Rakhi rush chokes city markets, packs trains, buses

1 2 3 4 Jaipur: City markets, bus stands, and railway stations were overwhelmed with festive crowds on Friday as women in large numbers shopped for glittering Rakhis ahead of Raksha Bandhan , which falls Saturday. The Walled City's busy lanes — from Maniharon Ka Raasta and Johari Bazaar to Chandpole Bazaar — were packed from morning till night, with shoppers buying Rakhis, gifts, and sweets for their brothers. Tradition and variety kept the markets buzzing. "There are so many metallic Rakhis this year. I have been visiting the walled city since childhood with my mother, and now I'm here with my daughter," said Satita Lalwani, a housewife from Malviya Nagar. The festival extends to sisters-in-law also. "It is customary to tie a Rakhi to sisters-in-law as well. We carry sweets for the entire family — nephews and nieces included," said Asha Rani, 28, from Shyam Nagar, who was picking out gifts at Chandpole Bazaar. The festival rush was equally visible at Sindhi Camp bus stand, where passengers queued for services to Bharatpur, Agra, Kota and Delhi. Most buses were fully booked. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Bids: New Container Houses – Take A Look At The Prices! Private buses also reported full occupancy, with latecomers struggling to find seats. At Jaipur railway station, incoming and outgoing trains were packed, with waiting lists stretching long. Many without confirmed reservations boarded anyway, risking penalties. "I applied for reservation but it was not confirmed. The journey is unavoidable, so we took the risk," said a passenger boarding the Puja Express to Delhi Cantt with family. The congestion is being fuelled by the extended holiday stretch, with Independence Day and Janmashtami falling in the following week. Traders expect brisk business to continue through the weekend, while transport officials brace for sustained passenger traffic. Bus operators warn of strike if not paid for Amit Shah rally

Jaipur: Private bus operators have issued strike warnings, seeking complete payment for their vehicles utilised during Union home minister Amit Shah's gathering at Dadiya village in Jaipur Thursday. According to the operators, the state govt has only reimbursed fuel expenses, despite the standard protocol of including a Rs 5,000 daily detention fee. "The govt wants to pay only the fuel charge. Forget about what we earn as profit, now we need to pay the drivers and the helpers from our own pocket for those days," said Kailash Chand Sharma, president of Private Bus Operators' Association of Rajasthan. Bus operators have already written to deputy chief minister and transport minister Prem Chand Bairwa to take the matter seriously and release their remaining payments. The bus owners also pointed out discriminatory treatment, stating that RSRTC buses received comprehensive fare payments from the govt. According to norms, whenever the govt hires private buses, the govt pays them around 50 paisa per seat per km for fuel charge and the detention charge of Rs 5,000 per day. For RSRTC, the govt pays a minimum of Rs 18,400 for 400 km and 24 hours. Above this, Rs 46 per km or Rs 18,400 per 24 hours. "Generally, both RSRTC and private bus provide 50-seater buses on rent. If a bus travels 400 km in 24 hours, RSRTC gets Rs 18,400 from the govt. Whereas, private bus operators get Rs 10,000 as fuel charge and another Rs 5,000 for detention charges. For the home minister's rally, the govt only paid Rs 10,000," said Sharma. Officials from transport department refused to comment. "We have made the payment with funds available with us. We informed the terms and conditions to the bus owners," an official said.

RSRTC floats third tender for 300 electric buses, aims full transition on NCR routes by 2026

The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation ( RSRTC ) has floated a fresh tender — the third in a series — to procure 300 electric buses for operation within the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), Times of India reports. The move is part of the state-run transport body's broader plan to phase out its current diesel-powered fleet in favour of cleaner, electric alternatives. Officials said the latest tender has been designed with two components: one that includes charging infrastructure for the EVs and another that excludes it. Operators will be taken on contract and paid up to ₹60 per kilometre. This tender follows earlier unsuccessful attempts in December 2024 and May 2025. "Due to the two-fold nature of the tender, we have not received the kind of bids we anticipated. However, we're hopeful that this round will generate better participation. The 300 EVs were part of the commitment made in the state budget," said a senior RSRTC official. A long term strategy The corporation plans to replace a total of 900 diesel buses on NCR routes with electric vehicles by June 2026 in accordance with guidelines issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). Officials said the current tender is a part of that broader strategy. In addition to this, RSRTC is also pursuing the procurement of another 600 EV buses under the central government's PM E-Drive scheme . 'Although the scheme is primarily designed for intra-city operations, we have made a special request to the Centre for inclusion under intercity operations, explaining the needs of RSRTC,' said RSRTC chairperson Shubhra Singh. The state government has extended a sovereign guarantee for these 600 buses under PM E-Drive, reinforcing its commitment to cleaner public transport and enhanced air quality in the region.

RSRTC issues third tender to procure 300 EV buses for Delhi-NCR routes, ET Infra

Advt The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) has issued a tender for the third time to procure electric vehicle buses. The corporation plans to acquire 300 electric buses which are to be deployed on routes within the National Capital Region (NCR). Officials said that electric buses will be taken on contract, and bus operators will be paid up to ₹60 per km. Before this, tenders were invited in December 2024 and May 2025. Officials added that the tender for 300 buses is two-fold: one with the infrastructure for charging the buses and the second without charging infrastructure. The corporation aims to procure a total of 900 EVs, which will replace the existing diesel-based fleet used for these routes. For the initial 300 buses, RSRTC has floated the tender, said officials."Due to the two-fold nature of the tender, we have not received bids as expected till now. The tender has been floated for the 300 EVs that were announced in the state budget. By next month, we'll be able to understand what the response of the bidders is," said a senior said that by June 2026, RSRTC will replace all its 900 buses currently plying on the Delhi-NCR routes with EV buses complying with the guidelines of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). The corporation is also working on procuring 600 EV buses as part of a central government scheme, PM E-Drive, for which the state government has also given the sovereign guarantee, said officials."The PM E-Drive, which is the scheme of the Department of Heavy Industries, is primarily for intra-city operations, but we have requested the central government to allow us to procure buses under this scheme due to the requirements, explaining our situation," said Shubhra Singh, RSRTC chairperson.
