Marina Shows She's The ‘Princess Of Power' On New Album
Marina
Welsh singer Marina has taken full control of her creative output since the release of her 2021 album Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land. The following year, she completed her contract with Atlantic Records and created her own Queenie Records label, stepping into her power as an independent artist.
It's only fitting, then, for her first independent album to be titled Princess of Power. Marina first teased that she was coming out of her cocoon in February with lead single 'Butterfly,' an appropriate metaphor for an artist emerging into a new phase of her life and career. She followed it up with the attitude-packed 'Cupid's Girl' and 'C*ntissimo,' further showing that she was coming back with a vengeance and isn't a malleable pop star bending to the whims of the music world.
Look no further than songs like 'Digital Fantasy' and 'Princess of Power.' 'I livеd the sweet and I lived the sour / Been living lifе locked up in a tower / But now I'm blooming like a flower / Welcome to my world, princess of power,' she sings on the album's titular track. 'Stuck in a loveless generation / Ready to go through a transformation / I'm gonna glow like a meteor shower / Welcome to my world, princess of power.'
When discussing the project with Rolling Stone, Marina described a creative process unlike anything she's experienced before in her career.
'There's a weird spaciousness in me that hasn't been present in previous album releases, and I think it's because I feel so happy and confident with what I've created,' she said, adding, 'I don't like forcing things anymore.'
'I was trying to access this euphoric energy that I wanted in my everyday life,' she added. 'That was the blueprint for this record energetically.' Tracks like 'Rollercoaster" speak to that state of mind. 'I wanna swim topless in the ocean / Have sex on the sand, on the grass, in the garden / Spread me like a picnic on the floor in the forest / 'Cause I don't wanna live if I can't be honest,' she croons.
As she approaches her 40th birthday later this year, Marina has flipped her perspective on what it means to be an 'aging' woman in pop music, confessing that women in music face an unfair double standard despite women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond proving that they can continue to enjoy successful careers.
'We've been told that it's something that's going to take our value from us, whilst men get to age and gain power, and wisdom, and respect, and better pay. Why's it the reverse for women?" she said. "Youth is usually where the fresh new things are happening, but I want to disrupt that.'

King and Duchess of Edinburgh visit Royal Windsor Flower Show
The King has visited the Royal Windsor Flower Show, which this year is inspired by an idea from his book. Charles, who has a passion for gardening, stopped to smell the flowers during his visit to the show which is billed as 'a joyful one-day celebration of gardening, nature, food and traditional crafts'. Gardener Alan Titchmarsh, who is the honorary president of the Royal Windsor Rose & Horticultural Society, helped to welcome the royal party including the Duchess of Edinburgh who officially opened the event. The theme for this year's show, held at the York Club in Windsor Great Park, is Patterns in Nature' inspired by Charles's 2010 book called Harmony: A New Way Of Looking At Our World. The King's Foundation explains Charles's philosophy of harmony is aimed at understanding 'the balance, order and relationships between ourselves and the natural world' to 'create a more sustainable future'. It adds: 'The Harmony philosophy sees everything in nature as interconnected, including ourselves. 'This means taking a holistic approach to the challenges facing our planet, and looking to solve these challenges by working with nature, rather than against her.' Apart from looking at the displays Charles smiled and shook hands with members of the public and Sophie chatted with Chelsea pensioners. There were also expert talks, demonstrations and hands-on workshops on offer for those who attended. Saturday was the 118th edition of the show, which has Charles as its patron.

Billie Eilish's Mid-Career Album Becomes A Bestseller Again
Billie Eilish has only released three full-length albums during her career, yet what she has accomplished with that trio of projects is incredible. In just over half a decade, and with only a few dozen tunes, she has not only proved herself to be one of the most successful and creative musicians of her generation, but also one of the most exciting artists of all time. It's not uncommon for Eilish's three albums to chart simultaneously on various Billboard rankings. The trio are almost always found on tallies like the Billboard 200 and rock- and alternative-specific lists. One of those three albums is experiencing something of a comeback this week, as it returns to multiple tallies at once, as Americans continue to buy the set years after it originally became a smash success. After proving herself with her debut When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, Eilish showed she was no one-era wonder with her sophomore full-length, Happier Than Ever. That set is a bestseller again in America as it reenters both the Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums charts. This week, it returns to the all-encompassing list of the top-selling albums in the country at No. 49, in second-to-last place. It also makes a comeback on the vinyl-only tally, landing at No. 25, the lowest possible position on that ranking. A healthy sales spike is responsible for Happier Than Ever's resurgence. According to Luminate, from one tracking period to the next, sales of the project increased by nearly 10%, rising from just over 2,000 to more than 2,200. That's quite an accomplishment for a years-old release that Eilish herself has long since stopped promoting. While Happier Than Ever reappears on two tallies, it is largely otherwise declining this frame in the U.S., as it slips on the Billboard 200 and Top Rock & Alternative Albums rankings. It does, however, manage to climb one spot on the Top Alternative Albums list, reversing course and stepping up to No. 18. Both When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and Eilish's most recent project, Hit Me Hard and Soft, can be found on at least three Billboard rankings apiece. While her debut set is primarily declining — but not by much — Hit Me Hard and Soft lifts everywhere, even returning to No. 1 on two of the half-dozen rankings it can currently be found on.
