After 10 years of rumors, Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista may finally be signed on to play the villain in Henry Cavill's Highlander remake
Actor Dave Bautista of Dune and Guardians of the Galaxy fame is reportedly nearing taking on the role of the villainous Kurgan in John Wick director Chad Stahelski's upcoming Highlander reboot movie, which stars Henry Cavill in the lead role (via Deadline).
Interestingly enough, Bautista has been rumored to be in talks for the role since 2015 - a full 10 years ago - with IGN reporting on the rumor all the way back then when the reboot was scheduled to be directed by Cedric Nicholas Trojan.
Did it really take 10 years for Bautista to finally land the role of the Kurgan? Well, it's hard to say. The project has moved around a bit, now landing at Amazon. It's possible Bautista was indeed in negotiations back in 2015 before coming back around to the role in 2025. It's also possible that the current filmmakers were inspired by the long running rumors to actually consider the WWE wrestler turned actor for the movie.
The original 1986 Highlander kicked off a franchise centering on the adventures of actor Christopher Lambert's Connor McLeod, an immortal warrior competing to be the last undying swordsman standing in duels that only end when one combatant's head is lopped off.
The Kurgan, originally played by eternally menacing character actor Clancy Brown, is the main antagonist of the classic Highlander film, slicing, dicing, and ravaging his way through the film on a collision course with MacLeod.
Former Superman actor Henry Cavill will star as Connor MacLoed in the remake, with Russell Crowe also rumored to star, potentially as MacLeod's mentor Ramirez, played by Sean Connery in the original film.

'This journey has been so special full of peace, excitement, and so much grace.' She also thanked God for being 'so faithful' and said: 'His kindness in this season has left (us) in awe.' Brandon shared Savannah and her brother Seth Blackstock with his first wife, Melissa Ashworth, whom he married in 2001 and divorced in 2012. He was later married to Kelly Clarkson from 2013 to 2022, with whom he had two children – daughter River, 11, and son Remington, nine. A spokesperson said about his death: 'It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. 'He bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time.' The day before Brandon's death, Kelly, 43, announced she was cancelling the remaining August dates of her Las Vegas residency, saying she needed to be 'fully present' for their children as her ex-husband was 'ill'. Sydney Sweeney confesses she wasn't prepared for the emotional toll of fame amid political controversies
Sydney Sweeney is no stranger to the spotlight — but that doesn't mean she's comfortable living in it. The "Euphoria" star spoke candidly about the emotional toll fame has taken on her in an interview conducted just before the release of her controversial American Eagle "Good Jeans" ad "Privacy [is] huge," she said during an interview with The Times UK. "You don't realize how much that means until you lose it. I see all the time, 'Oh, they sold themselves, they knew what they were signing up for'. But 18-year-old me had no idea what she was signing up for." Now 27, Sweeney admitted the constant intrusion — from headlines to photographers camped outside her house — has become unbearable. "[It's] crazy," she said, referring to paparazzi snapping photos at her home. "None of it's real," she added about the media narratives surrounding her. And while Sweeney continues to skyrocket to fame, she confessed that her ability to trust others is shrinking fast. "I've always been guarded," she said. "Definitely more so now. You let few people in who you trust." The reporter who spoke with Sweeney additionally pointed out that the Hollywood actress appeared visibly tense during what was supposed to be a 50-minute promo stop for a new film and a string of brand deals. Her discomfort "verged on annoyance," according to The Times UK. The reporter also speculated that while her conversation with Sweeney took place before the American Eagle ad was released, her "wariness" could be due to backlash from earlier controversies – in 2022, she faced another round of backlash after posting photos from her mother's birthday party. In the photos, some party-goers could be seen wearing red hats that read "Make Sixty Great Again," which many assumed to be a reference to President Donald Trump. At the time, she wrote on social media, "An innocent celebration for my moms milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions." The "Anyone But You" actress' comments come on the heels of her July American Eagle campaign. Sweeney broke the internet last month with a viral ad, as she laid down and fastened her jeans while saying, "Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color." The camera then panned up to her blue eyes. "My jeans are blue." The ad faced backlash after it was released, with some suggesting it had shades of "eugenics" and "White supremacy." According to Salon, the term "great genes" was historically used to "celebrate whiteness, thinness and attractiveness." American Eagle released a statement on its social media Aug. 1, saying, "'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone."
