Line of Duty fans can finally watch ITV's 'thrilling' new drama

Metro04-05-2025
The widely praised thriller, Malpractice, has finally landed on ITVX for a second season with a fresh cast.
The first season, which came out in 2023, gripped the nation with the tale of Dr Lucinda Edwards (Niamh Algar), a doctor who finds herself at the centre of a medical investigation when 'a conspiracy starts swirling'.
As her professional and personal life careens towards disaster, the five-episode drama doesn't hold back with fast-paced twists and turns after one of Dr Lucinda's overdose patients dies in her care.
The show scored an impressive 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, with fans praising it as 'watchable' and 'enjoyable' – and it's right up the alley for Line of Duty fans looking for a new show to fill their time.
One critic praised it as 'excellently well paced' and another who applauds the show for having 'something new to say'.
Now, the series has come back for a second run with a completely different scandal as Niamh exits the show, created and written by former NHS Doctor Grace Ofori-Attah (who is also the person behind the ITV show Playing Nice).
In season two, Helen Behan and Jordan Kouamé return as the Medical Investigation Unit (MIU), this time investigating Dr James Ford, played by Victoria star Tom Hughes.
The synopsis reads: 'When on-call Psychiatric Registrar Dr James Ford is caught between an anxious new mother's postnatal check-up and the sectioning of a psychotic patient, no one could predict the devastating outcome.'
Despite a 'messy' personal life and 'arrogant' personality Dr Ford seems committed to his vulnerable patients and as the investigation deepens, a hospital 'seemingly at war with itself' is uncovered among the debris.
The synopsis concludes: 'With the MIU investigation closing in, can Dr Ford save his already fragile career from a string of apparently damning mistakes?
'Is Dr Ford a doctor with a God complex, or a victim of the institution? And can the MIU uncover the truth of what happened, despite hostility from all sides?'
The new season also features stars from across several beloved procedural thrillers including Blue Light's Hannah McClean, Top Boys' Seraphina Beh , Happy Valley's Rick Warden and Line of Duty's Ace Bhatti.
In a statement about the upcoming episodes, Tom said: 'I couldn't be more delighted to be playing James and helping bring to life Grace's pertinent and important piece [of writing], which stopped me in my tracks when I read it.
'I hope the audience, when they see it, are equally as gripped and engaged by it, as I was.'
The first season became the most watched launch episode on ITV that year with 6.7m viewers based on 28-day viewing and received wide-ranging critical acclaim. More Trending
The Guardian's four-star review called it 'intricately plotted and beautifully, leanly written' and Radio Times dubbed it 'gripping, tense and deeply engaging'.
Malpractice airs tonight on ITV1 at 9pm. Seasons one and two are available to stream in their entirety now on ITVX.

Winner of the Richard Madeley lookalikey 2026 revealed- can you tell?

Will the real Richard Madeley please stand up? We've seen a hundred Timothee Chalamets in New York, we've had TV bad boy Danny Dyer in Soho Square, now it is the turn of Middle England hearthrob Richard Madeley to have his lookalike competition in the outskirts of Stockport. Hundreds queued around the block to watch the attempted reincarnations of the Good Morning Britain iconoclast compete at the highest level and maybe confuse poor Judy at Alexandra Park in Edgeley on Sunday. It started as a joke when a single poster offering themed prizes for the top three Good Morning Britain impersonators was stuck up in the suburbs of Stockport. But it became reality when locals expressed so much interest the organiser, Mrs Jones' realised she would have to go through with it. One entrant said: 'It was a laugh. The first prize was a giant inflatable champagne bottle, second prize was a selection of Richard & Judy books. But I don't think anyone was in it for the winnings.' After hours of deliberation, the winner was finally declared – congratulations Larry, a pug in an unmistakably wavy Richard wig. Another entrant said on Reddit: 'I didn't even place. ITV Granada interviewed me though and I simply said the pug had more game than me.' They added: 'To all the people saying this should be an annual event, it's happening next summer as well. I believe the names thrown about were Deirdre Barlow or Luke Littler.' The real Richard Madeley reportedly faced the axe from Good Morning as ITV issued sweeping changes to its daytime programming. The 69-year-old host has been a staple of the morning news show since 2017 alongside co-host Susanna Reid and was said to be receiving a lucrative £300k salary for the gig before this 'bloodbath'. On ITV Richard shared a candid insight into his 35-year marriage with fellow TV icon Judy. Recounting moments of strain in his relationship, he said: 'Well, I mean, sometimes, you'd have a row. And you'd get to work not talking. But the show was a cure.' 'I mean, it wasn't, like, false, you actually did genuinely have to come on and do the double act. You would find that within maybe 15, 20 minutes of going on air.' 'You'd just forgotten all about it because you were both focusing on the job. And so it was a very good way of processing a row.' David Haye to face awkward 'grilling' as I'm A Celeb bosses line him up for All Stars spin off

