Chiefs scouting report: Alabama A&M Bulldogs OT Carson Vinson
The Kansas City Chiefs signed left tackle Jaylon Moore in free agency to stabilize their pass protection. Moore is a nice short-term addition but doesn't move the needle when projecting ahead several years. The Chiefs should invest in at least one developmental offensive tackle in the 2025 NFL draft.
Alabama A&M Bulldogs left tackle Carson Vinson is a massive 6'7 1/8", 314 lb. prospect with more than 3,400 collegiate offensive snaps under his belt. He turned heads at the Senior Bowl earlier this year by measuring in with 35 1/8" arms and a 6'11 3/4" wingspan. Despite his significant experience in college, Vinson is a long-term project who needs several years to develop before competing for snaps.
Vinson's measurables and movement skills check all the boxes. He's a smooth athlete with massive hands that defenders struggle to combat. Vinson loads and shoots his hands with jarring power to stun and re-route pass rushers. His grip strength locks down defensive linemen and prevents them from continuing their rush plans.
Vinson moves well in space and rolls power through his hips when he contacts defenders. He churns his legs through contact to displace linemen or pancake linebackers.
Vinson is a freaky athlete but lacks technical polish. His kick step leaves his outside shoulder vulnerable to speed rushes. His hands land wide, exposing his chest, and lack the consistent pop to dent pass rushers. Vinson plays top heavy, overextending when he attempts to initiate contact in the pass and run games. He struggles to keep blocks framed despite possessing an arm length advantage against most opponents.
Vinson plays at the level of a late Day 3 selection, but his outstanding physical tools and developmental upside as a small school prospect suggest he could go as high as the fourth round. The Chiefs may need to trade back from pick 95 into the top of the fourth round to secure Vinson at a cost-effective spot.

Piolo joins Iowa after most recently being the Atlanta Falcons' assistant general manager from 2014-2019. Scott Pioli brings a mountain of experience in his career, as he has been in the NFL since 1992 in a multitude of roles, from scouting to player personnel to the front office. Before that, Pioli coached in college from 1988 to 1991 with stops at Syracuse and Murray State. A three-time Super Bowl champion in the NFL, Scott Pioli has been named the PWFA Executive of the Year three times (2003, 2007, 2010) and the Sporting News NFL Executive of the Year twice (2003, 2004). Iowa's athletics department has hired former Kansas City Chiefs general manager and New England Patriots executive Scott Pioli as a consultant to help the football program transition into a new financial model. The move comes as universities prepare to pay athletes directly in response to the landmark House settlement approved last week. Advertisement Pioli, 60, worked alongside Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz with the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens from 1992-96, and the two have fostered a close relationship over the last three decades. Pioli has attended Iowa football practices and was retained last fall in preparation for the athletic department sharing revenue with Iowa athletes. Pioli will continue to work with all of Iowa's programs, but his expertise lies with football. At New England, Pioli was the Patriots' vice president of player personnel when the team won three Super Bowls and was named the Pro Football Writers Association's executive of the year three times. Pioli was the Chiefs' general manager from 2009-12, and then served as Atlanta Falcons assistant general manager from 2014-19. He has since worked as an NFL analyst for SiriusXM, NBC Sports and NFL Network. Iowa will share the maximum allowable amount of money under the House settlement, which is $20.5 million, with as much as 75 percent going toward the football program. In addition to bringing on Pioli, Iowa has established a cap management structure that includes general managers for each sport. Marcus Wilson will serve as executive senior associate athletics director for cap management and administration, while Scott Brickman, the department's general manager for NIL and strategy through a partnership with Altius Sports Partners, will review and approve all agreements. Financial parameters related to the $2.8 billion House settlement, which was approved on Friday night by Judge Claudia Wilken, go into effect on July 1.
