A FORMER SPFL footballer has been jailed after killing a cyclist by ploughing into him in his Mercedes while his kids were in the car.
Mansfield Town ace Lucas Akins, 36, was driving his Mercedes G350 near Huddersfield when he hit 33-year-old Adrian Daniel.

He previously spent two seasons on the books at Hamilton Accies in the late noughties, also spending part of the time on loan at Partick Thistle.
The cyclist was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but couldn't be saved - dying ten days later on March 27, 2022.
Akins has now been jailed for a total of 14 months after admitting causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.
Savanna Daniel, Adrian's wife, told the court how her life was "changed forever" following the dad's death.
She said she was alerted to the tragedy by a computer on his bike that automatically contacted her as she was Adrian's emergency contact.
Savanna said she went to the scene before Adrian was taken to hospital where he sadly died 11 days later.
She added: "I was told the adrenaline junkie I knew and loved wasn't coming back. On Sunday 27th, Adrian passed.
"Since that day, it has been like hell and a nightmare I'm not waking up from.
"I know it's happened, I'm not living in a fairytale but it was avoidable.
"I was unable to talk about Adrian without falling apart. I was angry with him for leaving us.

"I was angry because there was no reason for Adrian to leave us that day. This was too simple a collision to take his life."
Leeds Crown Court was told the horror unfolded on March 17, 2022, as Adrian had cycled in the village of Netherton.
Akins was taking his young daughter to a piano class along with his seven-month-old baby when he approached a junction.
Prosecutor Carmel Pearson said: "Traffic is obliged to give way at Huddersfield Road, which is what the defendant should have done.
"He intended to turn right into Huddersfield Road.
"The defendant didn't give way at a give way sign.
"There is no stop sign or white line at that junction but there is an obligation to give way.
"The defendant on the footage, albeit was driving slowly, pulled out at the give way junction and struck Adrian Daniel.

"It was too late for Adrian Daniel to brake and he suffered a catastrophic head injury."
The court was told that Akins had knowledge of the road so should have known to give way at the junction.
In his police interview, the footballer said he did not see the cyclist.
Along with his jail term, Akins was also banned from driving for two years.
Sentencing, Judge Alexander Menary told the footballer: "You failed to see Mr Daniel and you drove into collision with him.
"The impact was devastating and he was thrown from his bicycle.
"It was apparent to the emergency workers that he had sustained grave injuries."
Just hours after Akins pleaded guilty to the offence last month, he took to the pitch for Mansfield Town in a 0-0 draw vs Wigan.
Manager Nigel Clough later discussed his decision to include Akins in his team, saying: "We've known about it for some time, it's not just happened but we're not in a position to comment."
The striker came through the youth academy at Huddersfield and made his debut for them in 2007.
In addition to his time at Hamilton and Partick, he had stints at Northwich Victoria, Tranmere Rovers and Stevenage.
Akins had eight years at Burton Albion before he joined Mansfield in January 2022.
He has made four international appearances for Caribbean nation Grenada, who he qualifies for through his mum.
Mansfield Town today said it was "considering its position" after news of Akins' imprisonment.
A spokesman said: "Mansfield Town Football Club acknowledges today's decision by Leeds Crown Court concerning Lucas Akins following a tragic road traffic accident in March 2022.
"Mansfield Town Football Club offers its sincere and deepest condolences to the family of Adrian Daniel at this difficult time.
"The club is considering its position with regards to Lucas and will be making no further comment at this stage."

