Comedian Milton Jones shares update on prostate cancer after surgery
The performer, famous for his stand-up and appearances on Mock the Week, revealed publicly in April that he needed to undergo surgery.
In a statement at the time, the 61-year-old said his cancer was 'treatable', but he needed time off for both the operation and recovery.
He expressed his sadness at having to axe much of his nationwide tour, hilariously named HA!milton, and said he was 'so sorry' to those who bought tickets.
But in his latest message, Milton had some good news for his followers.
Taking to Instagram today, the deadpan comic, beloved for his one-liners and puns, revealed that he is now cancer-free.
'A few months ago, I had to stop my tour because I needed treatment for prostate cancer. I'm glad to say I've had that treatment and am now cancer free!', his statement began.
'So many thanks to all the doctors and nurses who helped me get better – I couldn't do their job. I tried, but apparently you have to be qualified,' he joked.
'A big thank you to my family, friends, all those who helped reschedule things and the many others who have been so nice to me. Along with all those who have kept hold of their tickets for the shows that have been rescheduled and apologies to those whose shows we were unable to move.'
He added in typical comedic style: 'I have to admit there were a few dark moments when I wondered if anyone would ever see me again, but then I realised I was leaning against the light switch.'
Milton concluded by assuring fans he's now 'thankfully' in 'a completely different place', directing them towards his website for new shows.
'I'll be in lots of other different places on tour too. I hope to see you there.'
In the comments, fans and fellow comedians rallied around Milton, with Al Murray writing: 'Fantastic news'.
Miranda actress Sally Phillips added: '🙌great news, Milt. So happy'.
Jon Richardson also commented a red heart, while BBC Radio 5 Live's Matt Chorley penned: 'Great news!'
In his original statement confirming his cancer, Milton admitted it was a 'difficult decision' to make changes to his touring schedule.
Affected shows were in Leeds, Coventry, Basingstoke, Sterts, Launceston, Durham, Hexham, Ilkley, Wakefield, Lichfield, Tunbridge Wells, Portsmouth, and Lyme Regis, which were all due to take place over the summer.
'In addition, the Summer dates in Colchester, Bridlington, Stroud, and London will be rescheduled to the autumn,' he explained.
Milton added that all dates for his autumn tour leg would remain intact.
'Thanks for your support and respecting my privacy during this time. This decision has not been taken lightly. Trust me,' he assured his followers, vowing to reserve 'abnormal service' soon. More Trending
In light of his diagnosis, Milton was showered with love from other showbiz stars, including Olympic cyclist Sir Chris Hoy, 49, who was told his own prostate cancer was terminal last October, having been given two to four years to live.

Other symptoms can include erectile dysfunction, blood in your urine, blood in your semen, lower back pain, and losing weight without trying to.
You should see your GP if: you're over 50 years old, come from a Black ethnic background, or have a history of prostate cancer in your family
you're having trouble peeing or experiencing other symptoms
London-born comedian Milton first gained an audience with his various BBC Radio 4 shows, and after winning the prestigious Perrier Award from the Edinburgh Fringe festival in 1996.
He later joined Mock the Week on BBC Two, which was hosted by Dara Ó Briain and featured huge names in comedy, such as Hugh Dennis, Frankie Boyle, Andy Parsons, and Russell Howard, before its cancellation in 2022.

Milton has continued touring around the UK, has performed on Live at the Apollo twice, and was a writer on TV shows The One Ronnie, Not Going Out, and Laughing Cow.

