'Peaky Blinders' creator to write 007 reboot

Steven Knight, the creator of gritty TV crime series Peaky Blinders, will write the highly anticipated next James Bond movie, studio Amazon MGM announced Thursday. Knight will work alongside previously announced director Denis Villeneuve (Dune) to bring the world's most famous fictional spy back to the big screen after a prolonged absence. Amazon MGM Studios acquired creative control of the 007 movies in February, and has moved quickly to get one of Hollywood's most valuable franchises back into production. There has been no new Bond film since 2021's No Time To Die. Knight is best known as the mind behind violent British gangster series Peaky Blinders, which was set in industrial England at the turn of the 20th century and became a global hit. Running for six seasons, and with a Netflix film version currently in the works, Peaky Blinders turbo-charged the careers of leading man Cillian Murphy, alongside a stellar supporting cast including Tom Hardy, Anya Taylor-Joy and Kingsley Ben-Adir. In addition to Peaky Blinders, Knight also co-created the wildly popular television quiz show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and has penned four novels. The Birmingham, England-based screenwriter, producer and director's other TV credits include Taboo, See, This Town, and All the Light We Cannot See. The Bond films, based on Ian Fleming's novels, have earned more than USD7 billion collectively at the global box office since debuting in 1962. No release date or title has yet been set for the film franchise's 26th instalment. And despite frenzied speculation among fans, there has been no announcement on which actor will replace Daniel Craig as the suave British super-spy. Among the actors most discussed to be the next Bond are Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Holland, Harris Dickinson, Jacob Elordi, and Ben-Adir - but Amazon MGM has so far refused to disclose the franchise's most closely guarded secret.

Ryan Gosling previews Project Hail Mary at Comic-Con with first look at alien bond

At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Ryan Gosling presented early footage from Project Hail Mary, Amazon MGM's upcoming space survival epic based on the novel by Andy Weir. Gosling was joined by directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, screenwriter Drew Goddard, and Weir himself. The preview began with Gosling's character, Ryland Grace, waking from cryogenic sleep aboard a deserted spacecraft. Alone and disoriented, Grace's journey soon takes a dramatic turn when he encounters Rocky, a spider-like alien rendered through a blend of puppetry and digital animation. Their unlikely bond forms the emotional core of the film. Gosling, who also serves as a producer, spoke about his connection to the material, describing it as 'funny, heartbreaking, and hopeful.' He credited Weir's storytelling for blending emotion and science in a way that felt both personal and cinematic. The film also stars Sandra Hüller, Milana Vayntrub, Lionel Boyce, and Ken Leung. For Lord and Miller, Project Hail Mary marks their return to feature directing after more than a decade. The movie is slated for theatrical release on March 20, 2026, and aims to blend intelligent science fiction with deeply human storytelling.

Tom Bateman cast as male lead in 'The Love Hypothesis' movie opposite Lili Reinhart

Tom Bateman has been cast as the male lead in The Love Hypothesis, the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film adaptation of Ali Hazelwood's best-selling romance novel. The casting has caught attention for a surprising real-life link to the book's fanfiction origins: Bateman is married to Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley, the original inspiration behind the female protagonist. The book began as a Star Wars fanfiction titled Head Over Feet, which centred on the Reylo pairing—Ridley's Rey and Adam Driver's Kylo Ren. Published in 2018 on Archive of Our Own, the story was later reworked into a standalone romance. Hazelwood confirmed Adam Carlsen, the male lead Bateman will play, was named in homage to Adam Driver. Nods to the book's origins came fast after Bateman's casting. Amazon MGM posted, 'Hypothesis: Tom Bateman is the perfect Adam Carlsen,' while fans lit up X with commentary linking the real-life couple to their fictional counterparts. One post read, 'Fanfiction version of Daisy Ridley's space husband being her real-life husband.' Bateman will star opposite Lili Reinhart, who plays Olive Smith, a PhD candidate who enters a fake dating scenario with Carlsen. The couple's chemistry mirrors that of Rey and Kylo's fraught alliance in The Rise of Skywalker. Bateman and Ridley met in 2017 during filming of Murder on the Orient Express. Their off-screen connection now circles back to a fandom that's followed them for years—only this time, on a very different kind of screen.