Alex Salmond's family vow to clear his name as ex-FM's widow set to sue Scottish Government
Christina Hendry fears the stress of defending himself had hastened his death 'FIGHT FOR TRUTH' Alex Salmond's family vow to clear his name as ex-FM's widow set to sue Scottish Government ALEX Salmond's niece has pledged to clear his name as it emerged his widow is suing the Scottish Government over its botched sexual harassment investigation. Moira Salmond, 88, has appointed lawyers to reactivate the ex-First Minister's case seeking reparations for his family after a judge ruled the probe against him was unlawful, unfair and tainted by bias. 3 Christina fears the stress of defending himself had hastened her uncle's death Credit: Andrew Barr 3 Moira Salmond during the public memorial service for her late husband Credit: PA Advertisement 3 The case is reportedly being bankrolled by wealthy friends of Mr Salmond Credit: Getty Allies claim the investigation, and subsequent criminal charges which were dismissed by a jury, hastened the SNP colossus's death from a heart attack aged 69 last year. His niece Christina Hendry, 30, told The Scottish Sun: 'I will do whatever it takes to continue my uncle's work and continuing to clear his name. 'My hope is that the truth comes to light. And that those who dismissed claims of this conspiracy theory are proven wrong.' Advertisement A source close to the family confirmed the case is in an 'adjustment period' where both sides make written pleadings. A top legal team has been hired, including a senior investigator. The case is reportedly being bankrolled by wealthy friends of Mr Salmond. He went on trial at the High Court in Edinburgh in 2020 and was acquitted of 14 charges of sexually assaulting nine women. Advertisement Christina told The Scottish Sun on Sunday how she fears the stress of defending himself and trying to prove the conspiracy had hastened his death. She also hit out at his successor Nicola Sturgeon for dragging his name 'through the dirt' to boost sales of her memoir. Asked how her aunt was coping with Ms Sturgeon's fresh criticism amid a blaze of publicity to promote her book, Christina said: 'She should not have to be going through this and neither should any of the family. Five of the biggest BOMBSHELL moments from Nicola Sturgeon's new memoir 'I find it very distasteful. In some ways it is quite cruel. 'She is using his name for relevance, to promote her book, to earn money — she could have said these things in the past few years. Advertisement 'She has chosen to wait until he is no longer here to defend himself. It's left to the family to deal with this and there's an element of cowardice to that.' The Scottish Government said: 'It would not be appropriate to comment on live litigation.'

Notorious nursery monster and babysitter killer become 'best friends' in jail
Evil nursery worker Roksana Lecka, 22, who assaulted several toddlers, and babysitter killer Sabrina Kouider, 35, have become best pals behind bars at HMP Bronzefield Two of Britain's most twisted inmates have become best friends in prison and even earned a sickening nickname. Nursery worker Roksana Lecka, who attacked 21 toddlers, and babysitter killer Sabrina Kouider, have been dubbed the "glam lags" and have reportedly become "inseparable". The duo are inmates at HMP Bronzefield and allegedly "strut around like they own the place", according to other prisoners who have seen their antics. Despite the severity of their crimes, the pair have reportedly displayed more vanity than contrition and would dress up and cover themselves with fake eyelashes and make-up. It comes as a former Coronation Street resident is sentenced to four years in prison offscreen. It's been claimed they sit around, hang out, and mock other prisoners at the all-female jail, and neither has shown "any remorse" for their sickening crimes, according to those who saw them on a daily basis. Their brazen behaviour and appearance has even earned them the new title and angered even hardened criminals. One former prisoner, who was serving a sentence for assault, said: "Lecka would walk around like she had not done anything - she looks down on people. "She is very good friends with Sabrina Kouider, who killed her babysitter. They are best pals. Sabrina is a narcissistic, horrible person. They will chill together, sit up, talk about people, laugh at them, and make fun of people. They are going on like they own the place. "I would see them every day. I would not talk to Roksana as I couldn't stand what she had done. She was boastful and thinks so highly of herself. She was very vain - always dressed up with eyelashes and make-up on. They were more focused on their image than showing any remorse for what they did." Lecka, 22, was found guilty of 21 counts of child cruelty in June after she abused multiple children in her care following a six-week trial at Kingston Crown Court. She was brought to justice after a Met investigation found Lecka had abused children as young as ten months at two separate nurseries in Twickenham and Hounslow between October 2023 and June 2024. She reportedly became "inseperable" with Kouider, who once had a baby with a Boyzone member before murdering her babysitter. The then 35-year-old was sentenced to life in prison in 2018 alongside her partner Ouissem Medouni, 40, after they tortured their French nanny Sophie Lionnet, 21, before killing her and throwing her body on a bonfire. They were found guilty of her murder in Wimbledon after a trial heard they had a deluded belief she was in league with Mark Walton, the ex-Boyzone band member turned music mogul, with whom Kouider once had a relationship. The fellow prisoner added: "I was appalled and shocked by it. I was disgusted - the way she walked about like she had not done anything. I overheard conversations where she was boasting she was going to get off. "After I got out, I saw on the news a few days ago the scale of what she had done. It was disgusting. I should have known, the fact she befriended Sabrina I should have known she was guilty. "Roksana seemed gleeful. She had no remorse whatsoever for what she did. She was boastful and just thinks so highly of herself. The prison is run by Sodexo and a spokesperson for HMP Bronzefield spokesperson said: 'We don't comment on individuals."
