Nebraska commit named top high school quarterback

USA Today05-07-2025
A future Nebraska quarterback has been one of Illinois' top high school quarterbacks. Class of 2027 commit Trae Taylor is one of the most sought-after players at his position, according to the Daily Herald.
Taylor is entering his junior season at Carmel Catholic High School. He is the seventh overall quarterback in the 2027 class and the fourth overall player in his class from the state of Illinois, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
"What more can we say about the player at the top of the state's Class of 2027 rankings and near the top nationwide? After the hype that's built this offseason, Taylor (6-3, 180) and the Corsairs will draw crowds just to see him play. A whirlwind recruiting process ended in May when Taylor chose Nebraska over Illinois, LSU and Texas A&M."
Last season, he threw for 3,061 yards, 20 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, per statistics from MaxPreps. He also carried the football 41 times for 342 yards and four touchdowns while leading Carmel Catholic High School to a 4-7 record.

Top international prospect Dame Sarr commits to Duke

Duke gained a commitment from Dame Sarr, the top international 2025 prospect, on Thursday, helping the Blue Devils to ease the sting of losing four of their top five scorers to the 2025 NBA Draft. The 18-year-old announced his commitment to Duke via ESPN, calling it "my dream school." "My ultimate goal is to play in the NBA," Sarr said. "There's no better place to prepare you for that than Duke." A 6-foot-8 wing from Oderzo, Italy, Sarr made his Spanish ACB league debut for Barcelona in 2023. Then 16, Sarr became the second-youngest player in club history. He had a strong performance at the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Ore., in April, where he recorded 17 points and four boards in 25 minutes against the top high school players in the United States, including future Duke teammates Cameron and Cayden Boozer. Sarr's commitment further bolsters the Blue Devils' recruiting class, which ranks third in the nation, according to the 247Sports composite behind only Houston and Arizona. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2023 - All Rights Reserved

Former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback named to NFL's Top 100 players list

Former Oklahoma Sooners superstar quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield is entering his third season as the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After he and the team re-worked his contract to give him $30 million guaranteed next year in 2026, he got more good news on Monday. The OU legend was named to the annual NFL Top 100 Players of 2025 list this week, coming in right in the middle at No. 50. It's Mayfield's second appearance on NFL Network's annual list, as he was the No. 71 player on the 2021 edition of the list, back when he was a member of the Cleveland Browns. Each year, the members of the rankings are chosen by NFL players themselves, and Mayfield made the cut after having the best season of his career. He made his second-straight Pro Bowl in 2024, while passing for 4,500 yards and adding 41 touchdowns through the air. He led the Bucs to another NFC South division title, his second straight and the franchise's fourth in a row. So far, he's the third Tampa Bay player on the list, joining linebacker Lavonte David (No. 96) and defensive lineman Vita Vea (No. 76). Mayfield has found his home with the Buccaneers, posting the best two seasons of his NFL career after being seen as an afterthought by the other 31 franchises in the league. A one-year "prove it" deal with the Bucs turned into a three-year contract, and Mayfield only got better in Year 2 in Tampa. Another big year in 2025 could lead to an even bigger payday and more security down the road for the former No. 1 overall draft pick. Halfway through the NFL's Top 100 list, Mayfield is already the third former Sooner in the rankings. Kansas City Chiefs center Creed Humphrey came in at 93rd, while Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon was ranked 58th.