ITV bosses have reportedly offered boxing champ David Haye a spot on the next season of I'm A Celeb's All Stars spin off - with one major topic expected to be discussed around the campfire I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! is planning to add boxing champ David Haye to their knockout line-up of the next All Stars spin-off season. The former heavyweight champ, 44, first appeared on the long-running ITV reality show's twelfth season back in 2012. ‌ And he may be returning to the jungle as one of the All Star contestants for the spin-off series that sees past participants return for another round of stomach churning trials. The first season of the All Stars version, titled I'm a Celebrity... South Africa, aired in 2023 with Myleene Klass being crowned winner. ‌ And now a string of popular former contestants are being lined up for a second trip to the outback - with David among the top names wanted to take part in the series. He came third when he participated in the series the last time behind winner Charlie Brooks, of EastEnders fame, and Pussycat Dolls runner-up Ashley Roberts. ‌ Since then, David's foray into the world of media stardom has seen him appear in shows including The Big Narstie Show and his own David Haye versus series, which saw him interview and train with major celebrities. A source told The Sun: 'David was delighted to get the call from ITV. As viewers know, no chats are off-limits around the campfire, so they can expect to see David grilled over his quirky relationships.' The Mirror has contacted representatives of David and ITV for comment. It is expected that the new season of the ITV show will begin filming in the autumn months when a string of other former contestants will return to the wilderness to survive on basic rations. Football icon Harry Redknapp, 78, who won in 2018, and Gemma Collins, 44, who quit the show after three days in 2014, are among names linked to the new season. A number of familiar faces are expected to jet to Australia in November to film the next season of the main I'm A Celeb series. It will be the 25th outing of the show - which first aired way back in 2002. ‌ Hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly will travel Down Under to preside over all the terrifying trials and encourage the celebs to eat revolting meals and drinks. The 2024 season of the show was won by McFly singer Danny Jones. But the 39-year-old singer has had a difficult few months since he was crowned the king of the jungle. He was shamed in March when video footage emerged of him locking lips with fellow I'm A Celeb 2024 contestant Maura Higgins, of Love Island fame. The footage sparked shock among his fans - who have championed his marriage to beauty contestant Georgia Horsley - a former Miss England winner. The couple have been an item since 2009 and they have been married since 2014. ‌ They also welcomed a son named Cooper who was born in 2018. Danny offered a groveling apology to his wife which he issued via social media soon after his extramarital kiss went viral. In a statement, the McFly singer said: "Hello everyone, sorry it's taken me a while to post this but I've taken some time out to be with those closest to me. I want to deeply apologise to my wife and family for putting them in this situation. I love them so much and we'll continue to deal with this privately. "I love you guys, thank you for your patience, understanding, and support. See you all soon, Danny." Meanwhile, a source close to Danny revealed at the time that he was "mortified" by what happened as well as the "awful situation he has put everyone in".

Just hours into their first day, a huge row erupted between the cast which led to a number of the stars being held back as the confrontation went a step too far. 7 A huge row kicked off on TOWIE Credit: ITV 7 Sophie Kasaei and Freddie Bentley were inches away from each other's faces Credit: ITV 7 The clash quickly escalated Credit: ITV The drama appeared to be caused over Freddie Bentley and Ella Rae Wise's disdain for certain members of the group failing to support her during her stint in the Celebrity Big Brother house earlier this year. Freddie had sent a group chat message to encourage the cast to post in support of Ella in order to conjure up votes for her stay in the famous house. But with many of them choosing not to, it left a sour taste in Ella and her best pal Freddie's mouths. The main targets of the pair's frustrations appeared to be Jordan Brook and his Geordie Shore star girlfriend, Sophie Kasaei. As Freddie and Ella spoke about the situation, Jordan could overhear them and soon attempted to get involved by moving closer. Tensions began to reach boiling point as Freddie ranted at Jordan. Jordan insisted that his loyalty to Ella's ex Dan Edgar had prevented him from supporting Ella. Ella soon made a reference to Sophie by saying that she would not be happy if Jordan went "on a bender" - implying that's what Dan had done. As Sophie joked back that she wouldn't care, Ella hit back: "Yeah, because you are desperate!" Clearly wound-up, Jordan insisted "don't call my bird desperate" as Ella attempted to walk off. Towie's Dani Imbert speaks for first time about snogging two Love Island boys in one night - after BOTH lads are dumped for cheating Ella and Sophie then began to scream at each other from across the pool as they clashed over Ella's remarks as she insisted Sophie was old and irrelevant. Things were only just beginning as Freddie branded Jordan the problem, leading to a three-way confrontation between him and the loved-up couple. Freddie said: "You all deserve this - you deserve to be told about yourselves." Turning to Sophie, he added: "If you don't care, then go away then! 7 Freddie Bentley appeared to be led away by security as Junaid Ahmed appeared Credit: ITV 7 The face-off occurred just moments into the group trip Credit: ITV "Don't stand there and try and speak to me!" Sophie then got very close to Freddie's face as he barked back at her: "What are you gonna do about it - you f*** off!" Stepping in, Jordan then came into Freddie's face and then launched his body at his co-star to push him out of the way. As Freddie stumbled, Jordan appeared to take another lunge at him as Freddie asked: "Who are you pushing?" The cameras then appeared to cut to a group setting as the scuffle could be heard contiuning out of sight. It seemed other cast members had got involved as a security guard's arm could be seen holding Freddie back as Junaid Ahmed also appeared to be escorted away from the scene. Sophie later ranted that they were "so rude" to her face as Jordan bluntly remarked: "Yeah I nearly chinned Freddie but I'm alright." 7 Sophie slammed Ella in an explosive rant Credit: ITV
