanted to reveal it. Like I said, acknowledging the diagnosis wasn't a problem for me; it's my need for peace and quiet to work that has been stopping me. I'm trying the best I can to prevent my entire system from going into decline. 'It's a difficult balancing act between taking the medication and managing its side effects. There's so much to weigh up when you're emulating the masterful way the body handles every complex movement, or social matters and invitations, or day-to-day life in general.' Later, when asked if he can still sing, he responded: 'I don't really know. I don't feel like singing, and for me that's a sign. I'm broadminded in terms of what I think works; I don't expect to be able to achieve full technical control.' A-ha is a Norwegian synth-pop band formed in Oslo in 1982, consisting of Morten Harket (vocals), Magne Furuholmen (keyboards), and Pål Waaktaar-Savoy (guitar). They rose to international fame with their 1985 debut album Hunting High and Low, which featured the iconic hit Take On Me, known for its innovative animated music video and Harket's falsetto vocals. More Trending The song became a global success, reaching number one in multiple countries, and remaining one of the most recognisable songs in the world to this day. While often associated with the 1980s, a-ha continued to release music and tour into the 21st century, building a loyal fanbase and evolving their sound. Notable later work include albums like Memorial Beach, Lifelines, and Cast in Steel. Despite several breakups and reunions, a-ha remains an influential and enduring act in pop music history. Harket has six children, three with his former wife Camilla Malmquist Harket, whom he divorced in 1998, a daughter with former girlfriend Anne Mette Undlien. and another daughter with his current partner Inez Andersson.
