Over 400,000 visitors at Lima '25, interest in national defence spurred
LANGKAWI: The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (Lima '25) ended on Saturday (May 24) recording an attendance of approximately 450,000 visitors from all commercial and business sectors, both domestic and international delegations, as well as the general public.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said this marks the Lima edition as a continuous platform and arena for sharing various ideas, the latest technologies, and strategic collaborations that are very important for the country.
"Even though the atmosphere is uncertain, with the rain like today, we still saw many people rushing into the exhibition hall to witness the technological developments being showcased.
"This year saw the participation of 860 exhibitors, a figure higher compared to Lima '23, consisting of 50% local exhibitors and 50% international exhibitors, a very commendable achievement," he said in his closing speech at Lima'25 at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) here.
Over the course of five days, Mohamed Khaled said Lima'25 also recorded 1,400 business-to-business (B2B) meetings and 920 business-to-government (B2G) sessions.
Therefore, he said, all these achievements provide a positive outlook on the development and future of the country's defence industry, thus becoming the nation's hope and reliance to reduce the country's dependence on external parties.
Apart from the commercial aspects and business transactions, the defence minister said LIMA'25 also expanded its vibrancy and excellence by recording an increase in the number of static asset exhibitions compared to previous editions.
In fact, for the first time, Lima '25 featured a high immersive experience dome, known as the A.T.M.O.S Sphere, which stands for Aerospace, Technology, Maritime, and Operations for Sustainability.
"This is a glimpse of how many more things we do not know in this world...and if we want to become a successful nation, we must have the value of always learning and uncovering things that are still unknown to us," he added.
A.T.M.O.S Sphere is a high-tech exhibition that uses 360-degree technology and audiovisual immersion to reflect Malaysia's aspirations to lead advancements in land, sea, air and beyond.
Lima '25 is organised by the Defence Ministry, in collaboration with Global Exhibitions and Conferences Sdn Bhd (GEC), and emphasises innovation and enhancing competitiveness among industry players in line with current technological developments.
This exhibition is the largest in the maritime and aerospace industry in Southeast Asia since it was first held in 1991. - Bernama

Perhebat helps veterans transition to civilian jobs
SUNGAI BULOH: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said around 72 per cent of veterans who completed transitional training programmes under the Ex-Servicemen Affairs Corporation (Perhebat) have secured employment. The Perhebat training programme provides a structured pathway to help retiring military personnel adapt to civilian life and employment by equipping them with new skills and knowledge. Khaled said those who completed the programme went on to become entrepreneurs or self-employed, while some secured jobs in the labour market. "If we look at the country's New Industrial Master Plan, by 2030, the nation aims to have six million skilled workers, and I believe many military personnel can fulfil that need," he said at the Dewan Jubli Perak, Kompleks Perhebat, Kem Sungai Buloh. Khaled said the Perhebat programme will continue to engage industry players by offering an experienced, skilled and competitive workforce, while remaining agile, open and performance-driven. While the employment rate's increase from last year is encouraging, there is still room for improvement, he said. "This means we must always be open to reviewing the content of the training, the curriculum used, and the transition training process. It must align with current market trends. It must be up to date and not outdated," Khaled added. In conjunction with the event, 3,473 Malaysian armed forces personnel completed the Transition Training programme, and 514 personnel and veterans received the Malaysian Skills Diploma.

514 MAF personnel, veterans awarded diplomas under R-PEL this year
SUNGAI BULOH: A total of 514 Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) personnel and veterans have been awarded the Malaysian Skills Diploma this year through the Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (R-PEL) programme. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin stated that the R-PEL initiative was introduced by the Ex-Servicemen Affairs Corporation (PERHEBAT) in 2017, allowing MAF personnel and veterans to obtain a diploma upon completing their service. According to him, R-PEL is a certification programme in collaboration with the Skills Development Department that recognises the experience, skills, and achievements of MAF veterans during their service, based on the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS). He said that MAF veterans can continue to contribute to the nation through various other means. 'The development of human capital and the socio-economic wellbeing of MAF veterans must be treated as a strategic priority that deserves serious attention,' he said when officiating the Malaysian Skills Diploma Award Ceremony under the R-PEL programme and the PERHEBAT Certificate presentation at Sungai Buloh Camp here today. Mohamed Khaled stated that PERHEBAT will continue to provide training, exposure, and skill development as part of its efforts to assist soon-to-retire MAF personnel, adding that this year alone, 3,473 MAF personnel nationwide completed transition training. He also urged PERHEBAT to ensure MAF veterans can live independently, securely and productively by providing robust and effective transition training. 'PERHEBAT must also enhance its engagement with the industry and job market and transform itself into a more agile, transparent and performance-driven institution,' he added. Meanwhile, the Defence Ministry, in a statement, said that Mohamed Khaled is expected to witness the signing of eight memoranda and notes of understanding between PERHEBAT and industry partners today in areas such as job placement, entrepreneurship opportunities, and training programmes. 'These MoUs and NoUs involve Boustead Petroleum Marketing (BHPetrol), the Johor Royal Military Force, Maxis Broadband, TAB Security, Kamatech Automotive & Engineering, Hexide Engineering, AMS Caddy Academy, and Nur Lembah Pangsun Eco Resort,' read the statement.
