Youth of Bihar no longer want speeches, but employment: Rahul Gandhi
His remarks came a day after a large crowd gathered at the Maharozgaar Mela (mega employment fair) organised by the Youth Congress in Patna.
"The massive crowd at the Mahrozgar Mela is not just a gathering but a message--that the youth of Bihar no longer want speeches, but employment to shape their future. The way the BJP and Nitish government have plunged Bihar into the fire of unemployment, lakhs of youths are forced to migrate for livelihood, leaving behind their village, their family... everything," said Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi, in a post on X.
Emphasising the importance of local job opportunities, Gandhi added that the Congress and the INDIA alliance were focused on finding solutions rather than making empty promises.
"The youth of Bihar are hardworking, capable, and talented--they only need local and respectable employment. Now, the beginning of change has arrived. Congress and the INDIA alliance are not just bringing promises, but solutions. Our focus is clear--rights to skills, employment for every youth, stopping migration, keeping every family together," he said.
The Youth Congress also posted on X, saying that the turnout at the employment fair reflected the seriousness of the state's unemployment crisis. "After Jaipur and Delhi, this was another effort of ours so that qualified youths could get job opportunities through the employment fair," it said.
Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently announced several measures to address public welfare and job creation. On Friday, Kumar said that electricity would be provided free of charge across Bihar. He also mentioned that the government had approved Rs 50,000 crore for 430 new schemes to benefit the people.
"During the previous government's tenure, there was no electricity. There was electricity for only eight hours, even in Patna. We managed all of it. Consumers used to pay a significant amount of money for their electricity bills. We have decided that electricity will be provided for free. We will hold a cabinet meeting and will decide on the same today itself," Kumar said, while addressing a gathering in Motihari in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He further promised, "We have already given 10 lakh government jobs to youth and are working to provide more. In the coming five years, we will decide on providing jobs to one crore youth."
Kumar also announced that the state government would increase the pension amount for differently abled persons, senior citizens, and widows to Rs 1,100 per month.

CM warns against ‘Swiggy politics', calls for return to ideological values
Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday expressed deep concern over what he termed as the rise of 'Swiggy politics' — a system driven by instant delivery of political gains at the cost of ideology, democratic principles, and grassroots party workers. Speaking at the S Jaipal Reddy Democratic Award presentation ceremony, the CM said, "Swiggy politics is replacing ideology-based politics. Political parties are increasingly focused on who can deliver quick results, sidelining core values. This is a dangerous trend for Indian democracy." He lamented the growing role of political managers and event management agencies in the electoral process, saying they are replacing committed party activists. "Politics devoid of ideology and dedicated workers is a serious threat to the nation's democratic fabric," he said. We must reverse this trend before it permanently damages our democracy." He also stressed the need to revive student politics based on ideology and democratic values to nurture future leaders. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The 13 Most Luxurious Hotels In The World Undo Highlighting the Congress govt's commitment to democratic openness, the CM said the opposition is free to express its views in the Assembly. "Since I assumed office, no opposition MLA has been suspended. The dharna chowk at Indira Park has been reopened for all citizens to protest and raise their voices," he said. Paying tribute to the late Union minister Jaipal Reddy, Revanth described him as one of the most principled parliamentarians. "Though he wasn't initially in favour of Telangana, he played a crucial role in making statehood a reality. His intervention in the Union cabinet and support from leaders like Sushma Swaraj ensured the passage of the AP Reorganisation Bill." Revanth added that Congress leader Sonia Gandhi once told him she was moved to support Telangana statehood due to Jaipal Reddy's compelling advocacy.

