Star Awards 2025: Chantalle Ng thanks fellow host Guo Liang for saving the day when she blanked out on stage
One thing we love about Chantalle Ng is how she has no qualms calling herself out. All eyes were on the 30-year-old Mediacorp actress when she hosted last Sunday's (Jul 6) Star Awards with Guo Liang. She was poised and expressive, her efforts were very applaudable for someone with zero hosting experience. In fact, we didn't even notice Ng had an 'oops' moment on stage until she pointed it out herself on social media. Ng and Liang were supposed to introduce the presenters for the Best Drama Serial award. Guo Liang started with: "Our next guests are all A-listers. They're the Ah Ge Ah Jies everyone's familiar with. They are..." It is assumed that Ng was supposed to finish Guo Liang's sentence by naming Zoe Tay, Li Nanxing and Fann Wong. But for some reason, Ng says she blanked out and didn't say anything. Thankfully, Guo Liang quickly caught on to what was happening and completed the sentence. Though that moment lasted less than a second, it left a deep enough impression on Ng. "When your co-host blanks out and forgets to announce the presenters, this is how Liang Ge saves the day," the actress wrote on her Instagram story. She also added an embarrassed smiling emoji. We think she's being too hard on herself. We're also not the only ones who think Ng deserves a pat on her back for her performance that night. Singaporean voice actor Zhang Miaoyang, who is a vocal coach at Chinese TV station Phoenix Television as well as the Chairman of the Hong Kong Language Arts Association, took to social media to praise Ng's hosting abilities. "Her Mandarin pronunciation, fluency in the language as well as her elegance and gracefulness caught our eyes. On top of acting, she's definitely a rising star in radio and hosting too," effused Zhang.

Chow Yun Fat's low-key S'pore visit ahead of Star Awards sparks fan buzz, lifts eatery sales
Hong Kong veteran actor Chow Yun Fat was recently spotted out and about across Singapore in the lead-up to the Star Awards 2025, which took place on July 6. The 69-year-old star, who is married to Singaporean Jasmine Tan, arrived in the country several days earlier. One of his stops was local eatery Legendary Bak Kut Teh. On the evening of July 4, netizens recognised him at the South Bridge Road outlet of the popular restaurant chain. The restaurant's owner, Chua Chui Chui, expressed her gratitude for the celebrity's visit, describing Chow as "a benefactor to our family". Videos shared on Xiaohongshu showed Chow dressed in black, wearing a cap and a face mask, quietly entering the restaurant with his wife, who was also dressed in black. Chow and his wife were seen entering the restaurant. SCREENGRAB: SMILE/XIAOHONGSHU A familiar face at Legendary Bak Kut Teh In an interview with Shin Min Daily News on July 6, Ms Chua shared that Chow is a long-time fan of their signature bak kut teh, as well as side dishes such as beancurd skin, preserved vegetables, and pig trotters. "Everyone knows him as the legendary 'God of Gamblers,' and coincidentally, our English name is 'Legendary Bak Kut Teh.' It feels like fate." Although this was Chow's first visit to the South Bridge Road outlet, Ms Chua said he had previously visited her father's original stall, most recently before the pandemic. "He would sometimes take away food, so we consider him a regular customer. "When my father first started the business, things were tough - he could barely sell a few bowls a day. Then Chow came with director Ang Lee, and he must have really liked our local flavors. "He helped spread the word. After that, other celebrities, especially from Hong Kong, began to visit. Business gradually picked up. We are truly thankful to him." Business surging for Bak Kut Teh restaurant Unfortunately, Ms Chua and her father were at another outlet that evening and missed seeing Chow in person. Only her daughter, Wong Rui Yu (transliterated), happened to be at the branch Chow visited. "Chow was very warm and called my daughter over to chat," Ms Chua recounted. "He asked about my father and our business. He was genuinely happy to see our family business passed down to the third generation. "My daughter was a little starstruck, but he was so down-to-earth. He even took photos with other customers without hesitation. We were really moved. His presence brought a boost to our business." "My father misses him and is grateful," Ms Chua added. "If we had known earlier, he would've gone down to the restaurant just to see him. But everything happened so quickly that night, and we were too busy at the other outlet to make it in time." Ms Chua revealed that following Chow's visit, business surged the next day (July 5). The branch he visited saw a 30 per cent increase in customers, while their other location also experienced a 20 per cent spike in traffic. Chow visits Ya Kun Kaya Toast Besides his visit to Legendary Bak Kut Teh, Chow was also spotted at local breakfast chain Ya Kun Kaya Toast. In a post on the brand's Instagram page on July 9, he is seen smiling with staff. The caption read: "Star power meets kopi power!". They added: "Humble, warm and just like our kaya toast - timeless. What a moment to remember!" Running into fans while jogging at Sentosa Fans also encountered Chow jogging at Palawan Beach in Sentosa. On July 7, a netizen posted selfies with him, captioning: "I was very lucky to have met Fa Ge. He remains cool, handsome, and very approachable."

