Lalu, however, no longer uses his surname Yadav.
The baby was born at a Kolkata hospital on Tuesday, which in Hinduism is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Tarun Kumar, former head of the Hindi department in Patna University, said the name 'Iraj' has Persian origin, meaning "shining like a sun".
The name of the baby was announced by Lalu through his X handle on Wednesday. "So, our granddaughter Katyayani's little brother is named 'Iraj' by me and Rabri Devi," Lalu wrote in his social media post on Wednesday.
Explaining the reason behind naming his grandson Iraj, Lalu said, "Katyayani was born on Katyayani Ashtami, the sixth day of auspicious Navratri and this little bundle of joy is born on Bajrang Bali Hanuman Ji's Mangal day of Tuesday, therefore naming him 'Iraj'."
Thanking everyone for their best wishes and blessings, Lalu said that the newborn and his mother are doing well and in good health.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta attacked: AAP, Congress condemn the attack, raise concerns over women's safety
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress condemned the attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, while also questioning the police over the issue of women's safety in the national capital. Ms. Gupta was allegedly attacked during a 'Jan Sunwai' programme at her official residence in Civil Lines on Wednesday (August 20, 2025) morning, the BJP said. According to a senior police officer, the accused has been detained and further inquiry is underway. Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stressed that in a democratic system, differences of opinion and opposition are acceptable, but there can be no place for violence. 'I am confident that Delhi Police will take appropriate action. I hope the Chief Minister remains completely safe and healthy,' he said in a post on X in Hindi. Condemning the attack on her successor, Atishi echoed similar views as the AAP supremo. 'The attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is highly condemnable. In a democracy, there is space for dissent and opposition, but none for violence,' she said in a post on X in Hindi. She expressed hope that Delhi Police will take the strictest action against the culprits. 'I also wish that the Chief Minister is completely safe,' she added in the post. Former Delhi Minister and AAP Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj said all parties should unequivocally condemn such acts. 'There is no place for violence in a democracy. We fully slam this incident. Whenever former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was attacked, BJP spokespersons said that people were angry and hence the incidents happened. We are showing a big heart. The people of Delhi are unhappy with Gupta but violence is not the solution. Any kind of violence is not justified,' he said. Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav criticised the attack and called it extremely sad. 'It is condemnable that the Chief Minister was attacked. This also exposes the fact that women are not safe in Delhi. People come here for safety. The police should wake up and address the issue of women's safety,' he added.

Haryana Government Hands Over Teacher's Death Case To CBI After Outrage
Chandigarh: The Haryana government is going to hand over the probe into the death of a 19-year-old teacher last week in Bhiwani to the CBI following public outrage. "The state government and police administration are working with full seriousness and transparency to ensure justice for our daughter Manisha from Bhiwani and her family," Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said on Wednesday, while adding that he has been continuously seeking updates about the case. "Based on the family's demand, the Haryana government is going to hand over this case to the CBI for an impartial investigation. Full justice will be ensured in this matter," Mr Saini posted on X in Hindi. — Nayab Saini (@NayabSainiBJP) August 19, 2025 Earlier, the Haryana government on Tuesday ordered the suspension of mobile internet, bulk SMS and dongle services in Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts for 48 hours (from 11 am on Tuesday) amid public outrage over the death of the teacher. Manisha's body was found in a field in Bhiwani on August 13. She had gone missing on August 11, after leaving the school, purportedly to enquire about admission at a nursing college. On Monday, police claimed that the investigations pointed to the teenager dying by suicide by ingesting poison. However, her father, Sanjay, on Tuesday rejected the finding and refused to cremate the body, demanding "justice." He said, "The administration is saying that my daughter committed suicide. But I can say that she can never commit suicide. I want justice." While protests over the teacher's death raged on, and politicians waded into the matter, alleging breakdown of law and order, the emergence of a "suicide note" in the death case on Monday turned the investigation on its head. Bhiwani Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar