Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport introduces signature fragrance to enhance passenger experience
Officials at Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) said the fragrance will be subtly diffused at key touch points across the terminal, including check-in and arrival zones. The aim is to ease travel-related stress and create a sense of comfort and familiarity for passengers navigating the busy terminal.
'As airports evolve into spaces that are more than just transit hubs, integrating sensory design helps create a memorable experience,' said Shalini Rao, Chief Marketing Officer, BIAL.
The fragrance initiative follows other passenger-focused design elements at Terminal 2, including large green spaces and art installations. BIAL officials said the fragrance is intended to complement these visual and spatial experiences by engaging another sense — smell — and making the terminal feel more welcoming and reflective. The introduction of an olfactory signature is a first for the airport and is part of a global trend in which major airports are turning to sensory branding to influence mood and passenger perception.
Many airports globally, particularly in Asia, Europe, and the United States, use scent marketing to enhance passenger experiences. Companies like Air Aroma and ScentAir work with airports to create custom fragrances that align with the airport's identity, aiming to reduce stress and create positive memories.
For example, Singapore Changi Airport introduced its fragrance in 2016 called Changi Scent, which draws inspiration from Changi's lush gardens and Singapore's national flower, the orchid. It features notes of orchid, geranium, mint, citrus, and Asian spices. The scent is dispensed at departure hall doors and other key areas to evoke a soothing and refreshing atmosphere amid the airport's hustle and bustle. Reed diffusers and candles of Changi Scent are also available for purchase.
In the United States, San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport opened its new six-gate terminal with a spa-like fragrance in ticketing areas and baggage claim to convey a fresh, clean, and relaxing atmosphere.
Similarly, Tampa International Airport in Florida has used ScentAir's Bamboo Tea fragrance, which includes notes of green bergamot, jasmine, neroli, musk, and tree moss. The scent is designed to reflect the Tampa Bay region and is dispensed in several areas to create a fresh and calming environment for passengers.

Shrimp exporters seek govt aid as Trump tariffs threaten USD 2 bn of exports
New Delhi, Aug 10 (PTI) The Seafood Export Association of India has approached the ministries of commerce and finance to seek emergency financial support as USD 2 billion worth of shrimp exports to the US face severe disruptions due to increased tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump, a statement said on Sunday. The association has requested a 30 per cent increase in working capital through soft loans, with margins covered by interest subvention and a 240-day moratorium for pre- and post-packaging operations. "Close to USD 2 billion worth of shrimp exports face severe disruptions," Seafood Export Association of India (SEAI) Secretary General K N Raghavan told PTI, adding that Trump last week further increased reciprocal tariffs from 25 per cent to up to 50 per cent. India exported USD 2.8 billion worth of shrimps to the US in 2024 and has shipped USD 500 million worth so far this year. The new duties make Indian seafood significantly less competitive compared to China, Vietnam and Thailand, which face US tariffs of only 20-30 per cent, Raghavan said. He warned that these Asian competitors would likely capture US market share by lowering prices while Indian exporters cannot reroute existing shipments as it would attract additional 40 per cent penalties for contract violations. "The only way is to explore five new markets, but it would take time. For instance, the free trade deal with the UK, although signed, will take time for implementation," Raghavan said. The tariff escalation threatens one of India's largest agricultural export sectors, which employs millions across coastal states and contributes significantly to the country's foreign exchange earnings.

Darwin Nunez Leaves Premier League Champions Liverpool For Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal
The Saudi Arabian soccer league has secured its latest marquee signing after Darwin Nunez completed a move from Liverpool to Al-Hilal on Saturday. The Uruguay international cost a reported 46.3 million pounds ($62 million) and has signed a three-year contract. Al-Hilal — Saudi Arabia's most successful team — has been searching for another star signing after releasing Brazil great Neymar in January. Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes rejected a move before the Club World Cup in June and there was also reported interest in former Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. Nunez leaves Liverpool after a mixed time in the Premier League, where he produced some spectacular moments but could not establish himself as the Merseyside club's first-choice center forward. He scored 40 goals in 143 games and won the Premier League title last season. But he made only one league start from the turn of the year and scored just seven goals in 47 total appearances last term. In a summer when Liverpool has reinforced its attack with the signings of Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz, along with reported interest in Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, Nunez's position had been in doubt. He follows a slew of players who have left Europe's top leagues for Saudi Arabia since Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Al Nassr in 2022. Karim Benzema, Sadio Mane and Riyad Mahrez are some of the high-profile names to make the switch as Saudi Arabia has mounted an ambitious recruitment drive to establish itself as a major player in global soccer. Al-Hilal, which produced one of the biggest upsets at the Club World Cup by eliminating Manchester City, already has a host of marquee players including Kalidou Koulibaly, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Joao Cancelo and Alesandar Mitrovic. It is also coached by two-time Champions League runner up Simone Inzaghi. It has won a record 19 Saudi league titles as well as four Asian championship, but was beaten to the title by Al-Ittihad last season.
