Ruben Amorim 'believes £70m Benjamin Sesko can bring out the best in Rasmus Hojlund' - as Red Devils step up pursuit of RB Leipzig striker
Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly of the belief that the two young strikers can co-exist at the club and the capture of the Slovenian could bring out the best in the Hojlund.
Hojlund scored United's first goal in the 4-1 win over Bournemouth in Chicago and laid claim to another on the day that it emerged that RB Leipzig star Sesko is the club's No.1 striker target.
It has left the Dane's situation at Old Trafford in some doubt, two years after he joined United from Atalanta for £72million.
According to The Sun, Amorim is open to the idea of keeping Hojlund this summer and reckons the arrival of Sesko would provide competition that has been previouslly lacking.
The outlet claim that the Portuguese is very excited by the prospect of Sesko's arrival but would still prefer Hojlund to remain at the club but the Danish striker will be afforded the right to make a decision on his future.
After United's pre-season win over the Cherries, Amorim admitted that he doesn't know what the future holds for Hojlund amid their pursuit of Sesko.
'I am really happy with Rasmus,' said the United boss. 'I don't know what is going to happen until the end of the market. The important thing is that Rasmus is scoring goals. He's connecting really well with the team. He's improving.
'Again, I don't know what is going to happen until the market is closed. I'm really happy with the players that we had last season. We looked like a different team today. Let's continue with that.'
Goals from Hojlund, Patrick Dorgu, Amad Diallo and Ethan Williams put United in command before a late own-goal by Matthijs de Ligt gave Bournemouth some consolation. Hojlund claimed that he got a touch to Diallo's effort, but it was awarded to the Ivorian.
It was slick, impressive performance from United following Saturday's 2-1 win over West Ham in New Jersey, and Amorim is encouraged by what he has seen so far.
'I think it was a good game,' he added. 'We played with intensity. We were aggressive and that is something that we need to improve on from last season.
'I think we had better possessions compared to the last game, so they are listening. Of course, scoring first in the beginning of the game can change the confidence of the team.'

Bruno Fernandes has once again been linked with a sensational move to the Saudi Pro League, with Al-Nassr the latest club reportedly vying for his signature. Fernandes ultimately turned down the lucrative proposal at the wish of Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim, with the midfielder keen to prolong his career in Europe. But, according to Portuguese publication A Bola, Cristiano Ronaldo 's Al-Nassr are now considering tabling an offer for Fernandes. It's thought that the club's new coach Jorge Jesus - who gave Fernandes his Sporting Lisbon debut in 2017 - wants to make him the latest Portuguese star to embark on a Saudi switch. He would join Ronaldo, Otavio and more recently Joao Felix in Riyadh if a deal was complete. After a dismal year at Chelsea and later on loan at AC Milan, 25-year-old Felix made the move this week after Al-Nassr paid an initial £26million transfer fee to the Blues, which could rise to £43m. It would be something of a surprise to United fans if Bruno left now, just a couple of weeks ahead of the club's first game of the Premier League season against Arsenal. Announcing his decision to stay in Manchester in June, Fernandes said in a statement: 'It would have been an easy move. I had Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo there (at Al-Hilal), two people I have a great friendship with. 'But I want to stay at the highest level, play in big competitions, because I still feel capable. 'There was an opportunity. The president called me and asked if I wanted to go there. They were waiting for me. 'I spoke to coach Amorim and he asked me not to go. Manchester United didn't want to sell me. They don't need the money. If I had wanted to leave, they would have made it happen.' The loss of club captain Fernandes would come as a huge blow to United as they look to avenge a dire season in 2024/25. Amorim's side slumped to their worst ever Premier League finish of 15th, which was compounded by a disappointing 1-0 loss to Ange Postocoglou's Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final. Amorim and club officials have so far strengthened this summer with the signings of Bryan Mbuemo and Matheus Cunha, paying around £70m for each player. It's hoped the two Premier League-proven additions will boost a struggling Red Devils front line, which will be almost totally new-look come the start of next season. United are reportedly working on a deal to bring RB Leipzig frontman Benjamin Sesko to Old Trafford, with Rasmus Hojlund potentially going the other way in a swap. But it's thought the Red Devils need to offload players before they make an official bid, with a 'bomb squad' of four outcasts set for exits. While Marcus Rashford has already made his dream move to Barcelona, United are still trying to sort transfers which will see Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia leave the club. The quartet are not with United on their pre-season tour of America. After an impressive loan with Real Betis, Antony has been the subject of interest from Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and the Saudi Pro League this summer, but club officials in Manchester are yet to have received a formal offer. While Juventus are said to be interested in Jadon Sancho, who it's highly unlikely will stay at United after a break down in his relationship with Red Devils supporters. Revealed: Benjamin Sesko 'decides' between Man United and Newcastle as transfer saga finally nears end
Benjamin Sesko has reportedly made his decision on where he will be playing next season following months of speculation. The RB Leipzig striker has been at the centre of a fierce transfer battle between Manchester United and Newcastle, with both clubs identifying the 22-year-old as a key summer target. Now, a report in Slovenia claims the highly rated forward has settled on his next move — and it could trigger a major shake-up in the Premier League 's striker market. According to Delo, Sesko has decided to join Newcastle , with the Magpies beating off strong competition from Old Trafford to land one of Europe's most promising young attackers. The Slovenian outlet reports that Newcastle's proposal won out after a drawn-out saga that saw Arsenal, United, and Newcastle all linked. Arsenal dropped out earlier this summer, opting instead for Viktor Gyokeres, while United had turned their full attention to Sesko after ending their pursuit of Aston Villa 's Ollie Watkins. United's interest was led by director of recruitment Christopher Vivell, who previously worked with Sesko at RB Salzburg and has described the 6ft 4in forward as having the potential to become one of the world's top strikers. It is understood that Newcastle will be expected to pay Leipzig somewhere between £60m and £70m plus add-ons. Sesko scored 21 goals in all competitions last season and has 16 goals in 41 senior appearances for Slovenia. He has drawn comparisons to Erling Haaland for his blend of height, pace and technical ability — and is seen by Newcastle as a ready-made replacement should Isak get his wish. As for Man United, they may now be forced to explore alternatives. Amorim's side struggled badly in front of goal last season and were hoping Sesko would be the final piece in a new-look forward line. Rasmus Hojlund's future remains unclear, with the Dane insisting he wants to stay and fight for his place — but competition was always expected. United have also made enquiries about Brentford's Yoane Wissa, while Wolves' Jorgen Strand Larsen has been discussed too.
