Rajasthan CM announces free bus travel for women on Raksha Bandhan

Jaipur, August 5 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Tuesday announce free travel for women in state roadway buses on the day on Raksha Bandhan on August 9 and the following day.
According to an official statement, the free travel facility will be available to women for journeys within the state limits of Rajasthan on August 9 and 10.
This initiative marks the first time women will be allowed to travel for free on roadways buses for two consecutive days. Earlier, they were allowed to travel free of cost only on the day of Raksha Bandhan.
The RSRTC issued the order for free travel in all categories of buses excluding AC, Volvo and All India permit buses. PTI SDA NB

Goa govt launches Homestay and Bed and Breakfast Scheme

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Panaji, Aug 7 (PTI) The Goa government on Thursday launched its 'Homestay and Bed and Breakfast Scheme' to boost rural and community-based tourism. Under the scheme, which was formally launched by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant at the Secretariat in Porvorim, local residents operating homestays in hinterland areas will be offered financial incentives and support. 'The Homestay Scheme is focused on promoting hinterland tourism and empowering women operators by giving them a platform to showcase their offerings. It will improve access to wildlife sanctuaries and village destinations," Sawant said. Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte highlighted the scheme's alignment with the state's 'Goa Beyond Beaches' vision. 'This is a focused effort to empower women and promote community-based tourism. Most homestays are run by women, and this scheme will strengthen their role in the tourism economy," he said. The minister said MoUs with platforms like Airbnb and ongoing training programmes will help scale up rural tourism in Goa. State Tourism Director Kedar Naik said the scheme is aimed at promoting regenerative tourism and empowering women and youth entrepreneurs. 'The scheme marks a strategic shift from policy to implementation. It offers both fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, simplified registration, quality classification of homestays, and promotional support through the state tourism department's platforms. Under the scheme, eligible establishments in Sattari, Sanguem, Dharbandora, Bicholim, Canacona, Ponda, and Quepem talukas will receive a one-time grant of Rs 2 lakh," Naik said. 'They will also benefit from training, marketing assistance, and subsidised participation in tourism trade fairs. The scheme will be valid for five years and may be extended further," he added. Bicholim MLA Chandrakant Shetye, Mayem MLA Premendra Shet, Tourism Secretary Sanjeev Ahuja, among others, were present at the event. These initiatives aim to ease travel for women visiting their brothers and families during Rakhi celebrations. Here's a complete list of states offering complimentary bus services along with the dates and key details. Uttar Pradesh: 3 Days of Free Travel Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced free bus travel for women from August 8 to August 10. The offer is valid on UPSRTC and city buses across both urban and rural routes. To handle the expected surge in passenger traffic, additional buses will be deployed throughout the state. Haryana: Free Travel for Women and Children Haryana will provide free bus rides to women and children under 15 years of age starting from 12 PM on August 8 until midnight on August 9. The offer is valid for intrastate buses, including those operating to Delhi and Chandigarh, as confirmed by Transport Minister Anil Vij. Rajasthan: Two-Day Complimentary Travel Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has extended the Raksha Bandhan travel benefit to cover August 9 and 10, marking the first time the state has provided this offer for two days. The free rides will be available on all state-run buses within Rajasthan. Madhya Pradesh: Free City Rides and Cash Benefits Women in Bhopal and Indore can travel free on city buses on August 9. Additionally, under the Ladli Behna Yojana, eligible women will receive a Rs 1,500 Raksha Bandhan bonus and a Rs 250 festive gift. The state has disbursed Rs 43.9 crore to over 28 lakh women, including LPG subsidies. Uttarakhand and Tricity Area: Continuing Traditions Uttarakhand continues its annual tradition of free bus rides for women and children, provided by the state transport corporation. In Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula, women can enjoy limited free bus services within the Tricity on Rakhi day. Year-Round Free Bus States Punjab, Karnataka, and Delhi already offer year-round free bus travel for women. In Delhi, however, this benefit is limited to local women on DTC buses.
