Caste census result of Rahul's struggle: J&K Congress
Jammu, May 2 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee on Friday congratulated the Rahul Gandhi and the party leadership over the caste census in the country.
A unanimous resolution was adopted in a meeting here at Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters to express gratitude to the Congress leadership, especially Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, for the success of the struggle to pressure the government to concede the demand for a caste census in the Country.
The resolution moved by JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma was seconded by working president and former deputy chief minister Tara Chand and former minister Raman Bhalla.
The resolution was adopted unanimously by raising of hands and amid slogans in favour of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.
JKPCC working president Tara Chand, who presided over the meeting along with Raman Bhalla, said the struggle of Rahul Gandhi has finally yielded results as the BJP-led government accepted the demand raised by the Congress.
'The party demands that the caste census should be completed within a time-frame so that complete benefits reach the common man at the earliest,' the members demanded.
Working president Raman Bhalla said the announcement of a caste census was the result of Rahul's struggle.
The meeting also asked the party cadres in the border areas to remain in constant touch with the people and the administration in view of the prevailing situation, keeping a close watch on the activities on the border belt post Balakot terror attack.
The meeting strongly condemned Pakistan for the unprovoked firing on the border and LoC and reaffirmed the party's decision that it was fully behind the nation and the government to give a befitting response to Pakistan for backing the Pahalgam perpetrators.
Earlier a two-minutes silence was observed to mourn the death of veteran Congress leader and former union minister Girija Viyas.

According to the official Congress account on X, he is scheduled to address the 'Constitution Conference' and participate in multiple programs. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi visited Darbhanga, interacted with students, and discussed issues such as caste census and reservation. The LoP reached Ambedkar Hostel in Darbhanga in May to deliver an address despite being denied permission by Bihar Police, which also led to a case against him by the district administration. He emphasised the importance of social justice and criticised the government's policies, highlighting the need for a caste census, stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was forced to announce it due to public pressure. The Bihar Assembly elections are expected to be a multi-cornered contest with the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) and the BJP, facing off against the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the INC, and other parties. The last assembly elections were held in October-November 2020. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has won a simple majority in Bihar, winning 125 seats in a closely contested election. The BJP won 74 seats while the JD(U) secured 43 seats. The Mahagathbandhan, including Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and Left parties, managed to secure 110 seats in the state's 243-seat legislative assembly. The Bihar Legislative Assembly election for all 243 constituencies is scheduled to be held in October or November this year.

'Action taken against those visibly responsible': Siddaramaiah defends government's response in Bengaluru stampede case
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for politicising the stampede at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which claimed 11 lives and left dozens injured. The incident occurred during RCB's IPL victory celebrations on June 4. Responding to allegations from the BJP that the Congress-led state government was scapegoating the police, Siddaramaiah told ANI that action had been taken against officials found 'visibly responsible' and 'negligent in their duty.' 'They [BJP] are doing this for politics. I don't do politics. We have taken action against those who were found visibly responsible,' the Chief Minister said. 'The government acted only when pressure mounted. The real accused are Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, and Home Minister G Parameshwara. They should be investigated,' Vijayendra said. Following the tragedy, the government suspended multiple senior police officials, including Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda. He was replaced by senior IPS officer Seemant Kumar Singh, who officially took charge on Friday. The list of suspended officers includes Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar Vikash, DCP (Central) Shekhar HT, ACP Balakrishna, and Cubbon Park Police Inspector Girish AK. PM Modi inaugurates world's highest Chenab rail bridge in Reasi
Katra (J&K), June 6 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the world's highest Chenab rail bridge in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. The PM was accompanied by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Before the inauguration, the PM inspected the bridge and spoke to the engineers and the labourers, who turned the dream into a reality. The Chenab rail bridge is the architectural marvel; it is located at a height of 359 meters above the river, and is the world's highest railway arch bridge. It is a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. The 1,315-metre-long steel arch bridge is built to withstand seismic and wind conditions. A key impact of the bridge will be in enhancing connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. Through the Vande Bharat train moving on the bridge, it will take just about 3 hours to travel between Katra and Srinagar, reducing existing travel time by 2-3 hours. The 272-km USBRL project is built at a cost of around Rs 43,780 crore, and includes 36 tunnels (spanning 119 km) and 943 bridges. The project establishes all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country, aiming to transform regional mobility and drive socio-economic integration.