Warmth and passion: Chappers ushers in new era for Match of the Day
He's spent years sitting on the bench, playing second fiddle to one of England's best ever strikers. But now that Gary Lineker has hung up his boots and bid farewell to Match of the Day after 26 years, Mark Chapman can finally have his moment. While more casual fans won't be aware of what the veteran broadcaster – affectionately known as 'Chappers' – will bring as the new focal point, to the diehards he's long been a known quantity. Widely respected for his relaxed manner and astute questioning, Chapman, 51, has hosted Match of the Day 2 on Sunday nights since 2013 (while occasionally covering for Lineker) and also presents a number of sports programmes across BBC Radio 5 Live. But before establishing himself as one of the top broadcasters in the country, he began his career more than five decades ago, as a continuity announcer on BBC television in 1996. He then became the cricket correspondent for BBC North East radio, before joining BBC Radio 1 as a Newsbeat sports reader on the Sara Cox and Scott Mills shows – where he developed the nickname 'Chappers'. He later joined BBC Radio 5 Live to host 5 Live Sport on Mondays. Alongside his run on Match of the Day 2, he was also BBC Sport's chief rugby league presenter, fronting its coverage of the Rugby League World Cup and RFL Challenge Cup matches. Chapman is one of Match of the Day's three new hosts, alongside Kelly Cates and Gabby Logan. While Cates will present a UEFA Super Cup highlights show on Wednesday and Logan will present the newly rebranded Match of the Day on Sunday, the three will rotate across the shows throughout the season. He's always been passionate about the game, declaring early in his career that he spent his time off 'playing football and watching football'. When asked to describe himself in three words, he opted for 'stroppy, moody and temperamental'. Appearing on the Scott Mills Breakfast show on Friday alongside the other two hosts, Chapman joked with Mills about their time working together. 'He never took off his coat,' Mills reminisced, 'he was there for a good time, not a long time.' Mills also highlighted one of his BBC diary entries from the early noughties, when the pair went to Magaluf with Jo Whiley. 'We went to dinner with DJ Sammy in Palma except for Chappers, who decided to shun a swanky celebrity dinner in order to do research on the Magaluf bar scene. Apparently, when you walk down the street, there are people who physically drag you into bars and force you to drink two pints for two euros with a free shot. Poor Chappers never stood a chance,' the entry read. Others have also said it is Chapman's warmth, humour and experience that make him a joy to work with. 'He's somebody that knows the game very well, is deeply passionate about it and is very good at providing a space where all the different pundits and people involved feel comfortable,' said Nedum Onuoha, who worked with Chapman on Planet Premier League. 'He tries to get the best out of you. He is very good at being able to create a show that's enjoyable, and I think that goes a long way in punditry.' Onuoha said Chapman was 'really funny and dry with certain things'. He said the presenter always remembered 'that it is a game' and wanted people to have fun. 'He knows that laughing brings people together, as opposed to arguing about things that honestly don't really matter. His personality is a great one, he's fun to be around and that can really make a difference, especially for new people entering the industry.' Chapman lived with his wife, Sara, in Hale, Greater Manchester until her death from cancer in 2020. The couple had three children together. One of the things that will undoubtedly be welcomed by BBC bosses is Chapman's approach to social media. He hasn't posted on X since January 2021, which sets him apart from his predecessor, who quit the BBC after an antisemitism row and never shied away from expressing his views on topics from the war in the Middle East to the UK government's immigration policy. Asked about the principal duties of a pundit in an interview with the Guardian in 2018, Chapman said: 'To inform, entertain and give an opinion. They don't always have to do highbrow analysis or be controversial – there's a balance to be found.' Match of the Day's new rotating line up, featuring two women, is a far cry from the days of Jimmy Hill and Des Lynam at the helm. But while leaning in to the change, Chapman and his co-hosts have worked to avoid comparisons to their predecessors. 'It helps that we're all really different from Gary [Lineker], in that he does it with a profile of his own as an England legend,' Cates has said. 'It's a very different career path. An ex-player taking over would be more of a direct comparison.'

There's nothing worse than male trouser trouble
First, there was the bizarre tale of the poor unfortunate man who, after dropping his trousers on the District line near Upton Park, was set upon by an outraged gang, beaten and then forcibly expelled from the Tube. And then, just a day or so before, the perpetually beleaguered Gregg Wallace caused a similar degree of opprobrium when he put out a video in which he addressed allegations of bad behaviour involving a lack of trousers. What on earth is going on? On Instagram, Wallace announced, with a touch of the Beowulf poet: 'Would you like the truth about the stories regarding me taking my trousers down, listen! There are no findings in the investigation that I took my trousers down in front of anybody.' He ended his video by repeating, sternly: 'Any claim that the report says differently is not true.' So there we have it. Gregg Wallace may be many things, but he is not a trouser-dropper – unlike the anonymous semi-flasher on the Underground, who definitely was, has now been detained for his own good under the Mental Health Act. A warning, perhaps, to those of us who, now that the weather is becoming disconcertingly warm once again, might fancy a little impromptu chino removal on public transport for our comfort. Yet in truth, the idea of taking down one's trousers is an innate source of English fascination that has been a staple of comedy since Chaucer and Shakespeare, and is likely to remain so until the day we are all wafting round in unisex kimonos. The reason why trousers – more than any other form of attire – are imbued with such comic potential is that the average English gentleman associates them with his dignity. Lose them, and his sang-froid tumbles to the floor along with the fabric. It was no wonder that the Aldwych farces and Carry On films all made considerable weather of their stiff, not-so-buttoned-up characters being compelled to cover their reduced dignity in increasingly absurd circumstances as their breeches sally off into the sunset. I would like to say that the loss of trousers is something that only occurs on stage and in film, but alas, I can testify that it is all too real. In my home city of Oxford, I have seen many cruelly abandoned pairs of formal trews in the street, presumably after a heavily misspent night involving fine wine. Nor is this limited to the young. A friend tells how, after a wild evening on Clapham Common with some newfound friends resulted in his being debagged, he cycled past the scene of the crime the next day to see his once-beloved slacks fluttering mournfully in the wind – the mute observer to whatever unspeakable things had happened in that particular spot. As for the shame's memorialisation in memoir, another friend – a leading light in the entertainment industry – has confessed that, should he ever put finger to keyboard and write his autobiography, it could only be called A Life Without Trousers, so torrid have his exploits in this field been. I would dearly love at this point to confess that I know nothing of such things, but unfortunately I recently had my own narrow brush with infamy. A few months ago, I was strolling along Hampstead Heath with my family when, to our horror, a tree fell just behind us, nearly causing grave hurt, or worse. We scrambled to safety just in time, with no worse injury than a few cuts and bruises – but as I realised that we were largely unharmed, I also realised that the sudden impact on the ground had sent my kecks cascading round my knees. To be found dead and trouserless on Hampstead Heath: now that, I fear, is the end that many of my enemies would wish on me. But I intend to give them the dissatisfaction of continuing to live – with the bottom of my trousers rolled – for many a well-furnished year to come, God willing.
