Kangana Ranaut's drugs remark angers Punjab Minister, says check Gujarat first

India Today26-07-2025
Member of Parliament from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh and Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut has stirred controversy with her recent comments on drug issues in Himachal Pradesh, drawing sharp criticism from Punjab's AAP Minister Harpal Cheema.Kangana, while speaking on the rising drug menace, warned that Himachal Pradesh could soon face a situation similar to Punjab, where, according to her, 'many villages are having widowed women.' She claimed that drugs from Pakistan and Punjab are corrupting the youth of Himachal.advertisement'We are getting reports from Himachal that some men sell household items and lock themselves inside houses due to this menace,' Kangana stated.
Reacting strongly to her remarks, Punjab Cabinet Minister Harpal Cheema said, 'I would say that Kangana Ranaut must keep control herself. She just wants to be in the media. She has no knowledge about even basic things. Many states are much ahead of Punjab. Much more drugs are consumed in Gujarat. Kangana Ranaut must go to Gujarat first and check how drugs are supplied from its ports.'This is not the first time Kangana has faced backlash from Punjab. During the farmers' agitation, she was heavily criticised by farmers, political parties, and Punjabi singers for her comments against the protesting farmers.- EndsTrending Reel

Ammy Virk completes 10 years as an actor: Now we are approached to play heroes, not just a Sardar character in Bollywood

Ammy Virk recently completed a decade in the industry as an actor, and talking about it in his signature quirky style, he quips, 'Ab to senior si feeling aa rahi hai. Pata hi nahi chala ki kab time nikal gaya but pyaar bahut zyada mila hai.' The actor-singer states that it has been an amazing journey and while his musical career started way earlier, he was inspired by the likes of singer-actor Kishore Kumar to venture into acting. Ammy Virk 'Even when Bollywood started in the '30s and '40s, the actors first entered as singers and chose acting later. That's the kind of culture that even Punjab follows. There are two advantages for makers also of casting them as they have a fan following already and they have faced the camera before as well. Kaam kar kar ke seekh liya hai itna ki it has become easier,' he says. Reflecting on his 10 years as an actor, Ammy Virk takes pride in his success rate at the box office. 'You need your first few films to do well to mark your footing, and fortunately, for me, it happened. I got back-to-back successes, and even till today, my success ratio is 80-85% and it's rare. I have grown day-by-day and even made films that weren't usually associated with Punjabi cinema,' he says. With the likes of him and actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh, Punjabi artistes have found a pan-India footing and have been actively working in Bollywood, and Ammy feels it has brought about a much-needed change: 'Now we are being approached to play heroes and not just a Sardar character in Bollywood,' he states, adding, 'Up until a decade or so ago, Sardars were used in Hindi films just for comedy or gags. What we were not, we were shown as that. We would question why are they showing us like that? But over time, they recognised the potential of Punjabi stars including people like me and Diljit paaji and they started approaching us. The makers started taking real Sardars for Sardar roles and that brings authenticity.' Taking the example of Animal, Ammy says, 'Vanga (Sandeep Reddy Vanga, director) sahab took actors from Punjab for the parts of (actor) Ranbir Kapoor's cousins. So, the writers and directors today are not thinking as how typical bollywood used to. They are also vying to get as close to reality as possible. They also want ki aise characters se us region ki khushboo aaye.' While his success ratio in Punjabi has been high, Ammy is yet to see a big success in Hindi as his first two films–Bhuj: The Pride Of India (2020) and '83 (2021) failed at the box office. Even his last two releases– Bad Newz and Khel Khel Mein (both 2024) were average grossers too. But he is unperturbed. 'The industry in Mumbai knows my calibre and potential. They know the timing was a bit dicey for my releases, but if given the chance, I can prove myself. Film upar neeche hone se artiste ki kaabiliyat kam nahi hoti, bas rate upar neeche ho jata hai,' he ends.

Neeru Bajwa Calls THIS Bollywood Star A Dream Co-Actor To Work With - Guess Who!

Mumbai: Actress Neeru Bajwa, who predominantly works in Punjabi cinema, has made a return to Hindi cinema with the recently released 'Son Of Sardaar 2' and is set to follow it up with another Hindi release 'Tehran'. The actress is all praise for her 'Tehran' co-star John Abraham. While in 'Son of Sardaar 2', she essays the role of Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn's wife, in 'Tehran' she shares the screen with John and Manushi Chhillar. Talking about the film, Neeru said, 'It is quite an amazing phase for me, getting to work in back-to-back Hindi releases. The intensity and authenticity that he brings to his portrayal is commendable. Having a good co-star helps you perform better too and that happened with me on 'Tehran' with John. I hope the audience likes us together on screen as it is a very special film'. For her, 'Tehran' is unlike anything she has done before, it's a gripping narrative that's as emotionally charged as it is politically complex. She went on, 'What drew me to this story was the strength and clarity of my character. She's someone who holds her ground and chooses integrity, even when the world around her is falling apart. It's a proud moment for me to represent a woman who is morally grounded and unafraid to stand up for what she believes in, in a story as intense and far-reaching as this'. ''Tehran' is a story that doesn't just entertain, it provokes thought, and I'm proud to be part of a film that's bold, timely, and unapologetically real', she added. The film is set to stream on ZEE5 on August 15, 2025.
