KRG to start salary payments Sunday

Shafaq News – Erbil
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) will begin distributing public sector salaries on Sunday as part of the first phase of a new revenue-sharing agreement with Baghdad.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source from the KRG Ministry of Finance and Economy told Shafaq News that the KRG will transfer 120B IQD (about $85.3M) in local revenue to the Federal Ministry of Finance via the Central Bank's Erbil branch. In exchange, Baghdad is expected to release 960B IQD ($682.3M) on Monday to cover May salaries, which will be disbursed between Tuesday and Thursday.
The same process, the source noted, will apply to June wages: another 120B IQD will be sent to Baghdad next Sunday, triggering a second 960B IQD transfer to fund that month's salaries later in the week.
Regarding July payments, the source confirmed the KRG aims to begin partial disbursements in early August, pending the outcome of further talks with Baghdad on long-term revenue transfers, oil exports, and salary scheduling.
The agreement follows a high-level meeting last Thursday between Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and President Abdul Latif Rashid, where both reviewed plans to end the financial standoff with the Kurdistan Region.

By John Lee. Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has chaired a high-level meeting to review progress on implementing Cabinet Decision No. 320 of 2022, which allows the conversion of state-owned agricultural land into residential plots. The meeting included advisors and officials from Baghdad Municipality and state property departments, and focused on streamlining procedures for issuing land deeds to current residents based on approved designs and legal frameworks. Al-Sudani praised the efforts of the specialised committee overseeing the process and called for accelerating deed issuance, offering flexible payment methods, and considering supplementary decisions to improve implementation. The session also reviewed areas where deed issuance has been completed and others still undergoing administrative processing. (Source: PMO)

Israel kills displaced journalist in central Gaza

Shafaq News – Gaza An Israeli airstrike on central Gaza killed journalist Adam Abu Harbid on Thursday, after a missile struck the tent where his displaced family had been sheltering in the Yarmouk area of Gaza City. According to Palestinian media outlets, Abu Harbid's children were injured in the same strike, with varying degrees of wounds. The killing comes amid ongoing Israeli strikes that have repeatedly targeted media workers. Just a day earlier, Israeli forces reportedly killed pregnant journalist Walaa al-Jaabari, her husband Amjad al-Shaer, and their five children in a strike described as so powerful it expelled the unborn child from her womb. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate reported that 35 journalists were killed in Gaza between January and the end of June 2025 alone. Since the beginning of the war in Gaza on October 7, 2023, the syndicate says Israeli forces have killed a total of 229 journalists. عاجل| استشهاد الصحفي آدم أبو هربيد في قصف الاحتلال خيمة عائلته في منطقة اليرموك وسط مدينة غزة — شبكة قدس الإخبارية (@qudsn) July 24, 2025
