MotoGP's Marini seriously injured in Japan testing crash
Marini was hospitalised after crashing at the Suzuka circuit on Wednesday, his Honda HRC team said. He was stabilised and will remain under observation in Japan until fit to travel.
The 27-year-old rider posted a picture on his Instagram feed of him lying in a hospital bed. "Thanks everyone for the support! I'll keep you posted," he wrote in Italian.
Marini, who finished 15th in the British MotoGP at Silverstone on Sunday, was testing for the Suzuka 8-Hour.

The annual endurance race, one of Japan's biggest motorcycling events, is held at the Honda-owned home Suzuka circuit that also hosts the Formula One Japanese Grand Prix.
Marini completed the first day without incident but crashed heavily on the second, suffering a dislocated hip, knee ligament damage, fractures to his sternum and collarbone and a right collapsed lung.
"Honda HRC and the Honda HRC Castrol team will support Marini fully in his recovery," the team said in a statement.
Marini is 13th in the 2025 MotoGP world championship standings after seven races.

'Many of these signs have faded over time and no longer meet the required standards for night-time visibility and reflectivity. The initiative aims to improve road safety and visibility for all road users.' She explained that all main lanes on the southbound carriageway will be temporarily closed, and traffic will be diverted to the emergency slow lane for the duration of the work to safely carry out the replacement. 'Motorists will be directed to clearly marked alternative routes from Atterbury Road, guiding them to the Rigel on-ramp, where they can rejoin the N1 freeway at Rigel Avenue. Still, road users should expect some delays and are encouraged to plan their trips accordingly.' The road closure was initially set to take place on Saturday, but was postponed to Sunday. Sanral is appealing to all motorists to plan their journeys ahead of time. Drivers are urged to follow traffic accommodation signs and instructions from flag personnel and to remain patient and cautious when travelling through the affected area. Fire breaks out at Randburg mini-substation
Emergency services rushed to the scene of a fire involving a mini-substation in Randburg on the morning of August 8. The Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) received the alert just before 10:00. EMS spokesperson Xolile Khumalo confirmed that fire crews were dispatched immediately. 'We confirm that EMS firefighters are currently responding to a transformer on fire incident on the corner of Agulhas and Witklip streets in Randburg,' said Khumalo. City Power officials were also notified and are expected to investigate the cause of the fire. 'The cause of the fire is not known at this stage. City Power will elucidate further on the matter,' Khumalo added. No injuries were reported. However, residents in the area may experience power outages while the scene is being cleared and damage assessed. Authorities have urged members of the public to stay away from the site for their safety. Motorists using Agulhas Road were also asked to use alternative routes, as emergency vehicles remain on the scene. Uber is in talks with private equity firms and banks to secure funds to build its robotaxi business, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said, as the ride-hailing giant bets on a mass rollout of the nascent and much-scrutinised technology. Uber, which offers robotaxis from Alphabet-owned Waymo, has been strengthening its foothold in the self-driving taxi industry through partnerships with carmakers such as Volkswagen and Lucid, just as Tesla seeks to expand its fledgling robotaxi business. Khosrowshahi on Wednesday pitched the tie-ups as part of a larger plan that involves three robotaxi business models: paying partners that own such vehicles a fixed rate, sharing revenue with fleet operators and owning vehicles while licensing software for self-driving technology. 'We are talking to private equity players, we have talked to banks,' the CEO said. 'Once we prove the revenue model, how much these cars can generate on a per day basis, there will be plenty of financing to go around.' For now, Uber said it was planning on using a 'modest' portion of its about $7bn in annual cash flows to fund deployments. It might also sell minority stakes in companies to aid the expansion, it said. Analysts have said mass robotaxi deployment could lower driver-reliant Uber's operating costs and boost profitability. The company has been offering Waymo robotaxis on its ride-hailing app in Austin, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia. In April, Uber entered a deal with Volkswagen for thousands of autonomous electric vans in the US over the next decade. It also struck a $300m (R5.31bn) partnership in July that will allow it to deploy more than 20,000 autonomous taxis, made by EV start-up Lucid and powered by self-driving tech from Nuro, over six years. Despite strong regulatory scrutiny, doubts about wider adoption, and high costs forcing many firms to shut down, Tesla and Waymo have been pushing to expand robotaxi services, a business Elon Musk has said could be worth trillions of dollars. Waymo is present in five US cities, including San Francisco, while Tesla launched a limited robotaxi service in Austin in June and started ride-hailing operations in the Bay Area last month. Uber said it has not yet seen any changes in demand trends in Austin or San Francisco since Tesla's services were launched in the cities. 'To a lot of these companies, it does seem this will be a worthwhile endeavour ... as there are lofty predictions about the robotaxi industry's total addressable market,' said Ken Mahoney, CEO of Mahoney Asset Management.