Star Awards 2025: Top 10 winner Hong Ling says family, and not work, is her priority now
After winning the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes award, guess what were the three things running through Hong Ling's mind? The 30-year-old Mediacorp star, who was also nominated for Best Actress for playing an ill-fated policewoman in Unforgivable, brought home her fourth Top 10 trophy at the Star Awards on Sunday (Jul 6). When Hong Ling happily pranced on stage to receive her award from guest presenter Chow Yun Fat, he surprisingly pulled her towards him. According to Hong Ling, he whispered to her: "You know there's a song called 'Cai Hong Ling'". Basically, poking fun at the actress' name. Needless to say, Fat Gor's unexpected gesture made her night. "I thought: 'Eh, he's really so friendly. He joked with me after hearing my name. I was quite happy because I was the only one who got that interaction," she said to She revealed that she was starving as she didn't have dinner and she couldn't wait to have a post-win feast. "I'm going to eat Haidilao. I also want McSpicy and McNuggets. But not all in the same night lah. I'm going to stagger, one day eat one," she laughed. On the topic of celebrating, how is she planning to thank her fans? "Every time I win, I'll take them out for a meal to reward them. This is fan-service, but I don't know where I would bring them. I'll let them decide," she shared. We jokingly asked if she would be game enough to cook for them, and Hong Ling surprisingly liked that idea. "Nick and I just got a new house. Though I don't want to reveal our address, but that's a very good idea, maybe I can cook for them because I enjoy cooking," she said. Speaking of Nick (Teo, her husband), would Hong Ling have to comfort him given how he went home empty-handed again this year? "I don't think so," she said. "This voting thing is really so tough. Even I'm not confident I can win! I think he can try again. There's always next year". She's also unbothered about being arguably the 'high-achiever' in their relationship because their priority now isn't work. "Our priority is family, so work is secondary. It's not as important," she said. It's been a tough year for Ling, whose mum passed away in February this year. She also suffered a miscarriage 11 weeks into her pregnancy in the same month. We asked if she was hoping to win an award and that it must feel like a morale boost. "Honestly, no. This year, I surprisingly wasn't yearning for an award that much because I realised there are too many things going on. Plus I've been going overseas very often and was working a lot, so I was very distracted," she said. She also wasn't hopeful she was going to win anything. "I thought it was going to be [like in 2023] when I didn't get Best Actress. I also didn't get into the Top 10. After losing Best Actress this time, I told myself: 'Okay, maybe that award won't be mine," she said. Ling said she gave up hope getting into the Top 10 when the eighth name was called. Hers was the ninth name to be announced. "When I really got it, I was so happy!" she said. Was she disappointed about not getting Best Actress again though? In case you forgot, she was also a hot favourite for the award two years ago when she was nominated for Your World In Mine. "I actually harboured hopes of winning for Your World In Mine but this time I didn't. In my heart I knew, I didn't do that well in this show. The audience may not be able to tell but we know it ourselves," she said. "Though many people liked the role I played, even predicted that I would win. I was very touched when I saw it because I didn't even think this role would get nominated," she added.
