How key routes via UER-II and Dwarka Expressway will help commuters in Delhi-NCR and beyond

Key road routes cutting traffic congestion and travel time opened on Sunday in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) — the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and two sections of the Dwarka Expressway. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated these on Sunday. An official briefs PM Narendra Modi and road transport minister Nitin Gadkari about the new routes; CMs Rekha Gupta and Nayab Singh Saini, of Delhi and Haryana respectively, are also seen. (HT Photo) What's UER-II and why it matters The Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) will ease traffic on Delhi's Inner and Outer Ring Roads, besides congestion points such as Mukarba Chowk and Dhaula Kuan, and on the NH-09. UER-II measures 75.7 kilomeres and is essentially designed as Delhi's third Ring Road. It will thus provide direct access to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat in Haryana from west and south Delhi. For commuters on the Delhi-Chandigarh route, and further, this will cut travel time. For industry, this will prove to be a major boost, bringing down cost of transport within the National Capital Region and beyond. According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), these four packages of UER-II connect Mahipalpur near the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, Delhi, to Alipur in North Delhi, linking up with routes to Haryana, Punjab and further. It is part of a corridor that will in future connect five major NCR expressways: Delhi-Dehradun, Delhi-Meerut, Noida-Greater Noida, DND-Faridabad, and Yamuna Expressway. Of the UER-II, 54.21 km is in Delhi and 21.5 km in Haryana. The project cost is ₹ 6,445 crore. How will Dwarka Expressway's newly-opened sections help? Phases three and four of the Dwarka Expressway were also opened by PM Modi at the function in Rohini on Sunday afternoon.

Last Updated: Veteran actor Shabana Azmi recently took an all-girls trip to Iceland. She shared scenic pictures from her trip on her social media. They say travel is the fountain of youth, and Shabana Azmi, at 74, has just given us the perfect example. With her closest friends by her side, the veteran actress swapped routines for raw landscapes and laughter-filled days in Iceland – the Land of Fire and Ice. From volcanic craters to cascading waterfalls, this wasn't just a holiday; it was proof that friendship and wanderlust only get better with age. The group's first stop was the striking Gerouberg Cliffs, where towering basalt columns, sculpted by nature over millions of years, stood like guardians of history. Against these dramatic backdrops, the women struck playful poses, celebrating both their bond and the grandeur of Iceland's rugged terrain. After all, travel isn't about checking boxes, but about framing memories in your way. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Shabana Azmi (@azmishabana18) The journey was stitched together with small but heartwarming details: holding an 800-year-old block of ice, grinning beside a sunflower taller than themselves, and indulging in freshly made pizzas on a tomato farm. Each moment, whether big or small, was a celebration of fun, food, and friendship. Why Iceland Belongs On Your Bucket List Inspired? Iceland isn't just for thrill-seekers in their 20s. Delhi–Gurugram commuters, your wait is over – this new route is expected to cut travel time to 30 mins

Travelling between Delhi and Gurugram is set for a major transformation. With the launch of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the Delhi stretch of the Dwarka Expressway, commuters finally have an alternative to the heavily congested NH-48. Reportedly, the twin corridors are expected to bring travel time from Delhi to Gurugram down to under 30 minutes, while also easing pressure on choke points such as Ring Road, Dhaula Kuan and Mahipalpur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday will inaugurate the 76-km UER-II, known as Delhi's new 'outer ring road,' and the 29-km Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway. Together, the projects are expected to transform connectivity between Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and Jaipur. UER-II runs from Alipur in North Delhi to Mahipalpur near IGI Airport. Built at a cost of around ₹ 7,700 crore, it connects Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh and Dwarka, while also linking with highways to Chandigarh, Rohtak and Sonipat. The Dwarka Expressway stretch, costing about ₹ 9,000 crore, extends from Kherki Daula toll plaza in Gurugram to Shiv Murti near Mahipalpur, directly linking with the Gurugram portion inaugurated in March 2024. With these corridors now operational, travel from Noida or Dwarka to IGI Airport will take just 20 minutes. More importantly for daily commuters, the new routes create a parallel path to Gurugram, bypassing NH-48 and the notorious traffic at Dhaula Kuan and Mahipalpur. Officials said the shift is expected to significantly reduce load on Delhi–Gurugram Expressway. For lakhs of commuters, the new roads promise more predictable travel times, shorter drives to Gurugram's business hubs, and relief from chronic congestion. Together with existing expressways, the projects are being seen as a game-changer for Delhi–NCR's road network.