Now, 72-yr-old Cooch Behar resident receives NRC notice from Assam
Jalpaiguri/Kolkata: Days after Dinhata resident Uttam Kumar Brajabashi received an NRC notice from Assam, leading to a strong protest from Trinamool led by CM Mamata Banerjee, another resident from Cooch Behar has received a similar notice. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Septuagenarian Nishikanta Das — a resident of Kushiyar Bari in Ghoksadanga Latapata panchayat of Mathabhanga-II block — received the notice from Assam Foreigners' Tribunal in the third week of April. The notice, written in Assamese, accused Das of illegally entering India from Bangladesh between 1966 and 1971, and sought his reply by May 21. Das appeared before the tribunal and presented his Aadhaar, voter ID and ration card as proof of his Indian citizenship, but these were not accepted. A worried Das then sought help from the district administration. Das said he went to Assam for work in 2001. During that time, Assam Police had detained him once, suspecting him to be a Bangladeshi. However, his employer there clarified that he was not a Bangladeshi. Based on this statement — and after verifying all his documents in Assam — the police had released him. Das returned home after working in Assam for about six months. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, 72-year-old Das said the tribunal officials asked for his father's voter list and identity papers. "I submitted my voter ID, Aadhaar and ration card to the tribunal, but they did not accept them. I was asked to show my father's name on the voter list. My father passed away some 45 years ago and I had no ready documents. Even though I have found that document now, I have decided not to approach the tribunal again," he claimed. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Trinamool Cooch Behar district Abhijit De Bhowmik visited Das's house on Saturday and assured him of all help. "BJP is doing all this to create fear among Bengalis," Bhowmik said. Responding to Bhowmik's claims, BJP pointed fingers at TMC. Mathabhanga BJP MLA Sushil Barman said: "Nishikanta went to work in Assam. He will have to show his documents. But there's nothing to worry, we are with him. Trinamool is unnecessarily dragging the matter for doing politics." Barman also visited Das at his home during the day. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh claimed that Rajbanshis were being harassed just like Matuas. "Whether you (BJP) are detaining Matuas or sending NRC letters to Rajbanshis, you are harassing Hindus. Are they not Hindus? You are not allowing any community in Bengal to live in peace," Ghosh said. Das, now an egg-seller, has two sons and three daughters, all of whom are married and settled in Alipurduar. His wife died eight years ago. Locals said they have known Das for a long time. "I've known him since childhood. He's a bit older than me. Nishikanta has been here for a long time, only going to another state for work for a few months. Due to his age, he hasn't gone out of here for a long time now," said Sumit Barman, a neighbour.

Gujarat faces backlash over appointing retired teachers in schools
1 2 3 Ahmedabad: A recent circular issued by the Gujarat education department regarding the appointment of retired teachers to fill vacant positions in govt schools has sparked widespread criticism and protests across the state. Critics have labelled the move as "absurd," arguing that employment opportunities should instead be provided to qualified unemployed youth. As per the circular, retired teachers are to be temporarily assigned to vacant posts following the recent recruitment rounds for permanent and gyan sahayaks (teaching assistants). However, many education stakeholders have questioned the logic, pointing out that most retired teachers already receive significant monthly pensions, often exceeding Rs 50,000, and are unlikely to be interested in working again for a nominal honorarium. The Gujarat School Management Federation has formally objected to the decision, sending a letter of protest to the Commissioner of Schools. The letter highlighted that in many Indian states, the retirement age for teachers is 60 or even 62 years. It suggested that instead of reappointing retirees, the state should reconsider its retirement policies and prioritise employment for younger and eligible candidates. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indonesia: Unsold Sofas at Bargain Prices (Prices May Surprise You) Sofas | Search Ads Search Now Undo You Can Also Check: Ahmedabad AQI | Weather in Ahmedabad | Bank Holidays in Ahmedabad | Public Holidays in Ahmedabad Opponents also argue that assigning retired teachers, who have already completed long service, deprives opportunities for TAT-qualified and postgraduate trained educators who are currently unemployed. Additionally, any honorarium received by retired teachers would be added to their existing pension income, potentially subjecting them to higher income tax liabilities, making the role financially unviable. Education activists and youth organisations are calling for the immediate withdrawal of the circular and urging the govt to create avenues for fresh talent in the education system.
