Selangor government, through Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) and Google Cloud, has launched Teraju AI Selangor.
This joint initiative aims to help state government agencies build and implement custom artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.
Teraju AI Selangor aims to enable these agencies to enhance public services in various aspects, including citizen communications, education, healthcare, transportation, physical infrastructure maintenance and advance projects that boost tourism and agricultural output.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, who was guest of honour at the launch held at Google Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, said the state recognised the potential of generative AI (gen AI) and agentic AI (AI that can act autonomously) to reshape public service and accelerate Selangor's transformation into a leading smart state.
'We're therefore taking action through Teraju AI Selangor, equipping state agencies with the essential toolset and training to help them effectively and responsibly harness these technologies,' he said.
He expressed confidence in Google Cloud's capability to enable the rapid development of functional AI solutions with strong guardrails.
'I must also stress that throughout this initiative, we are prioritising safe and ethical use of data, with zero compromise on data privacy and security as we cannot take cyber threats lightly.
'I hope through this, Selangor can build a more responsive system of government that is fit for the 21st century while rivalling some of Asia's best,' he added.
In a statement, STDC said through the initiative, Selangor has invested in an AI innovation sandbox that is the first of its kind in Malaysia's public sector.
The sandbox will provide participating agencies with funded access to Google Cloud's fully integrated AI technology stack for up to six weeks.
With access to these capabilities via a dedicated and secure Google Cloud environment, agencies can rapidly build their own gen AI and agentic AI solutions.
To ensure effective use of the sandbox, participating agencies will be enrolled in a full-day workshop by STDC and Google Cloud.
During this workshop, the agencies' AI practitioners and developers will receive tailored, hands-on training.
This will enable them to identify strategic cases that can be addressed using AI.
Participants will also get to build at least one AI solution prototype.
They will then get to test and refine their prototypes over six weeks.
Afterwards, participants will present working solutions to a panel with representatives from Selangor government, STDC and Google Cloud.
Panel members will evaluate the functionality and readiness of these proposals.
Solutions most able to benefit Selangor's citizens and economy will be showcased at the Teraju AI Selangor graduation ceremony later this year.
Further state funding may also be provided to enable full-scale implementation of solutions.
STDC chairman Mohd Nazri Noh expressed the centre's pride in working with Google Cloud to lead Teraju AI Selangor.
'This initiative can be a catalyst for public service transformation.
'But, unlocking its full potential requires practical AI solution development and implementation experience.
'Teraju AI Selangor is designed to empower state agencies with an enterprise AI toolset and hands-on training curriculum, crafted by Google Cloud experts who have been shaping this field.
'This initiative will nurture a public sector workforce that's capable of translating technological promise into real-world applications that deliver tangible value for communities,' he said.
Google Cloud Malaysia and Singapore country director Serene Sia said Selangor was poised to greatly benefit from Google's investments in Malaysia and its leading AI capabilities.
'With Teraju AI Selangor, we're deepening our partnership with Selangor government, working directly with state agencies and STDC to identify specific areas where AI can uplift productivity, enhance decision-making and deliver impactful services in support of state priorities like Rancangan Selangor.
'Google Cloud's technology stack is purpose-built to address public sector organisations' full spectrum of AI innovation needs, including security and privacy.
'We look forward to showcasing AI solutions that advance each agency's mission and make a positive difference in the lives of citizens.'

State estimates RM100mil required to settle cases over 10 years THE state government has launched the Selangor Strata Fund (DSS) initiative to solve strata title issues in phases. Six apartment buildings have been identified as pilot projects. The buildings are Flat Bunga Raya (Port Klang), Pangsapuri Seroja (Puchong), Apartment Dahlia (Rawang), Rumah Bandar Taman Saga (Ampang) and Pangsapuri Permai and Pangsapuri Seri Damai in Batu Caves. Amirudin says the state approved RM10mil for the DSS fund under this year's budget. Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state had approved RM10mil for the fund under its budget this year. He said a total of RM100mil would be required to resolve all strata title issues in apartment schemes in Selangor over the next 10 years. 'Although this involves significant financial implications for the state, the initiative will be continued in the interest of current owners and the future generations, to enable secure inheritance of the properties. 'The strata title grant is an important document that clarifies ownership rights, facilitates the inheritance process and protects the rights of heirs. Amirudin also said the DSS initiative was expected to generate returns for the state within 10 years, as residential units that have obtained strata titles would be paying parcel quit rent. Also present at the event was state housing and culture committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah. He said strata housing development in Selangor had grown rapidly in the past two decades. 'According to the Department of the Director-General of Lands and Mines, there were 898,368 strata titles registered in Selangor as of 2023. 'Across the state, 648 development schemes, involving 138,817 residential units have been unable to obtain strata titles since 2007,' he said. The programme, which attracted many residents from the surrounding area, kicked off with mass aerobic exercises, followed by activities like traditional games competition, basic health and teeth check up, and community cooking. Young children had a fun time playing at the inflatable playground and getting close to animals at the petting zoo set up just for the programme. There were also many booths set up by government agencies for the people to get to know more about the services.

