I will not appeal, says Hisham
The former Umno vice-president said he first learnt about his suspension on Jan 27, 2023, through media reports and only received an official letter three days later.
'There was no explanation or reason given as to why I was suspended. Until now, I have not been told what my offence was,' he said on Instagram yesterday.
Hishammuddin said he was not allowed to defend himself or given a fair hearing by the disciplinary committee.
'I did not appeal because I was not given proper due process, and I did not want to give up on my principles. This is not a matter of (my Umno) membership, not about status, not about position. It is a matter of principle, integrity, sincerity and justice.'
It was reported on Monday that Umno would consider an appeal by any member subjected to party disciplinary action.

Akmal Salleh to be charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code in Penang on Friday
GEORGE TOWN: Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has confirmed that he will face court proceedings this Friday. In a post on his Facebook page, Akmal said he had been contacted by police and informed that he would be charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code. "However, I am currently performing the umrah in Mecca," he added. "Therefore, I will shorten my umrah and return to face the charge this Friday at the Bukit Mertajam magistrate's court at 8am. "If this is the price I must pay to uphold the sovereignty of the nation, I will not back down even an inch," he said. Section 505(b) of the Penal Code states that anyone who makes, publishes, or circulates any statement, rumour, or report with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public, whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the State or public tranquillity, shall be punished with imprisonment of up to two years, a fine, or both. Akmal ended his post by requesting prayers and stating: "See you in court this Friday." Last Thursday, Akmal led more than 300 Umno, Bersatu and Pas supporters on a 1.4km march carrying the Jalur Gemilang in a show of respect for the national flag. The gathering followed a recent controversy involving an upside-down Jalur Gemilang displayed at a hardware store in Kepala Batas. Early Saturday morning, Akmal completed giving his statement at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters over the assembly in Kepala Batas. His lawyer, Aizat Azam, said the Merlimau assemblyman had fully cooperated and answered all of the approximately 80 questions posed by the investigating officer.

MUDA unbowed by Zahid's intimidation tactics; demand DPM be reindicted for 47 graft charges
'WE will not be intimidated!' In an almost Churchillian declaration of defiance, MUDA has responded to a legal suit slapped on its secretary-general Ainie Haziqah Shafiee by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi. Zahid who is also UMNO president has previously sent a notice of claim to Ainie asking for an apology and damages. Media reports states that the notice was sent following Ainie's speech which criticised Zahid's prior corruption charges during the recent Turun Anwar rally. 'This is an action of a coward and a hyporcrite,' declared MUDA's acting president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz in a media conference at the Lawyers For Liberty (LFL) headquarters in Petaling Jaya yesterday (Aug 18). Arguing that this was an act of 'political intimidation', the Johor State Assembly member asked why the party's secretary-general was singled out when many others had voiced concerns of Zahid's perceived escape with a DNAA (dismissal not amounting to an acquittal) for his 47 graft charges. In the no-holds barred media session, Amira slammed the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition for failing to uphold its electoral promises. 'In every campaign video and ceramah during GE15 (15th General Election), Zahid was labelled as 'corrupt' but they now stand shoulder to shoulder, laughing, hugging and making official visits to each other's governmental departments,' she pointed out, quite unable to hide her contempt. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was also not spared as his anti-graft campaign was belittled as a mere sham. A clip of the media conference was shared on social activist and lawyer Siti Kasim's Facebook page with a one-worded message: 'SOKONG!! ' (Support). The originally TikTok video has been viewed 9.2K times with many commenters in full agreement while one openly declaring that 'nobody is above the law'. One commenter cast aspersions on enforcement agencies, in particular the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), insinuating unseen hands pulling levers to deceive the rakyat. Another commenter highlighted the seeming 'favouritism' within the current regime, insinuating selective persecution. A few concerned observers also pointed to the Sword of Damocles that hangs over Zahid's head. It is hard to imagine any other country where such a scenario could exist, they pointed out. However, one commenter did ask the pertinent question – why was MUDA silent when now incarcerated former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak was getting away with his 1MDB corruption scandal? Another quickly clarified that the former 10-term Pekan MP's 1MDB-related case is still in progress. Furthermore, MUDA has been slapped with a suit by Zahid instead of Najib. Another wondered if other DNAA cases should be re-opened, notably that of now Sabah governor Tun Musa Aman. All said and done, it remains to be seen if MUDA has the political clout for to get the corruption case against the DPM reinstated. Brazil asks Meta to remove chatbots that 'eroticise' children
BRASILIA: Brazil's government has asked United States technology giant Meta to rid its platforms of chatbots that mimic children and can make sexually suggestive remarks, the attorney-general's office (AGU) announced yesterday. Users of Meta's platforms, which include Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, can create and customise such bots using the company's generative artificial intelligence, AI Studio. The AGU said in a statement that Meta must "immediately" remove "artificial intelligence robots that simulate profiles with childlike language and appearance and are allowed to engage in sexually explicit dialogue". It denounced the "proliferation" of such bots in what it called an "extrajudicial notice" sent to Meta last week, adding that they "promote the eroticisation of children". The document cited several examples of sexually charged conversations with bots pretending to be minors. The AGU's request does not include sanctions, but the agency said it had reminded Meta that online platforms in Brazil must take down illicit content created by their users, even without a court order. It comes at a time of outrage in the South American nation over a case of alleged child sexual exploitation by Hytalo Santos, a well-known influencer who posted content on Instagram featuring partially naked minors taking part in suggestive dances. Santos was arrested last week as part of an investigation into "exposure with sexual connotations" to adolescents, and his Instagram account is no longer available. In June, Brazil's Supreme Court voted to require tech companies to assume greater responsibility for user-generated content.