said the purported note was found near Manisha's body in a bag, which also had her Aadhaar card and other documents. He also said that there was proof of Manisha buying insecticide. "In the viscera sample, the presence of insecticide has been confirmed in the body. So, there is self-purchase, there is a suicide note, there is poison in the body," he said. Police also said that the post-mortem reports have ruled out the possibility of any sexual assault. The villagers had also questioned the latest findings and continued to block a key road in Bhiwani in protest. They had said Manisha's cremation would not take place till "justice" is done. The death caused massive outrage, with people blocking key roads in the district and the opposition parties, including the Congress, demanding a CBI probe. The opposition parties flayed the BJP-led state government, claiming that the alleged murder was proof of a "breakdown of law and order" under the saffron party. Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the role of the state government and the police had been "negligent and irresponsible", and an "unfortunate attempt is being made to prove the whole case as a suicide." Thackeray brand fails in BEST Credit Society elections
Mumbai: Shiv Sena(UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) alliance failed to secure any seats in the BEST Credit Society elections. Out of 21 candidates, the panel led by labour leader Shashank Rao won 14 seats, and the panel led by BJP legislator Prasad Lad secured seven. It was the maiden test for the estranged Thackeray brothers, who had come together on the Hindi language issue, and later decided to stay together in view of the upcoming elections to the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation. However, the Thackeray brand has failed to show magic in the BEST elections. It has come as a major blow to both brothers, who are gearing up for the BMC elections. The BJP-led Mahayuti has said that it will win the civic body elections this time. The five-yearly elections of The Best Employees Co-op Credit Society Ltd were held on Monday. Despite heavy rain, the workers responded overwhelmingly, and a voter turnout of 83 per cent was recorded. This election was considered to be prestigious for the Thackeray brothers and the BJP, especially MLA Prasad Lad, who had, from day one of the campaign, claimed that the Thackeray brand wouldn't work and they would not be able to win a single seat. It was expected that there would be a major fight between the Thackeray brothers and MLA Prasad Lad in this election, as both groups were claiming victory on social media. However, the real contest took place between Prasad Lad's panel and Shashank Rao's panel. Most of the members of Shiv Sena(UBT)'s labour wing, Kamgar Sena, are members of this credit union, and therefore, the Thackeray brothers were optimistic of scoring a victory. However, due to a lack of preparation, the Kamgar Sena fought the elections, hoping that the Thackeray brand would work and they would be able to ride to victory on the alliance between the two brothers. The Kamgar Sena even nominated a woman activist from the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. The Shashank Rao panel and Prasad Lad panel, during their campaign, flagged the alleged irregularities committed by the outgoing board of directors, dominated by the Kamgar Sena. This election was considered a rehearsal for the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation elections. Therefore, the results of this election attracted the attention of not only BEST workers but also political circles and workers from Shiv Sena(UBT) and MNS and also from the BJP. The election was held at 35 centres, including all the BEST centres and offices. The counting of votes was to take place at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the Wadala depot. However, due to the rain, the counting officials could not arrive on time. Therefore, the counting of votes began after 2 p.m. The counting of votes continued till late at night. Since there were a total of 35 centres and 150 candidates, the counting of the ballot papers was delayed. The election results were announced on Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, the BJP has targeted the Thackeray brothers after their alliance failed to win a single seat in the Best Credit Society elections. BJP legislator Prasad Lad, in his post on X, taunted, 'Thackeray" brand 21 faced 000, 00/21, meaning the brand's boss could not win a single seat...' On the other hand, state BJP chief spokesperson Keshav Upadhye in his post on X said, 'If you add up two zeros, where one has nothing left to lose and the other has nothing left to gain, and no matter how many zeros you add to them, the answer to that math is zero, what will happen if you don't recognise the answer that even unschooled children know?... To find the answer to this question, look at the election results of 'Best Kamgar Patpedhi'! Till yesterday, two zeros were challenging us to measure our worth, today they have realized their worth!!'
