Acrow Bridge Supports Rapid Restoration of Key Pennsylvania Route

Modular steel solution installed after floodwaters damage Somerset County bridge Acrow Bridge in Boynton PA PARSIPPANY, N.J., June 10, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Acrow, a leading international bridge engineering and supply company, is pleased to note that it has designed and supplied a modular steel detour bridge to temporarily replace a flood-damaged structure in Boynton, Pennsylvania. Acrow's rapidly installed solution enabled the route to reopen less than two weeks after the extreme rainfall event on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. As the floodwaters receded, Somerset County officials assessed the damage, which was widespread across the southern part of the county. After determining the bridge over Piney Creek on U.S. Route 219 (Mason-Dixon Highway) had sustained significant damage, the structure was closed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) in the interest of public safety. Detours were quickly implemented, but the closure had significant impact on the crucial two-lane section of the route, which provides access to Interstate 68 in Maryland some five miles (8.05km) to the south. The bridge is crossed by an average of 4,700 vehicles daily, including many large commercial trucks, and a prolonged closure posed the threat of serious economic consequences. Planning to reopen the highway to traffic began immediately. Out of these discussions it was decided that installing a temporary modular steel bridge was the optimal solution to restoring the route most quickly, safely and cost-effectively. An Acrow 700XS® bridge was selected, and rented to project contractor Merlo, Inc. Components of the modular structure arrived at the site on Tuesday, May 20, and Acrow's Field Service Representative (FSR) arrived the next day to provide guidance to the contractor's team on the safe and efficient assembly of the bridge. To expedite the route's reopening, the team worked round the clock in 12-hour shifts, with Acrow's FSR working with both shifts. The assembled bridge was launched on May 22 with the assistance of a crane, and by 6:30 that evening, had been lowered onto its bearings. Overnight, work continued to deck the bridge. After a final inspection by Acrow's FSR, the bridge opened to traffic on Saturday May 24, less than two weeks after the closure, and ahead of schedule. Acrow's modular steel bridge is 100 feet (30.48m) long and has a roadway width of 30 feet (9.15m). It was designed for PHL-93 legal and P-82 permit loading per PennDOT Design Manual Part 4 (DM-4). The bridge deck was paved with a crowned asphalt overlay and it has a guardrail system designed to meet the demands of TL-4 loading. To minimize any delays in reopening the route to traffic, the bridge was assembled and launched on-alignment with the current roadway. 'Acrow's durable modular steel bridge was an ideal solution for this project,' said Kevin Traynor, Acrow's Business Development Manager for New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. 'Available for rent or purchase, our in-stock bridging components enable expedited delivery, even in difficult conditions, and rapid assembly and installation provide an immediate, reliable solution to reconnecting communities after emergencies.' Added Russ Parisi, Vice President North America, 'We are honored to have been able to assist on this project to restore a key route in Pennsylvania. Drawing on decades of experience, Acrow understands the challenge of restoring infrastructure quickly and can provide immediate response in the most difficult conditions.' About Acrow Acrow has been serving the transportation and construction industries for more than 70 years with a wide range of modular steel bridging solutions for permanent, temporary, military and emergency use. Acrow's extensive international presence includes leadership in the development and implementation of bridge infrastructure projects in over 150 countries across Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and the Middle East. Alex Bowman Speaks Out After Severe Michigan Wreck: 'It Gets Wild'

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Alex Bowman has opened up on the massive crash during the NASCAR Cup Series race at the Michigan International Speedway that brought out the red flag. Five drivers were involved in the incident that caused Bowman to lose control of his car and crash head-on into the barriers. The incident occurred after a contact between the No. 2 and No. 41 cars, which then spilled onto the No. 99 and the No. 48. The No. 19 car wasn't spared either. Bowman, Daniel Suarez, Cole Custer, Austin Cindric, and Chase Briscoe were involved in the incident, and fortunately, all escaped unharmed. For Bowman, the incident was severe enough to knock him out of the race. Admitting that it was the hardest hit he ever had in a stock car, he told Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports: Alex Bowman, driver of the #48 Ally Chevrolet, looks on during the NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Pit Road Qualifying Entry/Exit Practice (Open) at North Wilkesboro Speedway on May 16, 2025 in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina.... Alex Bowman, driver of the #48 Ally Chevrolet, looks on during the NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Pit Road Qualifying Entry/Exit Practice (Open) at North Wilkesboro Speedway on May 16, 2025 in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. More"It happened so fast that I didn't even see them. I didn't know who hit me until I saw the video. It's always turbulent in the 300th. It's crazy back there. It gets wild and that is part of racing. It's wild all through the field. "Unfortunately, the further back you get, the less downforce cars have, the dirtier the air, the situations you're in, and the worst everybody stuff drives. So stuff like this tends to happen." He added: "I feel okay. It was the biggest hit I've ever taken in a stock car by a mile. Head-on into the wall at Michigan, it's gonna be that way. Try to go get them next week." Alex Bowman said it always is turbulent in the pack at Michigan and he is OK after what he said was the hardest hit he has ever had in a stock car. @NASCARONFOX — Bob Pockrass (@bobpockrass) June 8, 2025 Bowman wasn't the only Hendrick Motorsports driver to suffer a setback. William Byron, who led the race for 98 laps, lost the lead to Denny Hamlin after running out of fuel when there were just four laps to go. He finished the race in 28th place after refueling. Speaking to Sports on Prime after the disappointing race finish, Byron said: "We didn't have enough. We were going to run out with a lap and a half left, we did run out with a lap and a half left. I was trying to manage both [and] manage the gap and save [gas]. It sucks, it really stings. Not able to do much about that. It is what it is." Running out of gas was the detriment for @WilliamByron today. #NASCARonPrime — Sports on Prime (@SportsonPrime) June 8, 2025 FireKeepers Casino 400 Cup Series Race Results 1. Denny Hamlin 2. REAL ID text scam targeting RI residents, DMV warns

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is expanding its warning against an increasing wave of scam messages targeting residents through texts, emails and phone calls. According to the DMV, these scams, reported nationwide, attempt to trick people into sharing personal information by clicking malicious links that lead to fake websites. Common messages claim the recipient has unpaid tolls or traffic violations, threaten that their license will be suspended, or state that their REAL ID has been canceled or flagged as fraudulent. You may be targeted if the message: Claims your REAL ID has been canceled or flagged as fraudulent Says you have unpaid tolls, fines, or violations Threatens enforcement action unless payment is made immediately Urges you to click a link or call a number to fix the issue Rhode Islanders are urged not to click any suspicious links, reply to unusual messages, or provide personal or financial information. The DMV emphasized that it will never demand payments or issue threats through unsolicited text messages, emails, or phone calls. Fraudulent messages should be reported to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center and the FTC. You can also forward them to 7726 (SPAM) to alert your mobile provider. Anyone concerned about their DMV records can check their license and registration status, expiration dates, and any suspensions by visiting the DMV's online customer portal.
