Ola, Uber services hit by driver strike in Mumbai, commuters face disruptions; Mumbai Airport issues advisory

App-based cab services in the Mumbai metropolitan region continued to be disrupted for the third consecutive day on Thursday as drivers working with platforms such as Ola and Uber intensified their strike demanding fare revisions and better working conditions. Kiran Kshirsagar, president of the Maharashtra Gig Works Manch , said nearly 90% of app-based cabs were off the roads on Wednesday, reported PTI. The protest is aimed at pushing for a fare hike and better regulations for gig workers in the transport sector. The group had met Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik earlier this week, but Kshirsagar said the absence of a clear commitment prompted them to continue the agitation. Travel woes at Mumbai Airport Passengers travelling to and from Mumbai Airport faced major delays, with limited cab availability due to the ongoing strike. The airport authority posted a travel advisory on X (formerly Twitter), requesting passengers to arrange alternative transport and plan their travel accordingly. What are the drivers demanding? According to a PTI report, the Maharashtra Gig Works Manch has listed several key demands: Fare parity with conventional 'Black & Yellow' taxis (Rs 32/km for AC cabs)A ban on bike taxis operating through aggregator appsPermit caps for black-and-yellow taxis and auto-rickshawsFormation of a welfare board for gig-based transport workersIntroduction of a 'Maharashtra Gig Workers' Act' modeled on policies adopted by other states "The cab aggregators are charging hefty commissions while offering drivers as low as Rs 8 per km," said Kshirsagar, as quoted by PTI. As online cab bookings failed or showed long wait times, many commuters shifted to municipal buses operated by BEST, autorickshaws, or walked to nearby railway and metro stations to complete their journeys.

Car loan rates this July: 7.60%-14.25%, check bank-wise rates & charges

If you're planning to buy a new car this monsoon, it's worth looking closely at how car loan rates stack up this July. According to data from public sector banks continue to offer some of the most competitive interest rates, though private lenders bring in flexibility with quicker processing. Here's a look at what borrowers need to know about the current rates and charges before signing up for a loan. Public banks keep rates low, with fee waivers Among public sector lenders, Canara Bank is offering rates between 7.70-11.70 per cent p.a. with a special offer: a 100 per cent waiver on processing fees under its Retail Loan Festival running from July 1 to September 30, 2025. Similarly, Union Bank of India has rates ranging from 7.80-9.70 per cent p.a., with a flat processing fee of up to Rs 1,000. Punjab National Bank (PNB) and UCO Bank also remain competitive with starting rates of 7.85 per cent and 7.60 per cent, respectively. PNB charges up to 0.25 per cent (Rs 1,000-1,500) as a processing fee, while UCO Bank's fee is slightly higher at 0.50 per cent (Rs 5,000). Here's a snapshot of some public lenders' offers: State Bank of India (SBI): 8.90-9.95 per cent p.a., processing fee of Rs 750-Rs 1,500. Bank of Maharashtra: 7.70-12.00 per cent p.a., 0.25 per cent processing fee (max Rs 15,000), with 0.25 per cent rate concession for existing home loan borrowers. Compare EMIs: For a Rs 5 lakh loan over 5 years, EMIs can vary between Rs 10,043 (UCO Bank) and Rs 11,699 (Punjab and Sind Bank), depending on the bank and rate. Processing fee waivers: Take advantage of offers like Canara Bank's zero processing fee scheme. Relationship discounts: Some banks, like Bank of Maharashtra, offer concessions for existing customers. Bottom line If affordability is key, public sector banks may be your best bet this July, especially with different concessions and fee waiver offerings. However, if speed and flexibility matter more, private lenders, despite higher costs, could suit your needs. Compare rates and charges carefully before taking the plunge.

Ambrane MagSurge Qi2 wireless powerbank launched in India: Price, features, and availability

Ambrane, an Indian tech accessories brand, has unveiled its latest wireless magnetic power bank, the MagSurge, to the Indian market. The power bank comes with a battery capacity of 10,000mAh and carries Qi2 certification, indicating compliance with the latest wireless charging standards. This article provides an overview of MagSurge's specifications, features, pricing, and availability. The main feature of the Ambrane MagSurge power bank is its Qi2 wireless certification. This certification allows the powerbank to wirelessly charge smartphones that support Qi2, including popular models such as the latest iPhone series and Samsung Galaxy S flagship phones. The Qi2 protocol helps reduce heat during charging and uses magnetic alignment to maintain a stable connection between the charger and the device. Additionally, Ambrane includes a magnetic charging ring with the power bank. This accessory enables users to convert phones without built-in magnetic charging capabilities to work with the MagSurge. The MagSurge delivers wireless charging speeds up to 15 watts. It also supports wired charging with a maximum output of 22 watts, including 20 watts for normal charging and 22 watts for Programmable Power Supply (PPS) charging. The powerbank features a USB-C port, which serves both as an input to recharge the powerbank and as an output to charge other devices. A five-segment LED indicator displays the charging status and remaining battery level. With a 10,000mAh battery, the MagSurge can charge an iPhone 16 approximately 1.5 times on a single full charge. The device incorporates Ambrane's SafeCharge Technology, which offers safeguards against overload, overcharging, overvoltage, electrostatic discharge, short circuits, and incorrect circuit connections. The powerbank also has a built-in metal stand designed to hold smartphones in either vertical or horizontal positions, which lets users watch videos comfortably while charging. The Ambrane MagSurge is priced at Rs. 1,999 on Amazon India and is available in purple and golden colour options. The device can also be purchased through Ambrane's official website at Rs. 2,499.
