National TVET Day celebration - A Manifestation of govt's commitment to produce dynamic workforce
KUALA LUMPUR: National TVET Day, celebrated annually on June 2, is a manifestation of the government's determination and commitment to positioning Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a primary pathway in producing a dynamic, highly skilled, and future-ready workforce.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the celebration highlighted the progress of the country's TVET ecosystem as a key driver of human capital development, while also serving as a platform that offers educational and career opportunities in the TVET sector through the involvement of various stakeholders.
In a post on X in conjunction with the National TVET Day celebration today, Ahmad Zahid, who is also the National TVET Council Committee chairman, said the efforts made were in line with the Malaysia MADANI framework, which places the TVET agenda as one of the priorities.
The efforts, he said, include expanding access to TVET education to rural students, improving training facilities, and encouraging youth who want to build future careers through skills.
'In fact, with the strong support of various parties, including the government, private sector, educational institutions and the community, TVET will remain the main thrust in building a more inclusive, progressive and globally competitive Malaysia,' he said.
In this regard, Ahmad Zahid invited the public to join in the celebration of National TVET Day 2025, to be held from June 11 to 13 at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC), Melaka. The theme of this year's TVET celebration is 'TVET, the Top Career Choice'.

In discussing bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and the United Kingdom, Ahmad Zahid said he expressed Malaysia's commitment to become the Asean Hub for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Certification and Excellence. "The focus will be on high-value industries such as semiconductors, electric vehicles (EV), aerospace and green energy. "I also conveyed Malaysia's intention to expand collaboration with UK academic institutions and industries to enhance TVET training, certification and the employability of Malaysian graduates," he told reporters during a working visit here on Monday. On rural development, Ahmad Zahid said the country is keen to learn from the UK's approach in transforming rural areas into sustainable economic growth zones. "We also discussed matters related to disaster management, access to clean water and the use of new technologies to strengthen resilience against global climate change," he said. Several issues concerning the environment were also discussed, especially on ways to overcome the problem of polluted rivers. "Malaysia needs to learn how the UK dealt with rehabilitating polluted rivers. "We need to take heed of how polluted rivers have become a thing of the past in the UK as we are still facing the same problem. "The first step to learning from them is to raise public awareness of the problem with polluted rivers," he said. Ahmad Zahid said both him and Reed agreed that sustainable programmes to preserve the environment were vital to moving forward. "Both of us concurred that leaders come and go but such programmes must continue," he added. The meeting also touched on renewable energy cooperation, including a proposal to reactivate the Asean Power Grid and explore investment opportunities in solar and green energy, he said. "The UK's establishment of GB Energy, a national clean energy company, was noted as a positive signal of its strong commitment to the green agenda. "I expressed Malaysia's readiness to be a strategic partner in this development," he said. In addition, Ahmad Zahid said he highlighted the potential of Islamic financial instruments such as sukuk to support climate finance and sustainable development cooperation. "This includes bolstering the global halal industry through the establishment of a World Halal Council and a unified halal logo, which aims to reinforce international consumer confidence in Malaysia's standards," he added. Ahmad Zahid said both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen trade ties, including through frameworks such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, and increasing business-to-business (B2B) engagement between the private sectors of both nations. "I believe this meeting has opened new avenues to elevate Malaysia-UK cooperation to a more strategic level, especially in building a more inclusive, sustainable and resilient future," he said. On Monday night, Ahmad Zahid hosted a gathering for Malaysians including 60 Mara-sponsored students based in the United Kingdom. He advised the students about giving back to the country once they have finished their studies. "While the salaries here (UK) might be substantially higher, returning and helping to develop the country further is priceless and much more meaningful." Ahmad Zahid arrived in London on Sunday night for a four-day working visit to the United Kingdom.

Dr Zaliha: JWP, agencies committed to implementing Kembara Diraja
KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa has directed the Department of Federal Territories (JWP) and all agencies under it to coordinate the implementation of the Kembara Diraja (Royal Tour), as decreed by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. In a statement on her Facebook page, she said the tour would provide an opportunity for His Majesty to personally engage with the people across the three Federal Territories and distribute zakat aid to those in need. Yesterday, Sultan Ibrahim announced that he would embark on the Kembara Diraja across the Federal Territories to observe the people's living conditions firsthand and distribute zakat to the poor and the eight eligible asnaf groups. His Majesty made the remarks during the 2025 Investiture Ceremony held in conjunction with his official birthday at Istana Negara yesterday. Dr Zaliha said JWP also fully supports His Majesty's emphasis on the need for civil servants to uphold the principle of Loyalty to the King and Country, which aligns with the Harmoni work culture introduced in the Federal Territories as a foundation for good governance. Kota Madani project expected to be completed by end-2027, says PM
KUALA LUMPUR: Kota Madani, slated for completion by 2027, aims to provide integrated and centralised basic facilities to support community welfare, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today. During the presentation session, Anwar said that among the planned developments included vertical schools and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. He added that financial institutions, health clinics, fire stations, police stations and mosques would also be built near the residential areas. "The first phase involves the construction of around 3,000 residential units and a vertical school, expected to be completed and fully operational by the end of 2027. "The design of the mosque and school will feature local cultural elements, in line with efforts to preserve architecture and heritage. "I hope the plans proceed smoothly and can be implemented effectively for the benefit of the community," he said through an entry on X, today. Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, through a separate post on X said that the Kota Madani project, covering 41.28 hectares, would provide 10,000 residential units to accommodate over 30,000 residents. The development will adopt a high-density vertical design. She said the city would integrate artificial intelligence (AI) technology, advanced digital infrastructure, and green mobility systems, forming the foundation for a low-carbon, sustainable and safe urban environment. "This is a long-term strategic investment to shape Putrajaya as a model city that reflects Madani values and aligns with the vision of Bandar Chase," she said. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 26.
