At least 3 shot, 1 killed in Denver in 2 overnight shootings
The first one occurred just before 8 a.m. near 22nd Street and Glenarm Place. The victim in that shooting was pronounced dead at the scene, but police don't have suspect information in that shooting either.
The second one was reported around 4 a.m. near West 6th Avenue and Knox Court. At least two people were shot. Police don't know the extent of their injuries and are working to develop information about the suspect or suspects.
CBS News Colorado reached out to Denver police for more information about these shootings on Sunday morning, but didn't immediately receive a response.

Rachel Morin's mother reflects 2 years after daughter was found murdered off Maryland trail
Patty Morin remembers the moment she learned that her daughter, Rachel Morin, a Maryland mother of five, was found dead off a popular Harford County walking trail. Wednesday marked two years since the 37-year-old's body was found brutally murdered in a drainage culvert along the Ma & Pa Trail on August 6, 2023. "I'll never forget the words," Patty Morin told WJZ. "It's been two years, but he said, and I quote, 'Mrs. Morin, this is Det. Goldin. There's no easy way to tell you this, but we found your daughter's body.'" Victor Martinez-Hernandez, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, was convicted of Morin's murder. He will be sentenced at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 11, at the Harford County Circuit Court. Patty Morin says she looks forward to the sentencing, so her daughter's killer can get what he deserves, and her family can move forward, celebrating Rachel Morin the way she deserves. "She wasn't a perfect person, but she was a lovely person," Patty Morin said. "She was very kind and gentle, very loving, and she genuinely cared about other people." Martinez-Hernandez will not be deported back to his home country of El Salvador, but rather fulfill his sentence in Maryland. For the past two years, Patty Morin has been consumed by the death of her daughter. She questions how Rachel Morin became the victim of a horrific attack. "These last two years have been, for lack of a better word, a journey from those moments of disbelief that something like this could happen, to questions about what happened," Morin said. On August 5, 2023, Rachel Morin was reported missing by her children and her boyfriend after she went for a jog on the trail and never returned. Her vehicle was located at the trailhead, and she was found off the trail, raped and murdered. The murder trial in April revealed Rachel Morin was texting with her children until 7:04 p.m. on August 5, 2023, and was then never heard from again. "It shook the community. I think this crime really shook the community," said Harford County State's Attorney Alison Healey, who led the prosecution against Martinez-Hernandez, an El Salvador native. Martinez-Hernandez was arrested 10 months later, in June 2024, at a bar in Oklahoma. Martínez-Hernández's DNA was found on nearly every piece of evidence collected at the murder scene, and it took a jury less than an hour to find him guilty of Morin's rape and murder. "Our first and only goal in this whole case was to get justice for Rachel and for her family," Healey said. "For her children, her siblings, for her mom, for everybody who loved and cared about her. So at this point, we just want to make sure we get the justice she deserves for this horrific crime."

Cook County Sheriff substation still not open in South Loop, despite planned June launch
A Cook County Sheriff's substation was supposed to open in the South Loop near the Roosevelt CTA Red Line stop on June 1, but hasn't even as the area continues to struggle with violent crime. The substation is marked, but not up and running yet. The Cook County Sheriff's Office said they have a presence in the area, but did not say when the substation's doors would open. A 16-year-old girl was stabbed Tuesday night just feet from the Red Line stop and where the substation is supposed to be. Chicago police said the stabbing started as an argument, and the teen was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. "This area of the South Loop has a been a problematic area for a long time, so we tried to be creative and see how we can bring more resources to this area. So I asked the Cook County Sheriff for help," said 34th Ward Alderman Bill Conway. The substation was supposed to be operable in early June, but now in early August it still isn't. "I will say I do appreciate the sheriffs are operational. They are working on it. And I do hope we can get it open as soon as possible," Conway said. According to the sheriff's office, "as soon as possible" could be as soon s Monday, saying in a statement that they are already patrolling the area and, "We are engaged in ongoing conversations with local residents, business owners, and elected officials regarding concerns about crime." Another Chicago substation for the sheriff's office in River North has focused on specific crimes like carjackings, car thefts and retail theft. "This sheriff's office is really going to be looking at overall crime, but specially looking what's going on in the Jewel parking lot here as well as at this L station as well, where there's been a lot of problems over the years," Conway said. The sheriff's office said that despite public perception, crime is down in the South Loop compared to last year. A spokesperson for the sheriff's office said as of July 29, 2025 there have been 88 reported violent crimes in the Near South Side community area, down from 100 in the same time period in 2024, 108 in 2023 and 117 in 2022. The sheriff's office said when adjusted for population, the Near South Side saw 33 violent crimes per 10,000 people, which is below the citywide average of 57 crimes per 10,000 people. The Sheriff's Office is finalizing the installation of infrastructure at the South Loop substation and is working to open the location as soon as Monday. This space was offered to us as it was vacant and the community requested our presence in the area. We are engaged in ongoing conversations with local residents, business owners, and elected officials regarding concerns about crime. Even though the substation is not officially open, we have been assigning officers to patrol in the area. We look forward to our partnership with the community and addressing crime and quality of life concerns, as we are doing at our substations in Austin, Auburn Gresham, River North, Water Tower Place, and One Chicago.