Surge in foreign tourists visiting S'gor in lead-up to VSY 2025
From left: Amirudin and Ng visiting a booth at the Sekinchan Padi Field Festival 2025. SELANGOR is experiencing a shift in its tourism landscape as international visitors begin to form a larger part of the state's tourist arrivals. According to state local government and tourism committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim, the ratio of international to domestic tourists was previously 30:70. 'But by 2024, we successfully broke that pattern. 'Now, international tourists make up a larger share of visitors. 'This a positive sign for Selangor's growing global appeal,' he said. Ng said that while the momentum was encouraging, Sekinchan faced one major hurdle – the lack of four-star hotels for the rising number of higher-spending tourists. He was speaking to reporters at Sekinchan Padi Field Festival 2025 in the Sabak Bernam district. The state government had aimed to draw some 13,000 visitors to the two-day event. Held at Terminal Sekinchan, the festival was the first of its kind in Malaysia and had been held in support of Visit Selangor Year (VSY) 2025. (From left) Saipolyazan, Ng and Chua answering media queries at the festival. 'This festival was created to let visitors enjoy the beauty of agro-tourism in northern Selangor, a region that produces the most rice in Malaysia and is rich in natural beauty that you can't find in modern cities,' said Ng. The festival was launched by Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. Held from 7am to 7pm over two days, it featured a variety of family-friendly and cultural activities. Among first day highlights were electric tram and rickshaw tours through padi fields, a food festival, traditional kite (wau kapal) demonstrations, a mini kite decoration competition and a live performance by Malaysian singer-songwriter Aizat Amdan. The second day offered even more attractions, which included a padi field run, free health screenings and environmental volunteer activities. The festival was part of the VSY2025 campaign that aimed to draw 8 million visitors and generate RM11.7bil in tourism- related transactions. To support these goals, the Selangor Budget 2025 has allocated RM8mil for VSY2025 preparations. These include programming and upgrading tourism facilities across all nine districts. In the works are over 100 programmes and initiatives covering educational tourism, sports, food and beverage, arts, culture and heritage. Also present during the festival press conference were Menteri Besar Incorporated chief executive officer Saipolyazan M. Yusop and Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling.

Amirudin moots Selangor Rail project to boost aerospace development
SEPANG: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has mooted the idea of the proposed Selangor Rail project to complement the Selangor Aero Park (SAP). Amirudin in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony of SAP said the proposed rail network is the missing link that would connect key infrastructure and unlock the full potential of the state's aerospace development. "The proposed rail line, initially presented to the Transport Ministry several months ago, would serve to integrate the state's industrial zones, communities, and major transport hubs across Selangor and the Klang Valley. "Moving forward, if we are able to realise the full potential of SAP, there is one missing link which can join the dotted lines to connect industry, people, and the major transport infrastructure in Selangor and the Klang Valley, and that is the Selangor Rail. "It would connect Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Subang Airport, the existing seaports in Port Klang, and the upcoming third port in Carey Island, subject to the approval of the federal government," he said. Amirudin also said that despite the financial complexities involved, Selangor is ready to extend its full intellectual and technical support to turn the proposal into reality. In February, Selangor Investment, Trade and Mobility Committee chairman Ng Sze Han said the proposed 210km rail line is expected to take 10 years to complete once it receives the go-ahead from the government. Ng also said that the proposed line could reduce travel time by an hour for those travelling from Sabak Bernam to KLIA as compared to those travelling by road.
