Flau'Jae Johnson puts rap and podcasting careers aside during March Madness
SPOKANE, Wash. — For now, LSU star guard Flau'Jae Johnson is putting her rap career aside. And the podcasting, too.
Johnson is all about the NCAA Tournament, and helping the Tigers win another national title.
'I'm not focused on my music, I'm not focused on my podcast, I'm not focused on none of (that) stuff. I'm focused on winning the national championship,' Johnson said. 'Because if I won the national championship, then I can focus on everything I want to.'
That doesn't mean that Johnson's off-court talents aren't on display during March Madness. She raps on a Powerade ad campaign that has been shown often throughout the tournament.
Johnson has been a music star since appearing on 'America's Got Talent' in 2018 when she advanced to the quarterfinals of the television competition.
She released her first album, 'Best of Both Worlds,' last year. She's also collaborated on a song with rapper Lil Wayne.
Johnson has said that she launched her music career in honor of her father, the late rapper Camoflauge.
Johnson also has a podcast, also called 'Best of Both Worlds,' where she interviews some of the biggest stars of the game — including episodes with USC's JuJu Watkins and UConn's Paige Bueckers — and just generally dishes on a range of topics from basketball to boyfriends.
Johnson and the Tigers got past N.C. State 80-73 to advance to the Elite Eight for the third consecutive year, facing top-seeded UCLA on Sunday.
The teams met in last year's NCAA Tournament, where Bruins head coach Cori Close watched first-hand as Johnson went 7 for 11 from the field and dropped a 24-point, 12-rebound double-double.
While Close respects the guard's ability with a basketball, she's also complimented what Johnson's brand does for the sport.
'Talk about someone who's been great for the game. I just really admire how she's juggled all the different things that she does in life, let alone on the court,' Close said. 'I'm a big pioneer — try to be, of growing the game, and I look to her. She's doing a great job, and I just want to compliment her for that, our game is better off for it.'
Johnson has said she's unperturbed by pressure situations, drawing back to her days on 'America's Got Talent.'

Study shows less online abuse of athletes during March Madness
June 11 - The NCAA recently released a study that indicated a decrease in social media abuse targeting student-athletes, including from sports bettors, during March Madness. According to the study, athletes were targeted in 15 percent of March Madness-related abusive posts and comments flagged by data science firm Signify Group during the 2025 men's and women's tournaments. That was a significant drop from the previous year's tournaments, when 42 percent of March Madness-spawned abusive posts and comments were directed at student-athletes. Per the NCAA's report, Signify Group gleaned this year's data by using its "Threat Matrix" technology to monitor the social-media accounts of 2,042 players, 346 coaches, 136 teams and 269 game officials and selection committee members. More than 1 million posts and comments directed at these groups on X, TikTok and Instagram were logged and analyzed by Signify's artificial intelligence. That led to 54,096 posts and comments being flagged for potential abuse or threat. Of those, Signify's human analysts confirmed 3,161 as "abusive or threatening." Signify investigated 103 social media accounts for their malicious activity and referred 10 of them to law enforcement. "By supporting the NCAA in demonstrating that abusers can be identified and will be reported to law enforcement -- where criminal thresholds are broken -- it is possible to see a deterrent effect in play," Jonathan Hirshler, Signify Group's CEO, said in a statement. Other findings from the study: Abuse stemming from sports bettors decreased by 23 percent, all abuse directed at those on the women's March Madness side dropped approximately 83 percent and all abuse directed at those on the men's side increased by 140 percent. While the 140 percent increase in men's tournament total abuse and the significant drop in abuse directed at student-athletes overall might not appear to jibe, the difference is in the sharp increase of this year's abuse being directed at adults -- such as coaches and the NCAA Tournament selection committee chaired by North Carolina athletic director Bubba Cunningham. --Field Level Media

Rory McIlroy snubbed by Amanda Balionis in surprise US Open prediction
Rory McIlroy will be on the hunt for more major success at the US Open this week but CBS star Amanda Balionis has made a surprise tip to find glory in Pennsylvania Amanda Balionis has tipped Sam Burns for success in the US Open later this week, even with competition to come from the likes of Scott Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. The CBS Sports reporter has been said to have a close relationship with McIlroy but it did not prevent her from looking elsewhere for a shout at who could earn glory. And it is Burns who has received her backing following his tense play-off defeat at the Canadian Open on Sunday. The 28-year-old American put in a stunning final round to record an eight-under-par 62 before New Zealand's Ryan Fox matched his 18-under-par score to force a play-off. It took a further four holes to separate the pair with Fox earning a birdie to secure victory. But the outing still shows that Burns is ready to be competitive. At least, CBS star Balionis was convinced enough by his performance. Burns, ranked 22nd in the world, made seven consecutive cuts and finished in the top five twice in the run up to making the trip to Oakmont Country Club. "Fox will tell you it took him longer than expected to settle in here on the PGA Tour, but after a dramatic win a month ago, the Kiwi is playing free and is now a multiple-time winner," said Balionis after Fox's win in Canada. "Sam Burns is playing out of his mind right now. Once again, the LSU talent put himself in the mix, and if I'm you, I'm snagging him early for any US Open pools you might be in." Despite Balionis' faith, Burns has often failed to show his best in major competitions in his career. The Canada Open runner-up has managed just one top-10 finish in 20 majors and tied ninth at last year's US Open at Pinehurst No.2. McIlroy meanwhile has his own issues despite banishing his Grand Slam demons. A change of driver has caused some issues for the 36-year-old, who missed the cut at the Canadian Open. Balionis will not be working in Pennsylvania to see whether her tip pays off. Instead NBC will be in charge of the broadcast for the third major tournament of the year. The 38-year-old reporter is scheduled to return to action the following week at TPC River Highlands for the Travelers Championship in Connecticut. Signing off from her time in Toronto, Balionis said: "We had The Rink, we had the cutest kids visit us on set, we had the New Zealand national football team living and dying by every Ryan Fox shot. "We had an incredible national open. It's time for a week off. In my best Mike Wilbon voice, 'Goodnight Canada!'".

But others joked that Johnson let the side down in what were otherwise classy pics by parading his hairy torso. The LIV star, 40, is back at Oakmont Country Club this week for the first time since he won the US Open in 2016. And mischievous fans hope he will be better 'suited' to the greens than he was to dressing elegantly. Actress Gretzky, who married DJ in 2022, dazzled as she pouted in the pics with the two-time Major winner. The 36-year-old lay across Johnson in one photo as he sat on a white couch. And she cosied up to him as they hugged in another snap. Gretzky's contented expression in both pics mirrored her accompanying words when she shared them on social media. 8 Gretzky wed Dustin Johnson in 2022 and they have two kids Credit: Getty "Nobody else," she wrote. Paulina Gretzky trolls Dustin Johnson's basketball skills as couple shoot hoops at their multi-million dollar mansion One responded: "Haha DJs face makes these pictures so good!" Another amused observer said: "He definitely looks thrilled to be doing this!" Most fans, however, adored the photos without question. One said: "These are the BEST pics!" and another added: "DJ is a very lucky man!!" That just left the thorny issue of Johnson's unbuttoned suit top... One fan claimed: "The chest hair undershirt was a wild choice." And another wrote: "Love them - but urgh….at least wear a white T-shirt under that jacket dude." But as the former world no.1 attempts to overcome his patchy recent form with US Open silverware, perhaps he's hoping it's a case of "hair today, gong tomorrow"!
