Sanjay Bangar Blasted For 'Fat Shaming' Oval Curator During India-England 5th Test
Former India player and ex-coach of the national cricket team, Sanjay Bangar, has sparked controversy with his comment on-air during the India vs England fifth Test at The Oval, London. The remark from Bangar came on Day 3 of the match. During commentary, the former India all-rounder fat shamed Oval curator while discussing how the appearance of the pitch changed on the third day of the game. The pitch looked extremely green for the first two days due to the grass on it and that saw the fast bowlers having a lot of fun. A total of 21 wickets fell in the first two days. However, on the third day, the pitch got a bit brownish as a lot of grass disappeared from the surface. While giving the reason behind it, Bangar stated that it was due to the heavy roller that was being used. This is when he made the controversial remark. "That indeed is a very heavy roller, I must say. Not necessarily for the weight of the roller, but also the weight of the groundsman sitting on it," Bangar said on Star Sports, as quoted by Times Now. The ex-India player was blasted on social media for his remark. Check out some of the reactions here - Doesn't make a difference if u are a manjrekar or A bangar.. Sanjay s on jio hotstar are terrible... #ENGvIND #ENGvsIND #INDvsENG — Ankit Shah (@ankitshah1091) August 2, 2025 Dear Sanjay Bangar, Please refrain from bashing the groundsman, Lee Fortis. Commenting on someone's weight, especially in a public broadcast, is uncalled for. As a commentator, it's imp to maintain respect and dignity in your remarks. Let's keep the focus on the game. #INDvENG — Ashok Vihari (@Gubbinsolo) August 2, 2025 Bangar on Day 3 also lavished praise on pacer Akash Deep's fluent batting effort in India's second innings that provided a vital boost to the visiting side in the fifth Test. Akash, who batted at number 4 as a nightwatchman played a memorable knock of 66 runs, laced with 12 fours and was involved in a 107-run third-wicket partnership with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The duo not only rescued India's innings but also set the platform for the batters to come. "Akash Deep took his chances early on against Bethell in the very first over, but after that, he was very, very thoughtful. He played like a proper batsman; he is capable of batting, and he was the one who saved India from a follow-on in the Brisbane Test match. He showed a lot of heart and wasn't afraid of the short ball. "He took his chances when the field was up, defended when the field was back, and ran really well between the wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal's contribution was also immense in that partnership, as he made sure Akash Deep stayed in the zone and helped him stitch that partnership together," Bangar said on JioHotstar.

KL Rahul Goes Past Virat Kohli In Elite List, Eyes Rahul Dravid's Record Next
Last Updated: KL Rahul has gone past Virat Kohli with 26 catches in England. Star India batter KL Rahul on Sunday went past ace batter Virat Kohli in the list of Indians with the most catches in England. The former has been a special cricketer with the bat for the Indian team on the tour. Rahul has also been a reliable asset in the slips. Rahul has looked like the most sound cricketer and has played a big role in giving the Indian team solid starts in most innings. England have been tasked with chasing down 374 runs in the fourth innings of the game. Much to the delight of captain Shubman Gill, the fans and the Indian team management, Prasidh Krishna produced the ball that resulted in the wicket of Ben Duckett. Rahul now has 26 catches in England, one more than Kohli. Former India head coach Rahul Dravid has 30, while Sunil Gavaskar leads the list with 35. It was a full ball outside the off stump, at which Duckett threw his bat in an attempt to drive away from the body. All he got was an outside edge that Rahul took in second slip. Meanwhile, star India pacer Mohammed Siraj bowled another lion-hearted eight-over spell as India took two wickets to leave England on 164/3 at lunch on the fourth day of the final Test in London on Sunday, August 3. Chasing a record 374, England still need 210 runs for the series-sealing victory over India, while the visitors would back themselves to bowl the hosts on a challenging track and level the series. Having dismissed Zak Crawley on the last delivery of the third day, Siraj began the proceedings alongside Akash Deep. Like the first innings, Siraj put his hand up and produced a fiery spell where he troubled Duckett and Ollie Pope. However, it was Krishna who provided the opening breakthrough of the day when he drew Duckett into the drive and had him caught at second slip on what was his fourth delivery of the morning. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
