RSRTC issues third tender to procure 300 EV buses for Delhi-NCR routes, ET Infra
The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) has issued a tender for the third time to procure electric vehicle buses. The corporation plans to acquire 300 electric buses which are to be deployed on routes within the National Capital Region (NCR). Officials said that electric buses will be taken on contract, and bus operators will be paid up to ₹60 per km. Before this, tenders were invited in December 2024 and May 2025. Officials added that the tender for 300 buses is two-fold: one with the infrastructure for charging the buses and the second without charging infrastructure. The corporation aims to procure a total of 900 EVs, which will replace the existing diesel-based fleet used for these routes. For the initial 300 buses, RSRTC has floated the tender, said officials."Due to the two-fold nature of the tender, we have not received bids as expected till now. The tender has been floated for the 300 EVs that were announced in the state budget. By next month, we'll be able to understand what the response of the bidders is," said a senior official.Officials said that by June 2026, RSRTC will replace all its 900 buses currently plying on the Delhi-NCR routes with EV buses complying with the guidelines of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). The corporation is also working on procuring 600 EV buses as part of a central government scheme, PM E-Drive, for which the state government has also given the sovereign guarantee, said officials."The PM E-Drive, which is the scheme of the Department of Heavy Industries, is primarily for intra-city operations, but we have requested the central government to allow us to procure buses under this scheme due to the requirements, explaining our situation," said Shubhra Singh, RSRTC chairperson.

India has 29,277 EV charging stations, Karnataka leads: Minister
There are now a total of 29,277 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the country, the Parliament was informed on Friday. Karnataka leads with 6,097 EV charging stations, followed by Maharashtra at 4,155 and Uttar Pradesh at 2,326, Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries, Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, told the Lok Sabha in a written reply. The Power Ministry issued the 'Guidelines for Installation and Operation of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure-2024', in September last year, and the 'Guidelines for Installation and Operation of Battery Swapping and Charging Stations', in January this year, which lay down standards and protocols for developing a nationwide network of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, battery charging, and battery swapping stations. "An allocation of ₹ 2,000 crore has been made under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme to support the "setting up of adequate public charging infrastructure for various categories of electric vehicles" on a pan-India basis in consultation with ministries, states and other stakeholders," informed the minister. The PM E-DRIVE scheme was launched in October 2024 to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) through demand incentives and expand EV charging infrastructure nationwide. The Centre has allocated ₹ 10,900 crore for subsidies to EVs under this scheme. When it comes to Tier-2 cities, there are as many as 4,625 EV charging stations operational in the country (as on April 1, 2025). Meanwhile, the government has supported a total of 18,84,905 electric vehicles (EVs) under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid and) Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) scheme till June 30 this year. Under the FAME-II scheme, the government supported 16,29,600 vehicles. The FAME-II scheme sanctioned a total of ₹ 912.50 crore for the installation of 9,332 EV PCS, out of which 8,885 EVPCS have been installed (as on June 30), said Varma. The FAME schemes were applicable all across the country, including Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. The FAME-I Scheme duration was 2015-2019, and the duration of the FAME-II scheme was 2019-2024.

India's tier 2 cities have 4,625 EV charging stations: Centre
New Delhi: As many as 4,625 EV charging stations are operational in the tier 2 cities in the country (as on April 1, 2025), according to the government. In addition, Rs. 2,000 crore has been allocated under the Prime Minister Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme for the establishment of electric vehicle public-charging stations (EV PCS) across India, including tier 2 cities in Tamil Nadu, said Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries, Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. The PM E-DRIVE scheme was launched in October 2024 to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) through demand incentives and expand EV charging infrastructure nationwide. The Centre has allocated Rs 10,900 crore for subsidies to EVs under this scheme. "Setting up electric vehicle charging stations is an unlicensed activity and private entrepreneurs can also install the charging stations. The installation of EV charging stations is demand driven activity and no target can be set as installation depends on many factors including EV penetration," the minister added. The Centre has allocated Rs. 873.50 crore towards the installation of 8,932 EVPCS by the three oil marketing companies (OMCs) namely IOCL, BPCL and HPCL under the FAME-II Scheme, he further said. Meanwhile, electric car sales penetration is expected to cross 7 per cent by FY 28, subject to timely resolution of rare earth element (REE) disruptions and the government's continuous push to improve charging infrastructure in the country. India's EV fleet grew from just over 5,000 units in FY21 to more than 1.07 lakh units in FY25. Meanwhile, over the past three years, the number of public EV charging stations in the country grew from 5,151 to 26,000. Earlier this month, the government launched a groundbreaking scheme to provide financial incentives for electric trucks (e-trucks) under the PM E-DRIVE initiative, with the maximum incentive set at Rs 9.6 lakh per vehicle. 4,557 EV public charging stations installed on highways and expressways: Nitin Gadkari
A total of 4,557 electric vehicle (EV) public charging stations (PCSs) have been installed across a length of 146,342 km on the state, National Highways, and Expressways in the country, the Parliament was informed on Wednesday. Uttar Pradesh leads with 507 public EV charging stations, followed by Karnataka at 489, Maharashtra at 459, Tamil Nadu at 456 and Rajasthan at 424, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. "As per information available with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a total of 4,557 EV Public Charging Stations (PCSs) have been installed on the state/National Highways/expressways in the country," he said. The minister further stated that there is no scheme for providing incentives to the Charging Point Operators (CPOs). Meanwhile, 4,625 EV charging stations are currently operational in tier 2 cities in the country (as on April 1, 2025). The government recently said that with a financial outlay of Rs 2,000 crore, the PM E-Drive scheme will support the installation of approximately 72,000 EV public charging stations across the country. These stations will be strategically deployed along 50 National Highway corridors, within high-traffic destinations such as metro cities, toll plazas, railway stations, airports, fuel outlets, and state highways, the Ministry of Heavy Industries had said in a statement.
